Is Tourbillion movement,a trend in 2011?
I was looking at Basel World 2011 video(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTP0osA34Yw), all the watches features usually tourbillion

The tourbillon movement has been a 'trend' for the past few years with almost everyone having one in their collection. Personally, I consider it a novelty and most companies use it to as demonstration of watchmaking excellence and capabilities.
-
Well i wouldnt say that...because alot of the brands outsource their tourbillon movt to other companies.
BNB which is now part of Hublot, Claret, Renaud & Papi to name a few.

True but many buyers are not aware of this fact. Many buyers still consider the Tourbillon as the ultimate expression of engineering excellence in watch making.

I realised that most of Tourbillion movement watch are pretty damn expensive. Is beyond normal person that can afford.Just wondering what makes it so special that it costs almost 6 digit like Bell & Ross Watches - BR 01 Minuteur Tourbillon(List Price is USD200k)
-
The cheapest tourbillon would be a china brand (forgot the name) approx. Usd 1k
-
Seagull??
Saw one china made tourbillon at PS chinatown going for rm2k. Not fake though...but not sure how reliable..

Correct me if i am wrong....the china made tourbillon is called 'Phillippe Chiparus'. Almost buy it from a pre-owned watch shop in singapore!
-
Ops...i guess i am wrong. Phillippe chiparus was from swiss. However, can get a tourbillon from them at a fraction of cost compare to those 'big big' brand!
Hee!
-
Seagull (Tianjin Seagull) has 4 tourbillon movement, if I am not wrong. ST 80, 82, 84 and 8080.

i have did some research on tourbillon watch recently. was thinking to get myself a pcs as the movement is damn nice.
for info, the lowest proper tourbillon will be SEAGULL. price range from RM12k to RM17k. RM17k is a retrodate, moonphase with 1 min tourbillon. SEAGULL supply more than 50% automatic movement to worldwide watchmaker. beside they are the biggest manufacturer to supply tourbillon movement to others watchmaker as well. brands that using a SEAGULL i can think of is perpetual. u can surf online to have a look on the design but offcoz the design is not really nice especially from the back.
swiss doesn't consider SEAGULL tourbillon as a proper tourbillon as their accuracy is not there compare to a swiss made. for a swiss made tourbillon, the lowest i have come accross is RM89k which is JLC & Chronoswiss. others brand like IWC priced at RM120k, Blancpain priced at RM160k, AP at RM250k. even a pcs of frederique constant also is cost more than RM100k.
-
wha? i thought Blancpain FF Tourbillon was around RM80k...was thinking that's my next target tim...cham lo...like that hav to look at Rolesor YMII 1st ;D
-
Dunno how good it can be, but a Philippe Chiparus tourbilon cost about RM6400 in singapore. Well, looking at the movement is already an enjoyment!

articles said the basic requirement of a tourbillon must b 1 sec +/- monthly and some even 1 sec +/- 6mths. i donno how accurate is that. no chance to have a pcs to try. SEAGULL is the only tourbillon watch i play before. overall not bad looking, just the finishing is not fine as a swiss made.

well...RM6400 is consider a very normal one. no fish scale polish at the calibre. n the tourbillon movement also will not smooth as a real one.

Well chris, i personnaly wont believe in this as well. But mostly ppl buying a tourbillon is just becoz the movement where you can see it moving slowly. I personally like tourbillon especially swiss brand is becoz most of the brand will used their logo to make the pointer n that make it unique. But looking n owning a pcs is diff story lah. hahaha
