Title: How safe is safe?
Post by: David_cheong on May 14, 2009, 09:22:17 PM
I believe many of us WIS have had great a number of fine watches.

When not on your wrist, are these fine extra pieces lying around in the house in an unsecured manner.
I mean, do you have a good safe box to keep your precious items?

For me, I have invested a good 'Alphamax' safe (4 adult man to carry) to deposit my goodies.
On top of that, I have also invested in the Home contents insurance policy which covered my personnal belongings (valuables, eg watches) up to 1Xk....or so....

What say you?

I myself only have 2 "expensive" watches. So one is always at the safe deposit box at the bank.

When i was in the US i bought insurance on my watch, just a one off policy.

Does Malaysia have the same type of insurance to buy?

Don't think in Msia has such thing, i mean buy insurance for your watches from AD/Insurance company. In UK, the AD will encourage you to buy this type of insurance and it's a common practice for the local... My friend bought a TAG in UK, the insurance is around 80GBP for a 400GBP watch (the amount of insurance is depend on the watch value)..it cover 3 years (I think the number of year is optional, can do just for 1 year) which included stolen, damage of the watch, etc...

Spoken from a guy who witnessed arm robbery , unless your vault / safe is hidden or concealed ; it won't make lots of different. Would you not open the safe at gun point ?

Yes, I bought my Insurance for Home contents and world wide personal effect & valuables from an well established Insurance company in Malaysia.

Yearly Premium at approx. RM250 for coverage up to RM25k (enough to cover two watches) with a little bit left for home computer / audio system etc, in case of theft / break-in etc. (touch wood)

Not too sure they sell to individual/s. I bought mine when I was attached to one corporate company many moon/s ago.

I used to deposit my watches at the safe (bank) box but find it too troublesome when your urge craved in for a change. You know that kind of feeling when you need to swap your watch ...without delay?! :HammerHead:

Hi Takashi,
You can purchase insurance for your watches and jewellery from a few of the local insurance companies. What you have to do is declare the items that you want insured and the estimated value. The company will send an agent to visually confirm and check the items at your home. The premium is pegged at a fixed percentage of the insured value, arnd 0.3% per annum if I recall correctly.

I've though to make a secret box/safe place in my house for my watches.... just in case. Got many idea... but don't know which one is the best. Also had the feeling to make a secret room just like James Bond. Wakakaka...

i hv a solid heavy mechanical safe tuck into a U corner, rounded by masonry wall...
so it is impossible for man to carry this out... not even 10 men. because only 1 human hand can go in...
but no human being can carry this weight!
