Guys,
Between Jaeger LeCultre and Girard Perregaux, which one is the better buy in terms of value, heritage, prestige and workmanship, lets say between a GP Vintage 1945 and an entry level Jaeger?

Apples and oranges bro, at least give us a JLC model to compare to so we can gauge better.
But overall GP is a very much under rated brand. They produce some really nice watches but the problem with them is the price point is set too high.
Coupled with the low resale value and high discounts given is not helping their image.
When looking at dial design, i say nothing beats a 3 golden bridge.

I agreed with Takashi.
Personally I prefer JLC

Any idea why the resale value is not as good as JLC?

Depend on model...
3 golden bridges resale value better than jlc
the sea hawk also not bad

Wahh, i thought GP is the same level as JLC since it has a rich heritage being in the market for more than 200 years.....

GP has a very rich history being amongst winners at chronometry competition winners n 60s.
Of course the company has also changed hands since the orginal founder and the now deceased Macaluso (Sowind) was the last guy who bought over the name. At least the company will be passed down to his sons continuing the legacy something like PP.
The thing abt GP is that they have very few base calibers in their repertoire and their complications such as world timer, etc are modules built on the base caliber.
They do not have a huge base of calibers for various complications unlike JLC and yet their price levels are sometimes even higher than JLC pricing hence I do not see the attraction. The level of finishing is not at VC, PP, Lange, Brequet or even Cartier,JLC level so I do not see the premium value that they are asking for.
Had they been priced below JLC, I would have considered some of their watches such as their ww.tc, Seahawk or Laureto Evo series.
Good watches but not priced attractively viz-a-viz their movt/finishing quality.
