Well, just want to relate my story! I had my name on the list for PAM 367 in HKG few months back but unexpectedly, they called me to collect the watch. Fortunately, I'm in Shenzhen and able to make the trip down to HKG yesterday to collect the watch.
While on the way back to China, I was stopped by the customs officer and told me that the watch cannot be brought in to China unless I pay 30% tax.
I almost head back to HKG at the very first impulse, but they offered to keep the watch in the customs (CNY8/day). Now, I've left the watch there under their safekeeping until I go collect it when I go to HKG next time.
Anyone have any kind of experience leaving their valuables at the customs so not to pay tax? I'm really worried that the watch might get stolen, worn or damaged, etc...?
-
Huh? Left the watch in the custody of custom? First time am hearing it.
Why can't bring in? Even for own collection?
-
Don't know what is the tax policy in China but here in Taiwan, if you buy a watch from overseas, and if it posted to you via mail (EMS or other services), there is no tax. However, if you FEDEX the watch, you have to pay tax. But since I am not local, the tax cert will be under my name and I can claim the tax when I leave the country (within 30 days of paying the tax). So far I just pay the tax (5%).
Have you declared the watch as your personal watch and will not be selling it? 30% is rather high.
-
I told them it's mine but they say as long as I intend to bring the "NEW" watch into China, I have to pay tax! So, what I'll do now is go back to the customs, collect the watch, goto hongkong and wear it back to china.
The triple boxes will be brought it separately by another friend.
What do you think?

Well, I have the bad experience with China custom at Da Lian where part of our goods are missing under their custody. I was like :Scolding:, we pay money and somemore the items are missing, not watch, but some small piece equipments, need to get the cert to clear it, so we decided to get the forwarder to move it to HK while going through paper work since the custom charge for storage by daily calculation.
Bro, better get it back. But why in the first place they know you wearing brand new PAM? I was surprise they can find out
-
No lah, it wasn't on my wrist. It was well packed in the box and paper bag and I have to put it thru the scan. The guy there then directed me to another room which is the custom office.

Sorry Bro, not try to scare you, but to me, something on my hand is better than leave it to others. You are talking about PAM here, I would rather get it back ASAP lor, better wear this time when go back to China, perhaps using different transport just to be sure not to get caught again. :Praying:

thanks!

Bro you scare me
If I am not mistaken didn't you wait a while to get this PAM?
Better get it back unless you have connections there (in customs i mean)
-
Going to HKG tomorrow to get my watch back!
-
All the best man, hope everything go well.
-
Yeah, all the Best and Good luck , and remember when you got it, just post the new baby here
-
Best of luck bro. Good advice from the folks here to get your watch asap. Shuda worn your watch and fold the boxes to keep separately among your clothes etc. Had similar experience here at Subang airport many years ago with high end hifi interconnects for a friend. As it was still in packaging the customs wanted to tax 30% (back in those days), so decided to keep it in their bonded store for reexport. Collected it on my next outbound trip and reimported it a few days later minus the packaging. The worrisome part was locating the item as the inventories are not stored properly and finding it took a while.
-
Thanks everyone!!! Will post some shots when I get the watch back!
-
Got my watch back in perfect condition!!!

Good for you. The nightmare over.

Thanks everyone again! Well, this watch doesn't give me the excitement seriously after all the hassle.
I put the name on the list few months back and didn't expect to get a call. Got the call, and such coincident I was here in Shenzhen, that's why bought it and at good price (HKG dollar is weak now).
Well, I was rushing to collect the watch as the boutique closes at 7pm. Called them at 6.30pm and told them that I will arrive very soon and please wait for a while. The respond I got in a cold manner, "Before 7pm is ok, but after 7pm we will not open the door for you!".
Well, in my heart, I know I will be there before 7pm but the reply was uncalled for. When I reach there, one of the guy (looks like the supervisor) was pulling a long long face and I was there sitting and waiting. Keep things short, the transaction takes around 30 mins, until 7.20pm with only few exchanges of conversation.
Walk out of the shop with the watch, don't feel any excitement at all. After that, I was like, why didn't I ask for that guy's name and ask him why is he pulling such a long face like that I owe him money!!!
Then at the customs, you guys know the story, so it's not very lucky with the watch... hehehehe!!! ;)
Will wear it for a while and see how it goes as I'm still waiting for the Shanghai 420 PIG edition.

Sadly I have to say that while I love the brand, the people at the boutiques are a real turn off. More so the people at the HK Boutique. I have never had a good experience at the boutique. Well I guess I am not one of their vip customer. I guess it does not really matter as I don't think I will be buying anymore Panerai watches, well new ones anyway.
-
Hi Ivan,
Nice assoulamente on the 367!
The boutique sales in HK must be good, and they just don't bother to treat those walk in or one time customers well. That's a real turn off, and for those who don't know the brand well, walking in to the boutique and get cold treatment is really crap imho.
It's a shame really!

wslee,
I am a big fan of Panerai. However I will not excuse poor customer service. You walk in, and the first thing they do is to size you up, try to look at what watch you have on your hands. First time I went there I had an Invicta on. They would not give me the time of day. Talk about poor customer service. Second time I was there, I was on my PAM0003B. The difference is like heaven and hell. Third time I was there, I had a Casio G-Shock. No one even bother to entertain me. And the place was empty with 2 sales person there.
Oh well. Their loss not mine.
