Hi all
Recently I saw an ad from a reputable local dealer selling a used Cartier Santos with 18k Gold bezel.
From the photos it look amazing. BUT, when I went to see it in person, the gold was BARELY NOTICEABLE at all.
Are they trying to scam me?
Will the gold fade over time?
What is happening?

Could it be the surrounding lighting reflection? Sometimes gold color turns pale because lighting.

My mum has a ladies Santos with gold bezel, you can still see very clearly the yellow gold outdoor under the sunlight. But this one, under the sunlight it's just silver. When I hide it in my shirt I can see only a little bit yellow gold

In my view it's all light play. AD pic taken in a different light conditions then the used. And for sure brand new is new so polish is new. I don't think it's a scam and more of light play. But well I have not seen in real so can't say much

That is normal.
If shot the photo under the yellow lighting, the gold color will turn darker and richer.
Even though they are the same 18k gold, but if they come from different gold mills. The 18k gold color can be different.
My Tissot Carson 18k gold vs Rolex Cellini 18k Gold. Rolex Gold colour always looks better.

Gold reflection is most likely depends on lighting color or dark environment. It could turn out differently.

Here are the photos of gold watch under direct sunlight and shade, for easy comparison.

Oxidized 18k yellow gold might look darker n differ from unoxidized gold which will look a little pale.
FYI the mixture of gold watches are 75 percent gold to 25 percent steel .

I see, so does it mean every watch (even from the same model) will have a different colour depending on usage?

May not be a direct relation but it I believe so. Like every Bronze watch can be different from other depending on usage.

Rolex will be the exception because it has its own gold furnace and production department. Its gold color will not change like other watch brands. My tissot carson gold watch even get reddish stain just like my 999 bullion gold coin when it ages. :P

So does my rolex president 18238 and Daytona 2 tone 16523.
Who says rolex gold doesn't oxidized..?Oxidized 18k yellow gold might look darker n differ from unoxidized gold which will look a little pale.
