Title: New B-day Prezzie!!!!!! Wempe Zeitmeister Aviator XL
Post by: terrenceterrence on December 29, 2010, 02:40:50 AM
Willkommen in Munchen!!!

Just strolling around the Munich city centre with the wife and happen to pass by Wempe and peered into the display window. the Europeans are not shy to display prices of all their watches and was surprised that the price of this beauty is quite reasonable and the wife urged me to go in and have a look.

Had the watch brought to the table and tried it on....and the rest as they say is history. So in the end it's going home with me as my b-day prezzie this year  :Dancing_banana: :Dancing_banana:

something with a lil' heritage  ;D

Thats a very nice caseback!
The watch kinda reminds me of a IWC Mark XV but with different hands.
What size is the watch?

this is equipped with an modified ETA A07.161 Valgranges movement. the movement is 36mm so it would fit better in the 42mm case better with very little spacers. the Junkers that Danny have uses the same movement but Wempe removed the power reserve.

yeah there are a few Wempe + Nomos watches displayed in the show room. and like everywhere, Sales Execs are hopeless and utterly have zero knowledge in what they are selling.

The price is not much of a secret. think it would not be unappropriate for me to disclose here because the MRSP is all over the internet. since it's just 100 euro off the MRSP with 19% VAT rebate.

Hrmm, disappointing. I was hoping that things would be better overseas and it was just a Malaysian thing :/ Kinda hope to get good customer service, especially when you're buying such an expensive thing. I normally buy my stuff over in Singapore for that reason :/

it's the same everywhere if you go to chain retailers even very big ones. the only places you can have an interesting chat are maybe smaller independent watch dealers who are manned by the owners themselves

Don't be too hopeful bro, as things are not necessarily better just because they're located in so-called developed countries. I bought all my Omegas in the UK from an AD, and surprisingly even its staff weren't be able to tell the difference between the watch serial number and the bracelet number. Shocking!! :o

first question i asked... what's the movement..he look blank.. excused himself and went behind and took out the catalog.

second question i asked when i played with the watch. noticed not a screw down crown... so i asked what;s the water resistance. again he look blank. tried to find the answer in the catalog. can't find any details.. so again excused himself and went behind to ask his colleagues. came out and told me the answer.

damn! and u think they are a very..very ..big chain with outlets all throughout europe and US. not to mention i am buying their in-house product! ::)

Haha. Damn. You'd think dedicated stores for expensive stuff would offer you staff with the proper knowledge and stuff. But then again, it's part of keeping costs low, I guess. At least they smile and look at you while talk (I hope), lol. Manners :D (though knowledge is another thing).

But definitely to experience of buying something from someone who has passion for the subject/topic is much better, and you end up feeling more satisfied, regardless of whatever you're buying. Small_independent_shops++ I guess, haha.

Hi Terrence,
Great catch. That's one good looking watch. Congrats.

Looking at the engraving on the caseback I would say that this watch is a certified chronometer but the certification is by Wempe's own facility in Glashutte.
