Title: Omega speedmaster
Post by: ballaviator on July 10, 2011, 09:32:22 PM
Hi guys,

finally saved up enough to purchase my next grail. Saw a used omega speedmaster today at amcorp mall.. Price around 3XXX without any box or crystals. I am still a noob in omegas, and did not dare to buy in fear of buying a fake item. Any forumers experienced such issues?

thanks

which calibre?

861? 1861/3? display caseback? solid? year? condition? all these contribute to the overall cost as well.

a relatively recent "modern" speedy cal 1861 with hesalite and solid caseback should not cost more than SGD 2.8K complete.

that is just the average dealer prices you can find on the internet.

from that price, i believe it is speedy reduced and not the full size manual wind moonwatch.

Buying pre-used in the untested market / environment esp. in the mall need a lot of guts. And you have to know your wares through out. My safe bet is to buy from a reputed dealer.

I agreed with ck, the watch in question would probably a speedy reduced. I have owned this model and quickly disposed it when I found out the cost of parts replacement - where it comes in a sets of gears instead of just replacement of just one piece..

my 2 cents

May be show us the picture of the Speedmaster that you have seen, perhaps easier for the Sifu to comment. If you mention Amcorp Mall, I remembered seeing some where that mentioned about the shop in Amcorp Mall...

Yeah, agree with Siodee. Please share with us the picture so we can comment more. A lot of Speedmaster in that era- eg. a Mark IV with a Lemania Calibre? I like vintage Omegas so may be able to comment. I have a yellow speedmaster in the 1980s with plastic crystal (http://www.malaysiawatchforum.com/index.php/topic,3399.0.html).
So yours can be an ori even without the sapphire crystal.
