Title: Seiko 130'th Anniversary Exhibition at Mid Valley
Post by: kwh74 on June 15, 2011, 04:38:07 PM
Just went to MV with my family for shopping.  There are 2 booths in the event whereby one booth for the local Seiko fans (run by America Watch) and other for the elite Seiko (run by Thong Sia themself).  What surprise me is not the Seiko exhibition at the MV center court but what Thong Sia had brought in.  Yes is what we all are looking forward to see in M'sia the launch of Grand Seiko's and Ananta's.

What they have brought in just a small collection of GS and Ananta.  The highlight is the GS highbeat (36000) about RM19500/- and the Ananta Spring Drive Moonphase RM13950/-.  There is a limited edition of Ananta Spring Drive Chronograph which is specially allocated for this event.  As to one of the sales person that attend to me is from Hong Kong (i think the local is not good enough to sell the GS and Ananta yet).

I have try a few GS and the Ananta SD MP but my favourite still the GS SBGR053.  Thong Sia still has not plan to appoint new retailers for GS and Ananta in M'sia except for the current outlet in Sunway (Moments).

The event starts today and ending this coming Sunday.

I really love the GMT Springdrive and it is my target but prices seem a bit steep. Are they any chances of discounts or is the price fixed? Also curious, in what way does the gs sd diver wack the dssd? movement? build quality? design?

A simple GS SBGR05131 @ rn13500 would be nice. I like that. A 100% mechanical piece.

IMHO, could this piece subsitute a rolex date?

Anyone here could elaborate more on spring drive - that use capacitor? no?

BTW, Thong Sia has invited dealer for some coming soft opening. Anyone got details?

I dont think it can substitute. However, it can definitely complement one.

watch function and build quality can be substituted but you can never displace the brand. Rolex has a very strong branding. Even if the company is gone, the brand will stay.

jzen

A well informative piece. Thank you for sharing.

My conclusion Spring Drive
1) Seiko Japan has not specify the interval period for service
2) It still uses the IC and the generator (capacitor) in the system.
3) Although there is no battery change requirement, the quartz parts did not actually last longer than the normal quartz watch
4) No mention of shock absorber / anti shock??. Once you drop the watch, serious consequence will occurs
5) Its is not a 100% mechanical watch..IMHO
6) The watch need to send back to Japan for any repair and / or service.

my 2 cents
