Title: Watches you just dont get?
Post by: takashi78 on January 18, 2011, 06:25:24 AM
I mean...every watch has a buyer (hopefully) but there are many watches that i just "dont get" why its created and why someone in their right mind would buy.

Top of my list, the Artya "Dina crap" watch. Yes, its actually dinosaur poo! This one goes even beyond the RJ Titanic watches (I'll post that later).
Here is the watch with the brands CEO. :-\

for me? any heavily diamond crusted sports watches.... Daytona Leopard, GMT Patriot ...infact even Serti dials. Men with too much bling is just so wrong  :Laughing_on_floor: end up looking like Liberace

but i do agree with you ..i wonder who would actually buy those coprolite crap. maybe in a few hundred million years from now.. they would be wearing ancient homo sapiens poo too.

every one watch is made because somewhere in this world, there is demand. If we dont get it, others will. Having said that the daytona leopard is ugly to me. Diamond encrusted watch are popular in the US so it is hard to say that. Certain pieces are explained by their rarity. Like the "Dina crap". Who can say that they own some dino crap?

Ok this is next.
The RJ Titanic double tourby (yes i cant spell the full word hehe).
What i dun understand is
- No time display, one spins when its day and the other when its night.
- I dont feel comfortable wearing this series, mainly coz alot of people died in that ship wreck and i feel that their "ghost" might follow me around.

That said, some of the models in the titanic series is actually quite ok.

All the above still ok la... at least got some "story" behind it, built in memory of some past events/tragedy/etc.

But there is just no excuse for these.

i dunno, maybe i am still new and dont know how to appreciate a Patek yet. to me they worse than a piece of shit. of course real patek enthusiast can say i cant afford them or sour grape. just like a Pagani Zonda or some other exotic cars, i rather take a cheaper Porsche or Ferrari anyday.

Tag, to me they are neither there , neither here, just like a Volvo in the car industry or if use handbags as a comparison, maybe Guess or Coachs yes, some models with heritages, but some are downright ugly to me.

What you said didnt make much sense.

1- High end Patek is crap, lower eng Tag is not here or there, so what do you consider reasonable and what do you wear?

2- A Pagani is expensive but you would take a "cheaper" Ferrari, hmmm.....so where does this put Patek?

For the sake of argument, why is Patek crap to you? style? size?......

dude, what is the problem with you?

i did say it is my personal opinion and i did say i am still new and maybe i dont know how to appreaciate a Patek. which part of my english you do no understand?

isn't this thread what it is all about? if i dont like a BMW or prefer a Mercedes, it doesnt need to make any sense to others. purely my own liking. if you happen to be a BMW fan, good for you.

one man's poison is another man's meat.

why did you get so worked out on my post?

you yourself called the other watch a dinasaur poo.

i think you're being a little defensive here.
of course it's fine to say you don't like a certain brand, that's fair enough. but there's no reason for calling it 2worst than a piece of shit."
a little civility is appreciated here.
besides, we are only interested in the reason behind why you are so against PP. if you can give us a good reason, that's fine, but to lash out at other members, that's uncalled for.
i own a tag myself, i personally don't feel offended when you say you didn't like it.
a little common sense goes a long way, newbie!

Yup just looking for conversations here nothing to get angry about.
You said its worse than a piece of shit but surely you have your reasons right?
So if you feel by your lack of appreciation you think its crap then maybe its unfair to Patek?
Again this is in no way meant to be insult or anything just trying to get the discussion going.

Well if you google and research the watch that i called dinasaur poo, it IS dinasaur "shit" that they use to make the watch. Its the ACTUAL SHIT no kidding hahaha!

Woah... heated i see
I think takashi meant no disrespect... he's juz asking for your reasons why you think a certain brand is not to your liking.
I have some brands that I will not touch as well and the reasons are purely my own... other ppl might not get it but it doesn't hurt to share bro...

genec, if others can mention that " who in the right mind would buy such a watch" here and said what i wrote doesnt make any sense and i cant say it is worse than a piece of shit. who is being defensive?

so , the statement who in the right mind would buy such a watch is fair ??

personal opinions are entirely personal and they dont need to make any sense to anyone. I dont have to fair or unfair to PP, because even if i dont like it, doesnt mean it is a bad watch. it may not be for me maybe now or maybe in 20 years time i have a big collection of PP? nobody knows.

being expensive is not everything takashi, and yes, i would take a Ferrari or a Porsche over a Zonda any day, because to me the Zonda is just plain ugly and has no heritage that is of any value to me, but maybe to others.

if you really want to know why i dont like PP personally, i think they are more like cartoon watches and they look like crap to me personally and doesnt fit my personality and seriously for now, i dont know who in the right mind would even pay for it.....those are my reasons for now till i can appreaciate them better. i hope nobody takes my opinion and start a flame war here.

Relax. To each their own preference. Hence the title 'watches you just dont get' cause if you 'get it' then its a whole different matter.

Lets go BIG this time with this.
Even on governators wrist it looks big.
And yet i see alot people buy that with small wrist. I wonder if they wear it daily or just to show off.

On a side note, when i was looking for pics of this watch to post MWF link came up with Chris thread!

Interesting topic this..

I am no fan of what i personally term as "gimmick" watches and for me Romaine Jerome ( and that seriously bling Casio...wow!!! ) falls under this category.
I dunno what RJ sells for but I presume its some astronomical RM 6 figure...might be ok for some rich corporate figure Dato' with an overflowing bank a/c so that he can brag about his watch being made of titanic steel/moon dust/volcano while holding a voluptous babe in his arm...but for me minus the gimmick the watch is just all packaging , period. If u hv that much to spend (which I don't AND won't anyway), Patek at least has an in-house movement, heritage, historty and re-sale value.

I was shocked to find out that some RJ basic models list for under 40k or 30k ringgit.
I sorta like their Moondust models though. LOL at the dead alien on the dial.
