Title: Online Purchase from .......
Post by: daleyusof on July 12, 2011, 01:06:54 PM
Fellow watch lovers,

Have any of you had any experience purchasing an Omega watch or any watch via online purchase from the internet? I am planning to buy my first Planet Ocean 42mm from [No mention of commercial site- Mod] for USD3,003 including shipping and insurance. How do is it tax and what is the steps like? Anyone?

I checked with the ADs here and the price is around RM13,000 with limited discount of 10% only.

Regards,
Dale

Always buy from a site you can trust, especially if it is an overseas website. Certain indicators like their profile, 'ebay power seller', feedback, awards and acceptance of Paypal are positive indicators it is a reliable e-seller.

In regards of tax, it depends on how it is shipped. I have purchased many items from US, Japan and UK before, watches included. If you shipped via courier like Fedex or DHL, you are 99% surely to be taxed. But I have escaped tax before because the seller declare it as 'Watch for repair'. Not sure if it still works now.

If you shipped via US Priority Mail or EMS, you may have chances to escape tax because Pos Malaysia checks at random. However, if you declare the item at RM 10,000, sure kena wann! If the seller declare the item less than RM 500 and as 'Gift'; you will not be taxed BUT that will limit your insurance to RM 500.

So, there's some risk involved before and after the buying process online.

Hope this helps and good luck with your purchase!

Hi, just wanted to highlight to you that you may want to continue shopping in KL first for prices. I just got the Planet Ocean with a AD in midvalley last week with a good discount..way above the standard 10% you mentioned.  Bought it for my wife four 16th wedding anniversary. If you are persistent, some of them may give you discount above the standard. This is the one that I got.

Watch in Malaysia is Tax Free.... Most people come to Malaysia because we are offering low if not the lowest price in the World.

Yeap Malaysia offer low price on watch coz no tax but for foreigner their money is higher than us.. so exchange rate for them is better so they find cheap here. Did try to get my favorite watch last week go that AD place and find out online more cheaper instead the promoter give only discount 10%. Did ask the promoter why price so high as Malaysia no tax on watches... he just smile and said here warranty 2 years and easy for you to send for repair and bla bla. So what the point of NO TAX !!!
