Title: Sweeping hand quartz?
Post by: whomstdve on April 13, 2017, 05:52:55 AM
Good morning fellow forumers,

While most of us here take pride and swear by mechanical/automatic movements, when it comes to accuracy and reliability, quartz is still something to always go to (after digital of course).

However being one of the finer things in life, automatic/mechanical movements have that sweet character of sweeping second hand. I'm just wondering, is there any quartz movement that utilizes this feature?

My quartz wall clock is sweeping hand!

But yes . It is seldom for quartz watch using sweeping hand, maybe it will consume more battery power by having that.

Yes, according to technical information, sweeping seconds hand will consume more power.
Seiko do has quartz chronograph movement with sweeping seconds hand but only for the seconds hand doing the counting time chronograph function... good feature to pretend than you have a mechanical movement.

Seiko have two quartz models that have sweeping seconds hand.
1. Based on 5S21 Movements
    - Seiko Dolce
    - Seiko Spirit

2. Based on 5S42 Movements
Only one model - Seiko Majesta (Logo similiar to Credor).
Majesta even stated as precursor to the Spring Drive. It was consider as High Accuracy Quartz (HAQ) at that time.

No. Not all Seiko Dolce. Only the one with 5S21 movements. Particular models are in 90's.
Newer Dolce use different movements.

For a sweeping hand quartz you can refer to the mondaine stop2go which is pretty affordable.

Mondaine Stop2go is not really sweeping. The ticking is pretty much visible.
It's uniqueness is in emulating Railway Clock where the minutes hand will jump to next minute.

Speaking about Bulova precisionist range. I have never seen any watch shop carries the Bulova range in Kuala Lumpur though. Anyone seen it before?
