Title: Polar Opposites
Post by: hanz079 on July 27, 2011, 04:26:37 PM
Yeah, I got quite alot of flak for buying two pieces of the same design with the only difference being the dial colour.
But WTH... another "logic goes out the window" type buy...
There's a long story on why I ended up with 2 of these... some of you knew the story behind it.
Well, no need for a long story, here are the pics...

very nice..btw, just would like to know something from members here..is there a 'signature' model for the Explorer II? I have some acquaintances who swore that they would not buy the black exp II as the white one is the 'signature' model..I have never heard of such thing before. I personally find that both has its own uniqueness.

All to do with advertising and perception. The white model is used more as it 'stands' out more as compared to the black model. Just like the GMT Master, the Pepsi is 'more' GMT Master than the coke or all black as is the gray dial Tudor Heritage Chrono is more 'correct' as all ads during the time shows the gray dial Tudor Chrono. People who buys the watch, be it the Explorer II or the Tudor will say that the white Explorer II is more correct is it is the signature watch as is the gray dial watch as they have never seen the black dial version. Same with the Tudor Snowflake, blue is in, and black is not.

Never know the Polar is the signature Exp2.
But I do heard some places especially in Hong Kong, people tends to avoid white dial Rolex.
To them white dial Rolex is 'pak lou' in Cantonese, meaning wasting effort.  :Laughing_on_floor:

Another BS as to "White" is the signature model for EXP2

the first explorer 2 1655 is BLACK and not white. so how did your friend conclude that white is "the signature colour for EXP2"?

I myself have no idea. Guess Hobbit explains it well. Thanks . The black explorer II as shown by terrence will always be known as the 'orange hand explorer II'.

Some people is so blessed lah, can have a full set of E2. Beautiful

Zitan you are correct! Blessed

Hanz: I don't know who dished you on buying tw of the same watches but I would do it too if fund permits! Really nice pair and the thought of your dad being a happy camper is "enough said"! I think someone here mentioned that history is made and is assc with the watch to produce that "sentimental" feel and I think this story is heartening

May you both enjoy and wear it in good health!

Blessed alright, but I need to "thank"  ::) Takashi to get me started coz the white one was the one he sold to me.
After that, there's no stopping liao...
But I must admit after letting go so many pieces to fund this 2, my life has become less colourful...  ;D
Now I am only left with a Damasko DC67, The Explorer 2 Black Dial and a Zenith EP HW and the Zenith is already put up for sale...

The right one is mine lah. The left one is 1655(aka steve mcqueen). Last time i checked, the model was auctioned at hkd200k by HK christie.
Yes, there were about 5 preowned luxury watch shops there. All major brands are there.
