Title: How to know the EXII has the same movement as GMT green hand?
Post by: Coco on November 26, 2010, 06:14:33 AM
Guys,
I'm interested in pre-owned EXII as a present for my wife and I wanted the one with new movement (the same one as in GMT green hand)
Are there any differences e.g. model code/number, between the old movement and the new one?
Thanks for info.
Cheers!  :)

I doubt the EXII come with the same movement as the new GMT2-C, i think the movement is called 3186 with new hairspring.

I only knew the latest batch of the GMT-2 (old version) coke bezel come with this new movement.

Not too sure if EXII come with it...

Thanks Scott,
I'm quite sure that from mid of M-series, EXII have exactly the same movement as GMTII green hand (with parachrome blue spring).
But I really have no idea how to cross check, when purchasing a pre-owned one, that the movement is the latest one, unless opening the case back.

You can do the "wiggle" check as with the previous GMT2 models without opening the casing.

Sure. OK. at least now i know EXII does come with 3186 ;)

Honestly, it's a bit hard to know unless you bought used and request to open up the case for verification (like sshark's link)... otherwise, i'm not sure (can't remember, sigh... again, can't remember, getting old dy) if the card stated the movement... by just checking the serial number might not be 100% accurate too in my opinion as you know sometimes Rolex did do thing a little bit out of the "standard"  :P

So looks like without opening the caseback can check the series and roughly will know.

Ya, but i still dont' 100% trust that... i think the GMT-2 even with M series, some are with 3186 and some are not...

Hopefully some experience sale guy can tell before you purchase  :Praying:

Thanks for all comments.
I think I will buy it in Thailand, where I can go to Rolex Service Center with the seller to open the case back. They will charge only 100 RM and I can have a peace of mind that I got the original RL watch with the movement I like. Cheers. ;)
