Hi guys,
I am contemplated to buy a very good condition 16710 coke with P serial (yr2000) but without box and paper, priced circa rm40k. Is this a reasonable price and will there be a problem to resell later?

No papers usually will take a very lonmg time to resell back. However if u buy to keep it then should not matter

Without the papers, you may need to incur costs to verify the watch failing which, you need to wait for a buyer who is willing to take the risk on your watch.

Thanks, I normally don't flip my watches.

My opinion is that the 16710 with a P serial would be more of a collector's watch. If you're lucky, it would come with SEL (solid endlinks) and a little more modern than the hollow ones. Whichever it is, it would have more value as a complete set. Not sure what the market price is now, but generally, without papers should be more cheaper than a complete set.
If you're buying because you like the watch and not for a collection or resale, then being incomplete means you can bargain for a lower price. You can then spend a bit of money and have it serviced at ROLEX Service Center and it will come back with a 2 year warranty and a card to certify it is genuine. You should be able to make special requests during service if there are items you do not wish to change to keep it original or not to polish the case.

Why not you upload some photos for the watch. 40k for no cert 16710 is not really a good bargain. Why not stretch a bit of you budget and you can get 1 with box n cert at least. A lot of 16710 in the market was born black bezel and ppl swap it with pepsi or coke bezel. It will be a problem in future when you wanna replace the bezel in RSC, they will only replace the bezel color that is in their database record.

This is the watch under consideration (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200924/937813cb7706ca870a6c7ac71c4c7598.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200924/e347b06ec1caa40527b04f4dd56fa747.jpg)

For collectors, lack of box and papers means drop a few thousands....

Also, do check the model number of the watch. Some came with model numbers specifying the bezel colour as per below:
- Black/red (coke) = 16710A
- Blue/red (Pepsi) = 16710B or 16710BLRO
- Black bezel = 16710N
My Pepsi was bought used without box and papers and my model number only says 16710 without the A or B or BLRO or N. I was told that RSC will replace the bezel with the same colour they see on the watch when you bring it in for a bezel swap and for those with the bezel colour specified on the model number, RSC will replace the bezel accordingly.
This is the reason why the 16710 with papers is worth significantly more as the colour of bezel will be indicated in the original papers. Unless the watch itself carries that extra colour code in the model number stamped on the watch case.
For those without papers or colour code on the model number there's no way to tell if the watch was originally black or pepsi or coke.

The green tag if available, it shown model number and indicate what is the original bezel color 16710 born with.
Black / Red (coke) = 16710
Blue / Red (Pepsi) = 16710BLRO
Black = 16710LN

Thanks guys for the useful info. After further consideration, I am considering a full set now, with nicely faded pepsi insert. Can you tell if this is originally pepsi, coke or LN?(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200925/06803f128063c61ed8d93e0d068156d6.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200925/bab4ce72915c188789199ff169c4c83f.jpg)

Can only tell if the fullset come with green tag like below, or bring it to RSC to verify.

Regardless whether the watch comes with paper or not, I would take it to RSC to have them checked out. I don't mind buying a watch without paper, as long as it is priced accordingly. During the old days, it is common for ppl to leave the box and paper at the AD and walk out with only the watch.
On a separate note, why settle for a pepsi if what you really wanted is a coke?
-
Well, ideally I wanted a coke but don't mind getting a pepsi if price is right. The insert can always be changed, that's what I love about GMT. Going to deal this weekend.

All the best in your deal. Keep the faded pepsi bezel
