Post by: danny on January 27, 2011, 06:08:29 PM
The deadline's come and gone. Malaysia Watch Forum members have voted for their favorite watch brands for 2010 in 2 categories.

First, the results for the Luxury Watch category: In descending order the top five luxury brands are Rolex, Panerai, Omega, IWC and Lange. The results represented in pie-chart format:

I have to admit that I was initially surprised to see Damasko in the top 5 list. However if you really consider the quality of the Damasko watches then you'll realize that Damasko have every right to be amongst the top 5 affordable watch brands in Malaysia.

Damasko sure is one tough fella!
Value for value i think Ball is also comparable to it.

Thanks for raising this issue. Actually Orient did make the list with a single vote. After reading your comment I checked the chart and realized that the brand list was truncated.
I have uploaded a new chart reflecting the full brand list and you can now see that Orient did make the list.

I agree with you that Orient make fine and affordable timepieces. However Orient's brand awareness in Malaysia may not be up there with the other more established players such as Seiko, Casio, Ball and Oris who spend big bucks on brand promotion. Even compared to the lesser known brands such as Enzo and Defakto etc, Orient do not have the kind of internet marketing savvy required to raise the brand profile online.
IMHO more needs to be done to promote the Orient brand in Malaysia.

Anyway you'll get a chance to cast your vote for Orient in the 2011 survey.

hi all i'm new here. i was quite impressed by the survey result, it has also changed my perception on some brands and it is interesting to see brands like damasko being in the top 5. honestly i have yet to be exposed to that brand. but like other forummers i dont get it how come tag heuer didn't even get any where near either luxury or value survey how come ah? is the quality of their watches deteriorating?

Interesting that Tag didn't make the list, though I'm not too fond of it myself, personally feel it's very young and too common (but then again, I'm wearing Seiko, lagi common, haha).

Beginning to love the design of the Damasko, was drooling over their website earlier, lume seems nice too, though I'm not sure how good the performance of the lume is in real world.

Agreed with Chrisyen. Zenith is indeed a well build watch.

But in Malaysia the market of Zenith is not really there, especially for the Defy models - which in my thoughts are too big for the Asian wrist. The El Primero, Ladies open heart/star and Grande are more a popular choice.

Well if people is wearing PAM then those Defy is not too big IMO.

What made it fail was the crazy high prices that Zenith was demanding.
Now these watches can be had for half the list brand new.

True that, but PAM is big and neat. The defy is just somehow too loud in my opinion. And yes the prices was indeed very high; which is why we look into the sub-dealers / grey market where the prices are discounted heavily (true watch enthusiast would only approach this buying method)

But end of the day, PAM's branding really hit the spot of the consumers in Malaysia. Buy by brand or Buy by built?

Zenith's crazy price is because the watches were "hand-made" from the screws, rotor, dial, hands etc and was produced in limited numbers annually.

Anyway, looking forward to the next MWF survey (which I think is next month).

Hate on Tag Heuer is often based on one misinformation and poor analysis.

If one insist Tag Heuer to be a fashion watch,

well,

Tag Heuer is indeed a top watchmaker with fashion sense. ;)
