What are your take on watch winders?
Use them or dont?
Do you have so many auto watches and lazy to set them every time you pick them up after 1 month and reset the time and date?
I always pondered to buying at least a 1-3 watch winder but in order to get a good one cost a ton.
Sometimes i find that i am lazy to set the time and date again. And we all know bout the date change mechanism where if you change the date at the wrong time it might damage the watch.
Some watches like my Orient doesnt even let me wind through the crown and i have to wear it a while before setting the time.
Which brings me to think a manual wind time only watch is that much better, i have my phone to tell the date.
On the other hand there is this issue of accelerated wear since the watch is running all the time.
Well i dont have a winder now but i think when i buy a perpetual calender i might.

unless u like to change your automatic watch everyday then you might need that...
if dont, then no need and not recommended.... because watch is mechanical gadget, running mean gear and wheel moving.... so speed up the wear and tear....
for watch u dont use... it is better u wind it once a month... let the oil runs around.....
another thought is.... u like watches.... because it is mechanical gadget... u should enjoy winding it.......

Peter - IMHO. watch winder/s are but a novelty. when its new, you readily to use it, give every slight occasions. After some time, once it wears off, I would be too lazy to put the watches on the winder.
For me, i would just pick up the watch, adjust the time and will be on the go. (If it just for only 1-2 days usage) For a longer period, I shall reset the date. Because of the resetting situation, I still preferred non-date watch for weekend use.
Putting the watch on the winder - is like wearing the watch everyday and hence the wear and tear syndrome.
Yen - is correct to advise that - its ok to wind your watches once a month. Its actually fun doing so.

Very true.....like i said when the time comes that i need have a perpetual calender then it might be time to have a winder.
For now i just wear mine from time to time. I once left my SD in the bank for 6months before taking it out again. You think will have any big effects?

if your runs fine now mean no problem lo.... :Laughing_on_floor:
rolex qc is good... run the watch once a month is to avoid the oil flow down due to gravity...
if watch not over oil... like rolex.... it should be ok....
imagine your car engine... if you dont start your engine for 6 months then you may hv problem...
but modern oil with smaller molecule should stick on the piston bit...
same theory apply on watch parts.... but remember watch parts is small... so the capillary effect may helps....
anyway watches do not need much oil like engine because of less friction..... so thats why watches always last longer than car engine... unless you buy china made cheap movement which has no qc.....

Although this topic has not been active for the last 120 days, I want to put my 2 cents worth.
I only keep some of my automatics on winders. The automatics on the winders are the ones that I usually wear often.
The main benefit of the winder is that it keeps the watch at close to the proper time so you don't have to reset it, or reset it very little. From a failure perspective, I've tentatively concluded (on the basis of not much evidence) that the watch will probably last longer between service intervals if it's not running than if it is. I have seen comments about oil pooling if the watch is not running, but I've only seen them written by people selling watch winders.

no watch winder...enjoy winding my watch....not that i have many....and my strategy
lazy day...go for quartz...digital ...
ok day...go for auto...set the time....and put on wrist...let the auto run....
good day....wind and wind...enjoy the tick tick tick tick sound.....
