Title: Which watches will survice in Mars????
Post by: siodee on August 23, 2011, 02:09:48 PM
Since we have a lot of expert here, just some thoughts for contribution

Condition in Mars

- Mars is only 10% the mass of Earth, mean If you weighed 100 kg on Earth, you would weigh 38 kg on Mars
- Mars is only 38% the gravity on Earth
- Temperatures on Mars can dip down to -87 degrees C
- Atmosphere of Mars is less than 1% the thickness of Earth’s atmosphere
- Mars' atmosphere made up of 95% carbon dioxide

With all these conditions, which watches you think will be reasonable chance to survive in Mars, and why???

Who knows? Nasa might use our survey to select the watches for Mars exploration... :Laughing_on_floor:

there are blueprints of the purported update to the x-33 surfacing around the net.

also japanese newspaper interviews with urquhart saying that they are collaborating with NASA in the developent of the updates but that was back in 2007. who knows..maybe scrapped or still under wraps?

At subzero temperature, I believe all battery powered watch will be knock flat the moment they hit the surface unless they are insulated.

Dont think can survive, due to temperature as SShark pointed put...

As for the moon dust watch, I guess it only help to transfer the dust from Moon to Mars  :Laughing_on_floor:

this is the only 'watch' or clock that will survive the Mars, only minor adjustment needs to be done to tell Mars time (Mars day is 2.7% longer than Earth day)

US Military watch standard-MIL-PRF-46374G certified piece , should be able to survive in few hours time on Mars.

-87 degrees is the killer. Even a Gshock can't operate at that temperature.

Omega Speedmaster Pro (Alaska Project with the aluminium casing put on  )

(quote: the case "shield" offers temperature resistance up to 260 degrees Celsius and down to -148 degrees Celsius. Aluminum apparently has a high thermal retention)
