Hard to sell used watch right now
Market is slow and many people is askin for fun
Not really serious buyer
-
It maybe hard for private sellers. I think the queries are more for the buyers wanting to get the best deal. There are times where I would like to sell my watch for a particular price but upon doing some research and fact-finding, the same watch can be had for lower at a grey market dealer and it comes with the said dealer's warranty. It used to be that if one is rigid with their pricing, it will take a while but eventually the watch will be sold. These days, I think one has to wait much much longer unless one's price is flexible.
The slow market does not seem to impact my regular pre-owned dealers though. Every time I am there, there are always buyers snapping up a few pieces at any one time. If anything, my dealer is finding it hard to find stock due to the weak currency.
-
I am not too sure about that. I see watches in the right brand and model with good pricing snap up almost immediately when they are advertised.
Sometime you got to ask yourself, the watch you selling vs new what is the gap ? If too small people would just buy new.
Secondly if you got the pricing right then perhaps is the model.
-
hm...probably the watch you selling might not in demand, so it will take quiet a while to sell
also if you price ur watch competitively, it might be snap up quicker
-
Generally watches with precious metal/bling bling will be more difficult to sell eg s/s submariner vs gold submariner

For ptivate seller, possibly the asking price and the after sales service are the main concern.
-
Sad to admit that , only Rolexs sell the quickest based on my experience (in Malaysia) . I have sold other watches but the price has to be discounted very much lower than those selling the same watch by used retailer. Rolexs especially sport models are very liquid
-
Truth be told. The world market is slow for everything. Real estate, luxury goods, which includes watches and everything else in between. Everyone is affected and there is a slowdown everywhere. It is a buyers market and cash is king. But then again, this statement has always been true. Cash is always king...
-
supply and demand creates the market.... oversupply slows things down as the choices are abundant.
If there is hype around a particular model and supply is low then its a quick seller.... many Rolex fall into this category whereas Bell& Ross, Ball, Tag Heuer doesnt really, plenty of stock at discount prices makes them slow movers as everyone knows waiting can usually get a better deal.
And the price of the Ringgit also comes into play, luxury items usually take a hit when the dollar is low.

Maybe mine is low demand in the market

Maybe mine is low demand in the market
Hi Bro.
What watch you are selling?
-
Got oris and Rolex explorer
-
That means your asking price is not realistic of market demand/ pricing. Rolex Daytona Ceramic selling at RRP ...... long queue for it, selling it at RM70k will take a while even for hot models. Good times bad times buyer wants to buy cheap, seller wants premium or highest price ....
-
I too am trying to sell 2 watches, but no luck so far. Not sure whether it's because the market is slow as it's my 1st time selling non-Omega/Tag.
-
Yep. The market isn't as liquid as hoped. But as long as you have holding power. No worries. The only thing that sucks is that you can't get the next watch fast enough cause you haven't sold your current watch. Oh well.
-
I have been trying to sell a tag for a while , sadly most of the offers have been from scammers. What i have realized is
- Rolex are the easiest to sell
- People are looking for a bargain price or 'Best Best Price'
-
Feom " scammers " ?

Feom " scammers " ?
Nigerian number , asking me to ship overseas and he will transfer me money
-
Scammer active in this online market since longtime ago
Not only Nigerian, even Malaysian people also trying to scam people like us
Go to mudah.my to see
-
just put something up on mudah and within 5 minutes of your ad being approved you should get a few hits from +234 (nigeria) numbers. some are even using malaysian numbers.
the more expensive your item, the more hits you will get. one even asked a friend of mine to ship his car to nigeria.
-
ive advertised 2 watches on Mudah and have had at least 15 contact me from +234 numbers.... i enjoy leading them on... keeps me amused lol!
-
All they need is 1/1000 chance to get the water fish. Those who never read or experience before seller will be very tempted by their offer price. Then prepare to receive " emails " from bank demand tracking number before the money released and if you wont ship they threathen with FBI lol.
Their modus operandi is about the same for the past decade and they seems continue using it, which mean there are still peoples who fall for it.
-
sadly if they are still doing it that means people are still falling for it
-
Patek and Rolex are easiest to sell. But less of a bargain there.

I'm a serial watch flipper. I find that the market is still alright- especially if you were putting out watches wanted by the mass market like the "current in-thing" Turtles of various guises. When it came to watches higher up the food chain, Rollies and Omegas seemed to command faster responds, although potential buyers these days seemed to offer swap plus trade-up, or ask for additional discounts. But the interests for Rollies were much higher, especially after the Jan price increase. And anyway, holding Rollies could only see its RRP prices going north-wards with every passing year; so if you were not in a hurry to sell, you would eventually get your asking price.
-
Bought few vintage Rollie lately, I can tell the impact of Rollie Jan price increase has taken a toll in the preowned piece price. Even the vintage piece price increases a lot.
To certain special vintage Rollie, ppl still snatch them up quickly even in slow market.
-
Yeah
Vintage Rolex is holds good value
Just grab one few days ago
-
Depends on the watch and the price.
High demand pieces can sell very fast.
I seen in SG ceramic Daytona sell for over retail for 23k. That's black dial.
For second hand also certain pieces easy sell.

Agree

If you price it right, it will sell. Problem is, there are lots of low ballers around. Can't stand them
-
I personally don't think this is true.
If you want a watch, you'll get it immediately. If the watch looks good and the specifications suits your needs, you WILL get it.
We have to also remember that there are many more affordable watches in the market.
For example, females can opt for Hush Puppies Timepieces if they want something classy. The men can opt for CAT (Catterpillar) watches for something more outdoorsy.
At the end of the day, it's really up to the person. It is up to how they feel and because of that, I think that watches will never go out of style. :)

Can't agree with you more...loads of people just asking. Some may even pretend that they are "interested". You ask them what they are willing to offer, and they will ask you for "best price". You give them what you deem is the best price, and they will say..."hhmmm interesting, quite close to but not what I'm willing to pay". LOL...really with the exception of watches from big brands whom some will pay a good price for, the rest are just sitting there waiting to be sold unless offered at pasar malam prices.
-
I reply politely to low ballers. Never once sold a piece at a low balled price yet. Keep on tryin' lowballies! ;D
-
It is a willing seller, willing buyer situation when you post something for sale. Don't need to get overly worked up by lowballers. Just tell them no. I have also seen sellers asking for ridiculous prices for their used watches and get pissed when someone offers them the real market price.
-
LOL, I have a watch blog and you should see some of those offers that I received from time to time. A while ago, some chap offered to buy a watch in my collection, which I had not wanted to flip as yet (yes, I am a serial watch flipper  ); and said that he was willing to buy more than the price I bought so I could get a decent profit. So I asked him what was his intended price, but he was shifty. When I showed him the market price of the watch as per retailer's website, he then countered to say that he could get it so much cheaper at pre-owned grey retailers (without warranty) and shied away. So much for offering me more than the price that I bought ;D You would meet some low-ballers from time to time; but having flipped almost 60 watches todate, I dare say that there are many watch enthusiast gentlemen too
