Any thoughts for upcoming GTG in Q3 before heading to the Grand GTG in Q4, any suggestion? or theme for the GTG?
-
Anyone can organize a GTG.
Not just the mods.
-
Anybody got Raya open house? Mine will be in Nilai. Will post the details later.

Bro Rusminag, are we all invited? ;D
-
Long holidays are around the corner.
For those who are in town, its a good idea to get together for a yam cha session.
With fewer traffics around the Klang valley (Raya), its easier to drive around town, what say you?
dc
-
Someone take the lead this round besides the mods :P
-
yeah someone with contacts and experience please take the initiate a cannon tour to danuk... :Laughing_on_floor:
-
I think this round, we no need to fix the place, if our Malay members here have the open house, then if we are invited, we just fix the time and hop by together to have a small GTG...makan sambil cakap cakap.. ;D
Selamat berbuka Puasa kepada Ahli ahli members MWF, maaf Zahir dan Batin

Thanks for the thought. Can ikan bilis without grail attend the open house or not?

As mentioned earlier, Raya is just round the corner.
For those members who are in town and some new comers, shall I suggest a mini gtg at the Summit - USJ.
We can get to 'yam cha' (coffee session) and gets to look-see some pre-owned watches there after....
If you're are game, the suggested time and date will be between 27/8/2011 & 28/8/2011 or 31/8/2011 & 1/9/2011 or 3/9/2011 & 4/9/2011. (Friday 2/9/2011 is my working day).
For those interested, please pm to suggest date & time and I will put forward the best possible date to accomodate to all.
dc
-
would not be in town from 30 aug - 1 sept and work on 28 aug and 2 sept.
best for me is weekends.
-
DC, I am not in town on 28th-30th, what is the proposed date?
Still waiting for Rusminag open house party ;D
-
Well, looks like the favorable date is before the raya (27/8/11 - Sat) or after the raya (3/9/11 - Sat) to accomodate all interesting party.
Give me a few more days to fix the date....awaiting PM and suggestion.

DC and all sifus.
may I ask if there are any watch repair place in summit? if there are then I would like to join this upcoming gathering.
My father just gave me his old Longines, its been dead for over 15 years.... I'm wondering if I could find someone to revive it.

My Raya open house most probably on the 17th of Sep. Will post updates and details later.
-
siodee - Ok, I shall be hearing from you.
genec. - I am not too sure this shop at the summit accept your old longiness for repairs, for he mostly do rolexes. (confirmed with the owner, his shop opens on 31/8 - Wed)
And there is another shop at the same complex that does repairs on old omegas and clock works Maybe we should try him out. (Not too sure this particular shop open on raya day)
But if we meet up, I may guide you to another repair sifu who does repair on watches like yours. Again it up to him to accept this repair works.

wow... looking to become quite a crowd. going to be interesting to see you all there. don't forget to bring all your watches along!! i believe that since this will be in a Rolex shop, we could be there a very LONG time.. ;D ;D so late-comers should still find us there.
as a side note, if first day of Raya falls on 31st, i would be in Klang (obligatory visit) in the morning but should be back before 2pm to catch you all.
any place for  in that complex??

Hello David,
I have an old Titoni watch which needs repairing. Does the repair sifu repairs on other brands (not expensive brands) as well?
If he does, I will bring it along for the mini Gtg.
-
He is also a Titoni lover, I guess he can check out if I am no mistaken
-
Watchnewby
(Chang)
Do bring along your old Titoni and let the shop evaluate. To repair or not is his prerogative.
A word of caution, he may sublet his repairs to others (other than rollie)
- see you tonight for a game / stroking of Table tennis
Received PM from dpkong / Chin / afd / Eugene...thanks

rolex is the easiest to repair watch...
because it is common, gear and wheel is big, simple ( no complication ), steel is easy to polish ( not hard )
on top of that rolex is expensive so can charge more....
so which watchmaker so choosy (smart) @ DavidCheong?
titoni is using ETA movement... if he/she cant repair then the watchmaker either lousy or choosy (bcoz he cant charge mo)

a watchmaker who makan gaji will repair what ever u throw to them unless they can't do it or no parts available
but a businessman / the shop owner will reject if profit margin low
look at the 'everyday advertised in paper watchservice center' the shop keepers in branches normally know nothing bout watches. His job is receive n throw to those worked for them (freelance). That's y he won't quote u straight all the time. He will even charge u for quotation. Bcoz the shop need to pay for transporting the watch to watchmaker(3rd party)
pls, Im not close to Jacob n co big diamond ring owner, so no c4 here. I Jus curious y a watchmaker will reject a titoni watch power by eta movement?
So i guess
1. The business man who use to do big business, he dunno how to charge for servicing a titoni watch bcoz the watch is not expensive, jus service he can only charge rm150-250. But for him to make arrangement, call + despatch 2 ways... Not worth!
If it is a rolex watch, same arrangement, his freelance watchmaker will charge him the same as servicing an eta movement... But he can charge much higher!!!
That's my guess... Jus A guess... I can b very wrong...
If u hv the facts n want to correct me pls do so... Tats Mwf spirit, sharing the experience, knowledge, news....
@dc - pls share with us since u know the shop better
-
Thanks siodee and david.
Per david's comment on the watch repairer's right to repair, I tend to agree with him.
Like what chrisyen mentioned on the business profitability or the choosy watch repairer, IMHO, the repairer is one smart fella. To be able to charge higher for repairing similar movement.
But, in this world, I believe it is a "seller-buyer" agreement that will see the transaction done. In saying so, I agreed with david that if the watch repairer agrees to repair & the owner is satisfied with the labour cost, then it is a "done-deal". Otherwise the watch owner has to look elsewhere or other repairs joint.
-
david is also a fren of mine! v use to yum cha in shamelin when he work there! where is the fire come from also i dunno...
yes we r human, v hv different view sometimes...
i hv bad experience with one shop, other may hv gd experience....
n i shd not bc body here.... n underestimate u all judgement.....

Now and recently, I joined watchnewby (Chang) for Table Tennis at the Puchong Jaya (opp the IOI Mall) on a Friday night...with a good rest the next day. Those who wanna join us, can PM Chang and myself for details

I quit table tennis when I'm 15yrs old when my coach been transfered to another school.
He is a great great coach, ex national player, chairman of ns pingpong association
i play badminton when I'm about 5ft2
now I'm 5ft 11.... The table is so low to me now!
-
Chrisyen
If you know...Thong Kee, the national player from the SEA games. He is as tall as you and has his advantage. He is the sole distributor for Butterfly merchandise at pertama complex.
All this while, I was playing with my coach, nickname 'quai-sow' aka sifu Tham, but has to quit as the services are no longer economical to continue for a one-to-one student pact.
Nowadays playing for sake of sweating purposes

Hi Chris,
I was like you before, very active in the list of sports you mentioned (basketball, badminton, squash, jogging, 10K Runs, mountain climbing etc) till I came down with injury. Then I took up golf for its "slow & steady" pace, but spend lotsa time like 1/2 day minimum.
So now I play table tennis 2 or 3 times a week, basketball once a forthnight, mountain/hill climbing (or jungle trekking) once a month and bowling twice every quarter.
Not forgetting Golf during Ramadhan month and CNY period. (coz' its cheap during Ramadhan months and as for CNY, many relatives are back in KL, hence can play in 3 flights)

that pre-owned place is great and the owner is well-versed in Rolex watches. sadly my Cantonese is really poor or else i would have picked up a lot more information.
here's the watch that David and I are seriously thinking over.. let's see who gets it eh? the blue Submariner is really calling to me though but i believe another forum member here has also seen it and is also considering it.

dpkong
sheet, I thought I have already forgotten the whole issue and now you posted the poison picture...very tempting indeed.
Nevertheless, my pleasure meeting new faces in person and again thanks to all the attendees who makes this gtg a success.

My Raya open house most probably on the 17th of Sep. Will post updates and details later.
Guys and gurls, with the UPSR just over for my son and our family trip to Gold Coast next week, regret to say that our Raya Open House may not materialise.... :'( :'(
Anyhow.. If we are going to do any GTG later, drinks(non-alcoholic) will be on me...
