Any shop names? Not very familiar with those locations.
-
Forum rules not allowed to discuss any shop or AD name.
-
Mind to pm me the names...coming back for a short holiday in Msia and considering to lap foh...kakakakak.
-
if someone got some names, PM me too. or better still, be my guide..
actually, like in other posts, you won't have to post a full name. members can just put the first letter and dashes after that. it's important for visitors like us to have addresses so we can find places.
-
Kam Long and dpkong sounds like me :D
My guide was dc and met rusminag at the time (stumbled on them in the shop), shop was in summit
Came back 2 weeks, straight 1 watch hahah
Enjoy the hunt

Hi! Can please pm me all the shops please? Looking for rolex. Hoping to enjoy my long weekend watch shopping. :)
-
Can anyone tell me if they have dealt with any of the pre-owned shops in kl? Can be trusted? Worried about fakes since paying high prices.
-
out of the 3 i visited, i haven't seen any pre-owned shop there that can compare in terms of stock to the one in Kuching. maybe there are others with more availability which i didn't get to visit.
however, the owner in USJ Summit is very knowledgeable and I'm sure he would not sell you a fake as real.
prices are a little high for all the shops i went to but i believe that's where your negotiating skills come in.
-
agreed with dpkong. However, pre-owned shops in KL carry more Panerai than the one in mentioned by dpkong. As for fake watches, always ask for a fullset i.e: box and papers. Also buy from a reputable shop, not some dodgy, dingy shop in some backlanes.

box and papers cannot really guarantee a new watch. some fakes out there are really good and come with B&P too.

few months back i went to kuching my friend brought me to a plaza which is quite old where the only AD used to sell at the outlet. few steps away there was a grey seller...r we talking the same shop? is it reputated?
btw from my experience i saw more than 20 models on the display.
-
That's correct. I believe the shop is ok

very reputable. most of my watches are bought from there and i have sent them to the AD or service centre in Singapore to get them verified or serviced and they pass 100% everytime. I believe there is a photo of this shop when our mod chrisyen was in kuching and i introduced this shop to him.

Yes, that's true.
I have seen fake "Loleks" with B&P also. The papers - how can you be sure the papers are real unless you bring them to an AD to verify. These fakes are AAA grade. Engine is from Swiss but not from "Loleks" factory.
-
for newer warranty card...you should see the following:

Still box and papers is the first step. Would you rather buy a pre-owned watch with no box and papers or one with box and papers from a pre-owned dealer you've not patronised before? If we'd go the full length to get the AD to verify the watch, then DONT buy from pre-owned shop and buy straight from AD. You'd save on verification fees plus you know the source is legitimate. The main advice in buying pre-owned is to buy the seller. If you cant trust the seller then dont bother to buy from pre-owned dealers. Just go to the AD, pay a few hundred more for peace of mind.

can we have a better resolution of the second picture? is that a hologram on the watch itself??
-
for rolex, look for the watermark crown at 6 o'clock. The fakes are not clear and poorly done. The originals are very clearly defined.

that only applies to watches after 2002 or thereabouts. i thought the 2nd picture above had something other than the LEC?

sorry taken from forum. just to give others an idea about warranty card.
like g.mac had said buy the seller. i buy from AD because it gives me peaceful mind and good term in paying like credit card installment without any additional charges.

Don't be so "blue" Hoegaarden. A drink or two will keep the blues away.
Neway, was at Summit with DC today. A good pre-loved shops and a knowledgable seller.
Do give DC a PM, the "white coffee" is sure worth it!
-
the Kuching shop as mention by Gmac is selling genuine watches
no point selling fake since not many competition there
this shop can growth well with the repo
Kuching is not a small town
In KL is different senario, many pre own targetting different customer
CM shop aiming at tourist, so price for mat Salleh but plenty of watches from vintage to new, seiko orient to omega n rolex...
Berjaya shops are those who started by their nature of 'business', so it is coincidentally... Not sure u guys understand what I meant... (Can share if u buy me a gd coffee) so the source of the watch is, err... Check their diamonds as well... Price depend on who u r to them n the boss mood!!!
The 2 shops is Subang usj
the one in shop - a watchmaker himself, great knowledge no doubt, but he keep his watches in safe so difficult to choose watches there... The boss is Chiak bao mai bao!!! Sunday close! Not easy to deal with, once an pre owned piece he claim new... Aih...
the one in shopping mall u guys use to go - yeap very knowledgeble in rolex... But most of the time talk about Market then the watches, from property to gold to macro... Started selling lower end watches in sg way, not really into watchmaking, change battery mayb! U guys there everyweekend shd know, u nvr see him actually repairing watches right? keep talking, bring u to kopitiam mayb.... It's ok, Just like the one advertise in paper every day claiming they r specialist, but in the end all watched sub out to real watchmaker... Good place for rolex, genuine n gd condition! Others... I hv bad experiences some hv gd one...
The one in bangsar village... From Singapore leh, so Singapore price.., but it's gd to sell it at Singapore price right? Some watches is rare brand in msia can hv it's Market in spore!!!
Coming big is the one in pj cheras kepong... Boss is knowledgeable but not his brother... So better call the boss before u go to get the price... Good Place for rolex n plenty of beg... Lol!!!
Almost forgot the other big shot in Bangsar n sg Wang... A place for New pams n new rolex...
Gd service especially in Bangsar bcoz it is in Bangsar!!!
Another newbie in Amcorp... Boss is a old time trader... Watches from Hk n Taiwan... Lot of genuine grey selling at bargain, dum worry, legal source... Jus some brand producing too many till the shop can't keep too much so it has to go lower through different way to reflect it's real Market value!!!
Above r all my personal opinion... Through my personal n frens experience
-
Miss one - ampang point !!! Shop owned by a watchmaker n a watch lover + watchseller!!!
Targetting mid sector, so gd place for gshock, oris, tag, ball... Watches turn over super fast especially those higher end stuff... If 1 week not move, u can c it pop up in another pre own shop at higher price.... Xbay, xudah old timer as well...
Aaaa, another half shop at ss2, not many watches... Gd service, gd sales talk as well...
In the end, I will say it's depend on what r u looking for, different shop different Market...

well.. it doesn't matter very much whether you personally like the shops or not. it would always be interesting to see what is available. the rest is up to the buyer and seller. like a tour guide, you cannot be faulted if a deal turns bad,

David,
Great list you got there!
Just to add a couple more: BSC, Sg Wang (sister branch). BTW, there are quite a few shops in Amcorp, 4 if I remember correctly on different levels :)
The million question is, who can offer the best bang for the buck? ;)
-

dpkong is correct.
I believe people like Chris & David can act as "tour guide" to all things related to watches in Klang valley, what with their geographical knowledge. The rest is up to us, the buyer and the seller (the shops) whether we agree to a deal or not.

How about the flea market in amcorp mall? Heard that there are a few pre-owned each sellers there. Not sure if what they mean is the existing shop owners or other people who open just for the flea market. Anyone have any ideas?

Amcorp flea Market watch seller
type 1 - collector turn seller n repairer... Ppl trying to sell those watches in their collection that lost the love....
Type 2 - vintage stuff seller who travel everywhere to buy, dig... To source for everything to sell
I used to go there... Seldom go now
1. Many vintage watch collector gather every week, they r very close with seller, so any gd piece those collector will hv the 1st hand view
2. Price is high now... No different from buying from shop... But shop provide longer warranty n won't run away easily
3. Not many watch in gd condition...
-
Great! Thanks! Will stick to shops then.
Definitely need to go to the Kuching shop to have a look one day. After I save enough to pick up something.. :P

Chris is right in describing the flea market operator selling watches.
Apart from these "part-timer", there are 4 or 5 shops selling pre-owned watches located at different floors in Amcorp Mall. Some of these shops also do repairs and some do sell other accessories like straps and bracelets.
(Note : Can't name the shops as forum Rules dictate otherwise)

Thanks! Will go have a look one of these days. Need to get myself acquainted with the KL pre owned market. Only worry is that I will end up picking up something along the way.. :-\ sometimes you just can't resist..
-
Just saw an advert today for this shop, [Commercial site link not allowed - MOD]
Anyone been there before? Their website is useless. They claim to have Rolex and tudor pre-owned.
-
Oops.. sorry, forgot about that.
-
Just want to share my bad experience of the shop on Amcorp 2nd Flr.
Asked about the difference in the case back of a vintage watch as compared to pictures researched on the net, the owner was arrogant and rude. The caseback looked very new for a watch made in 1970 so it was a valid question.
Quote: "Of course its genuine. Anyway its only RM 2,000 not RM 20,000. If its sent to the AD and they say it's not genuine, I'll pay you back."
He had the tone, look & attitude of a person who was condescending and gave the impression that his time wasn't worth discussing a 'cheap' watch. He was however most attentive to a customer who was there to collect a Moonwatch… as if that's a high priced watch..His shop sells 90% Rollies and Pams…guess that's all the watches he knows about.
What has RM 2,000 got to do with RM 20,000. So does he means that if its RM 20,000 and its not genuine, he won't or isn't able to refund ?
Wonder which school he went to..
Sure as hell I'm never going to step into that shop again and I'll definitely warn all my WIS friends as well. I'm really pissed.

one of the mods will likely come along and delete your link... however, you have interesting pieces but your Rolex asking prices a little on the high side.

Anyone kind enough to PM me the locations for the recommended preowned shops in KL? I'm looking for either a submariner, GMT or an aquatimer to add to my current collection...cheers guys! :)

A rough direction to ck77 post :
Central market - there is one on the ground floor and another on the 1st floor
Times square - (this I am not sure as I have not been to the pre-owned shops here)
Kota raya complex - be vigilante a bit and you can find a couple of shops on different floors
Bangsar village - there is about 3 shops there plus one or two shops selling new watches too
Subang jaya ss15 - (not sure where)
Ampcorp mall - there are 4 or 5 shops located on different levels in Amcorp mall.
Summit - USJ - 3 shops located on ground (1) and first floors (2),
-
Speaking for myself and maybe for others as well..
For folks not from KL, trying to find the above locations is hard enough, much less getting to the shop. I did manage to get to see one shop in Summit USJ (interesting place) and one in Times Square on the very high floors (don't bother, little choice and poor salesman attitude).
I fail to understand the rationale for not allowing posts with shop details or contact numbers but then I don't have a say in that.
I think for anyone not from KL, the best bet is to find someone who knows all these places and willing to guide you there. Or if you have a lot of time to wander around floor to floor of each complex to find it, hopefully, before losing your patience or losing your stamina. And at the same time, pray that it's not closed when you finally find it.
To be honest, I gave up looking in KL due to lack of information and had a family tagging along which made mobility restricted.

even for a KL-lite, I got lost going to the H4U event recently, despite M. Nazri's excellent maps and directions, simply cos I haven't driven to KL in ages. Also, many of the pre-owned places listed are on the outskirts of KL, so yeah, I also fail to understand why detailed directions are not allowed... :(

If u look at the greater KL plan
All listed are in KL
Where is outskirts?
20km - 40km from center of greater KL?
Where is centre? Malaysia most famous map maker mr ho chin soon lately moved the centre to somewhere near kinrara Bkt jalil
Bcoz the greater KL is moving south
Due to putrajaya cyberjaya n KLIA
Now the next 10 yrs focus is at semenyih
20-30km from that centre is outskirts
-
I will not recommend
-
To-date I'm always shocked at the high asking prices of pre-owned watches at these pre-owned shops in KL.
Even when I was Ameyoko area in Ueno, Tokyo..there were a few shops with fantastic choices but crazy pricing...
I've given up getting a fair deal from pre-owned..was told that watch prices drop higher in US and Australia so it may be a better proposition...
-
dpkong, when did u visit KL? since kenot meet up in kuching that day maybe can meet in KL haha
cheers
Bro. dpkong was in KL sometime back.
I remember meeting him over at the Summit last year at one of the "mini Gtg" where another member, Bro. David brought all of us to see the few pre-owned shops there.
-
dpkong - no worries...lemme know in advance so i can get 'passport' ya...unless day time haha
btw, this may be a bit out of topic (regarding new watches), I was walking for the first time in Haniffa (jalan Masjid area) earlier today and noticed the 2nd floor selling watches and jewelry...they had Seiko like pasar malam except in the glass display...they had like a few orange monsters and such placed side by side not even in proper stands/boxes.
Question is, anyone inspected if they are ori? I din really look at the price as there weren't any and the guy behind the counter tak layan at all.
Thanks
-
but we can still mention like this right? "there's this shop with abbreviation ABC at the ground floor of i.e summit mall near the atm machine..."
or cant we? ><
-
Not even abbreviation.

Well, those are the rules of the forum. We just have to abide to it. The whole reasoning behind the 'no name' policy i believe is that the forum does not want to bear any responsibility for promoting a particular shop and when things happened, the forum is liable for it. What would be a better solution is where the query is put out, that there is a prompt pm response from the mods who know and read the query? Just bear in mind that asking for the name of the shops and asking for discounts given by the shop is 2 different matters altogether. What the dealer will give to one is not the same as the other. It would depend on how many pieces one has bought to warrant that special treatment, how long they have been friends etc etc...so for questions on discounts, i dont think it is really appropriate.
-
Well said GMAC.

Yes, in all forums, the rules are set by the forum owner/moderators.
We, as members, should abide by them. If we do not agree or dislike the rules, IMO we shold go elsewhere and not start a "war" in the forum.
In MWF case, I concur with G.Mac's comments.
"The whole reasoning behind the 'no name' policy i believe is that the forum does not want to bear any responsibility for promoting a particular shop and when things happened, the forum is liable for it."
It will reflect badly on MWF if things do not go on as expected or not as expected by the members when dealing with the shop(s) mentioned in the forum. Hence no name (or even abbreviation) of the shop(s).
For members who wants to know the shop name, use other means like pm.

few months back i went to kuching my friend brought me to a plaza which is quite old where the only AD used to sell at the outlet. few steps away there was a grey seller...r we talking the same shop? is it reputated?
btw from my experience i saw more than 20 models on the display.
very reputable. most of my watches are bought from there and i have sent them to the AD or service centre in Singapore to get them verified or serviced and they pass 100% everytime. I believe there is a photo of this shop when our mod chrisyen was in kuching and i introduced this shop to him.
-
I am from kuching. Recently i am looking for rolex or panerai...i would like to know where can i get one with a good price and the most important is the seller is reputable and can guarantee the watches are all genuine..
-
there's a shop in Sarawak Plaza tucked in a corner. there's also another one near the open air market in town.
as you're from Kuching, PM me if you want a "guide" or mini-GTG.
-
there's also a shop in the Tabuan Jaya commercial centre near to the supermarket but i've never bought from there before.
-
dpkong,thanks for your information.
Have you buy any watch at sarawak plaza before? Is the seller reliable?
-
yes, have bought a few from them before. as G-MAC has concurred, the seller is reputable. but you need to be really comfortable of course.
-
Rolex and Pam in Kuching, have to go to the shop in Sarawak Plaza. He is my go-to guy for watches. Some of his stock will astound you from time to time. He is very reliable although I suggest you do your homework first before committing to a big purchase. This is so that you get a good buy. The one near the open air market is his dad's shop i think.
-
Any "Taiko" there got nice lubang also PM me which shop.
Girls lubang also welcome...hehehe

went for a visit at sarawak plaza...seriously considering on some of the used rolex and panerai...
-
A friend of my also went to sarawak plaza after i told him the shop.He was attracted by an used rolex, however, the watch does not come with box and papers. He is asking whether it is okay to buy such kind of watch? How can he check for authenticity of the watch and does the seller willing to open the caseback for checking during the purchasing?
-
As with buying anything, the only advice I can give is "are you comfortable with the seller and his goods?"
I've bought pieces without BnP before from there and have no problems. I don't guarantee you will or won't. Do your homework and ask all questions and hand over the cash if you are satisfied.
-
for me, i am quite comfortable with the watches there, so before make my decision for the purchase, i would like to gain some feedback from those who had bought from there before. i am sure the feedback from the members will help me a lot in the purchasing. Btw, do you bring your watches for checking the authenticity at the service centre or by any other watch expert?
-
Actually, I have never sent the watches I bought there to another watchmaker to check. But the way I look at it is..
1. he gives you a sale receipt showing the watch model and serial number.
2. he also gives a 2 year warranty for his watches, stated on the receipt.
3. he and his father's shop has been in business for decades with a very large customer base.
I don't think it would be in his best interest to sell fakes. In a small town like Kuching, he and his business would be very short-lived if he tried to do that.
However, condition of watches is another matter. Some could be over-polished and not obvious to the trained eye. His father services Rolex for most of his life but whether he has access to genuine parts, I wouldn't know. I have not had to service a watch yet but if I do, I'd probably send it to the RSC in KL.

Been to the shop in Sarawak plaza and agree what's sad by dpkong..
Do your own homework on any desired pieces and ask all questions u think appropriate before committing

When Bro. dpkong mentioned do your homework, it includes checking the serial no. and compared it with the list of Rolex watches manufactured with the serial no. to see if it matches the timeline.
As for the inside parts of the Rolex watches, it would be another matter. For the untrained eyes, it may look to be original parts, but nobody knows, right? Anyway, like most of the MWF members will advise, "Buy the Seller first". Satisfy yourself by asking all questions that you have doubts about. Once you are truly satisfied then only you proceed to get your dream watch.
-
Test the seller first. Tell him that you are just looking, ask some basic questions and see if he can answer at length, passionately and patiently.

i find that for most sellers, they won't spend a lot of time with you if they are told you are "just looking". you need to specify that you are looking "to buy" and not looking as in "window shopping".
answering passionately about watches will only come from WIS and not watch traders which most sellers with a shopfront to maintain are.

Anyone have any experience with the shop in low yat plaza?
I have been there, but did not purchase anything. The owner is friendly enough, and is willing to engage with customers.
However, there's not much choice on offer (at least when I was there). Don't bother to call his handphone or send him any sms inquiring on watches that interest you (if you are responding to his adverts in Mudah, for instance) coz he never take the call nor reply the sms going by my experience. Better to drop by in person.
-
What I despised most is when the watch is taken off the market only to reappear again but in a much higher pricing. Not that nice ler.. ;D

Anyone have any experience with the shop in low yat plaza?
Went looking for it once. Very few watches and no one was in when I got there, or was out on a toilet break.
-
I think he open a new shop at time square. Most of the stocks now over there...
-
anyone have idea on the authenticity of the watches?

His asking prices are around market price. But I'm certain no one here is willing to vouch for the authenticity of any seller's goods. Who wants to be blamed (or worse still, sued!) if you happened to buy a fake or franken watch?
-
for the benefit of those looking to buy, i went to the shop yesterday. i saw a m series submariner without any papers so i was a bit hesitant. in the end the staff followed me to menara dion and we had the watch authenticated.

That happened to me yesterday morning, for the second time this month. If it is a website listing I cache the page as it was and then as it is following the 'sale' and relisting. If one day we can name and shame them then at least I have the records. In both cases the website changes were very naive.
In the first case as soon as my wife phoned the watch was 'sold' but an identical one was available and they would send an email. The email never arrived and nor was my PM from this site answered, but their website immediately showed the same link to the same watch but at a RM1,000 price increase.
The next tine I had reserved two watches the previous evening, then when the foreigner turned up at opening time the watches were 'sold'.
Half an hour later I received an SMS as they had found similar models to sell me at a good price. No thanks; always buy the seller first etc.
I have two trusted sellers in KL and I'm now very wary of buying from anyone else.

Where's the location of the dealer who did this?
I'm sure you cannot post shop names but maybe a location is enough for us to know who you're talking about. The locations of the other 2 good dealers would be helpful as well.
-
That is outside of the rules of the forum. Rather than risk making all dealers in an area appear to be bad, even if I don't know of their existence, it would be better if dealers listing on MWF were rated by those dealing with them.
Both dealers above use MWF, but were contacted outside of the forum via other sites.
For positive experiences, where listed on MWF, I leave feedback in the relevant area.
