Dear fellow forumers.
My friend just told me he got a bargain for a Tag (RM1k++). I wanted to be happy for him, but when I see the watch, it looked a tad suspicious. The seller told him he lost the box and receipt, and got the watch as a gift. I think it's a fake because:
1) The dial colour is not the same blue with 2016 Aquaracer. The ones from the website is darker shade of blue.
2) The model number engraved at the back doesn't tally.
3) The lume colours are off.
But the weight and built quality feels solid though. Bracelets feels good too.
Is it really a fake?

Only way to be certain is to open up the caseback or bring it to SC to authenticate
-
most likely is fake.
apart from the signs you pointed our, engraving at the back is not as deep as the original.
-
Looks fake as fonts and minute markers are seems to be wrong.

How do I break the news to my unfortunate friend. Sigh.

Unfortunately, it is a fake. Look at the font, the engraving, the lume, etc. It strays too far from the actual AC5. And the serial no. was recycled from an Aquaracer Titanium Sand.

But then again, he paid only RM1k+ for the whole thing without box and papers; so I dare say that he had already anticipated that it was likely a fake but he could live with it. So why do you want to burst his bubble? Just let him have his 15 mins of fun, until he felt intrigued enough to really spend his hard-earned dough on the actual article.

Come to think of it, this is quite a bad fake. The model number and serial number itself is a total giveaway already. I can't believe my friend actually pulled the trigger. I guess I'll just follow your advice and just let him savour the moment.

what really bothers me is more the a$$hole that sold it to him under the premise that it was genuine..... some people have no conscience :HammerHead:

I was at Tag Heuer Malaysia service center that day, I saw many sent in their watch to verify the watch is real or fake. I was told the inspection and verification is free of charge, just take a few minute.

Mine is like this, deep at the back.

The blue is way off from the original watch. This in mine for the chrono version
