Hi all MWF,
After much consideration and much help from fellow forumers specially much contribution from @olkuu0205 @Cocas and @terencefoo59..
I had a walk again in Mall and basically shortlisted my list to 3 of the following:-
-Oris Aquis Date - Blue dial, ceramic bezel, Metal strap - below 5.5k
- Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon Deep Quest - stainless steel built -> unsure but should be around 7k also
-Tag Heuer Aquarace Calibre 5 - Black dial, ceramic bezel, Metal strap -> 7k+
I honestly needed advise again on the criteria below based on the model stated above. My Budget is RM8k+- which mean if I were to go for Oris, I will also consider extra order for the rubber strap for more casual occasion use.
-Robustness/build quality/qc
-Movement quality of the watch
-Best for everyday wear and long term use
-Price:value ratio
-Something I should know?
Again thank you all for the input..
Nef
PS: photo below for reference, I decided not to take the Ball Hydrocarbon GMT cause hours marking complicated and not to my liking, if I were to get the Ball I will go for DeepQuest or something simpler and bold.

Tag or oris nicer than ball. My friend Pakai ball the model u show above quite few of them have issue defect problem on bracelet broke very easily, screw not tight on those case part or even the tritium tube drop before...funny xia :D
Choose tag or oris lo haha
-
I would buy the oris and get some leather straps on it with the extra budget. You can get custom strap makers to make them for you from USD 100-180 per strap. Don't buy the rubber strap if you can. Do check if it's easy to remove and install strap on the watch though and what tools you need to buy which is usually just a single screw driver with the right size.
-
For me, either tag or oris but prefer tag more on its look and shape. For oris, the dial looks too empty with small hands and I like the bezel of the tag.
-
I would think the oris is abit plain and simple.. where the tag is more class..dont forget it can change to rubber strap as well
-
Hey guys, thanks for the input.
Well I think now is down to oris or tag now. I had remove ball from the list reason being that the dial is nice but at the same time I had bad experience getting my hand hurt by the dial (even smaller one) when I push against the floor while I fell on slippery floor.
Now for tag and oris, how's the build quality to compare with? Price:value ratio? Any issue I should be aware of?
Either of them, I'll get it with a metal bracelet 1st then will get an extra leather/rubber/fabric strap later on as suggested. The original tag heuer strap really looks nice though compared to the original oris rubber strap. So if Oris, I might go for an after market leather strap instead of its rubber one..
Ps: Do advise as well which of these 2 watches looks better on my wrist? ;D
Edit: For side note, my feeling towards these 2 watches now are:-
Tag - Looks nicer on my wrist but I felt this brand is getting more mainstream which I do not like. Does the spec justify the price where it is almost RM2k more expensive than Oris which have the equal performance.
Oris - I like this watch reason being the blue dial which give a sense of elegance at the same time a sporty feeling by the exterior built and... I always thought that Oris is a more premium brand than Tag Heuer and din't know why (No offend to Tag users/fan)

I put Ball rank above Oris and Tag in term of toughness and durability.
In term of casing shape and Stainless Steel finishing surface, Tag is best amongst them.
If your want the best hour marker/ hands finishing, Ball is the best.
For moonphase, ball first then follow by Oris.
The above just my personal opinion though.

I owned similar tag, except it's came with yellow stitch strap. If you ask me, I am happy with my tag...
Fyi, I also owned oris and ball, which are Oris F1 william and Ball Stormchaser. Both watches were in my stable since 2009.

Hi azzamov, is yours with the black dial and black case with black ceramic bezel? If yes I assume that's the titanium version.
If so just curious how long u been using it and does the coating chip off easily?
-
well..since u clearly like the oris more..then just go for it. =)..but if you are willing to spend around 8 to 9k..maurice is also a good choice..class and elegant.
-
with 8 to 9k can check
out
preown bell and ross already if lucky

Hello bro. Nope, mine is the regular stainless steel model, 41mm size.
Initially wanted the blue one with some orange details, but no stock.
So I settled with black...

Brought tag calibre 5 ceramic at Changi Airport for sgd2200 with free gift. Been wearing it for a year now. Solid piece
-
Get That Tag AR Ceramic , it will looks good either on bracelet or rubber. The fitting also nice, not too tick.
-
I'd go with the Tag. Still the best brand for entry level watches.

Weird, i do own a few ball watches and have never encountered such issues. FYI, some are already 8 years old, mind you.
Maybe your friend was just unlucky. For the above stated issues, they should be noticeable within the 3 year warranty period, no?
In which he can go to service center and get them fixed or replaced.
-
Anyway to TS, I think the new Oris Propilot big crown day date is nice.
Just a suggestion.

I put Ball into fridge to test it's mechanical thermometer, i also had a car accident and my Ball mad cow knocked against the dashboard badly but it's tick perfectly and I didn't even need sending it for service.

tag heuer seem like the brand name is not up to the price now
-

Actually I am abit towards Oris now.. Tag Heuer seem to be very mainstream now.
Plus, when I look around pre-own shops or pre-own online watch have tonnes of these Calibre 5 AR.. From old to new.. Makes me had a bad feeling to buy it as my 1st luxury entry watch..
I am also looking at the Bell & Ross 03-92 steel now... apparently it fits my wrist well.
But lots people had said that their price does not judge the value of the watch.. After some studies yes.. because it uses similar movement to other 3 watches I had posted which is much cheaper..

Totally It's not similar movement bro... oris u post 733 movement is based on sellita sw200 and tag caliber 5 now also using sellita sw :Blue:
while the one u wear bell & ross is using high end precision adjusted ETA 2892-2 , the model u wear 03-'92'means the caliber 28'92'-2 in bell & ross :Jumping:
It's a super famous and robust reliable & accurate movement. Iwc mark xviii, entry portofino and some other top brand now is on this movement too... do more homework first bro.
bell & Ross branding is just like BMW while the brand u post earlier is more like Volkswagen, no wrong no right depend on you. But guess most people will go for BMW Mercedes if want me to choose.
Value is vary, because the three other watch u post also doesn't seem like do judge the value of the watch either...
-
For RM8k, I would go pre-owned for the simple reason that "value" is better there with someone else taking a hit on their initial outlay. For RM8k, you could look at the pre-ceramic Omega Seamaster, some Omega Speedmaster Automatic with Co-Axial movement ( not to be confused with the 9300 caliber), some older variant IWC etc.
If however I am stuck with the three choices, I would go for the Tag Heuer.

Hi olku0522,
Yes, did some research but instead of eta 2892-2 I thought they are using a reworked selitta sw300 (use to substitute eta 2892-2) to their own so call calibre BR-cal.302.
While I know the tag and oris I posted earlier are using the movement brother to eta 2892-2 and and sw300 which are eta 2824 for the tag and sw200 for the oris.
Read some reviews for 2824/sw200 vs 2892/sw300 both have their pros and cons and their basically on par which each other.
Correct me if I'm wrong though..

Bell and Ross is using high grade ETA movement, even the one u post 03-92 is using 2892-2 top grade. Not reworked sellita movement as u said... of course every watch brand have their own name for their caliber but u need to know their base movement on each model or it might be an in-house. Both are different manufacturer not brother...2824=sw200-2, , I have ETA and sellita watch, the one with sellita I sold, personally I only go for ETA(except 2824)or either in-house. I won't use apple compare with orange. Eta value, quality, robustness, the history, the watch choose to use on eta is can't replace with sw for me.
Overall watch is not just about movement, there still many other thing to talk about.
All sifu don't shoot me, just my personal preference.

Ald decide which model to buy yet? ::) ??? ::)

Ald decide which model to buy yet? ::) ??? ::)
Hehe not yet made up my mind... However the bell & Ross 03-92 steel did gave me the best 1st impression and satisfaction when put onto my wrist..
But seen many ppl been stomping and whine about what is point of getting b&r due to their lack of history, other watches at same movement at lesser price, functionalibility etc etc did made me question myself whether it worth it.. after all it's almost 3k more expensive than the tag and 5k more expensive than the oris I posted earlier.
Btw, I did read that since 2014, when they discontinued the older version of br03-92 steel which uses the 2892-2, they then reintroduce it and are now using sw300 as their base movement due to the swatch group company restricted the movement outside their umbrella of companies.
Haih....... tough decision bro..

If limited with budget just go with oris or tag lo... sometimes i buy something that's no need any point or reason it just because i love. Maybe some people can't eat that grape than say the grape is sour gua... haha...even some don't even own one... or maybe some because personal preference brand but doesn't mean u can't have it, if u want to know exact br03-92 details can try call or email to them direct and ask they surely will give u correct answer. I try before haha. :Dancing_banana:

Yeah I think I'm going to do that.. but after if I find out if it is really sw300 I think I'll keep doing research again on diff between sw300 and 2892-2 hahaha!
Br03-92 is just a few hundred above my budget of 9k don't mind top up a few if b&r is my final decision.
Thank again @olkuu0205 for ur valuable input :)

Found out on some international b&r club forum and few review website said only 03 heritage & 03 ceramic few line is contains sw-300 movement that u talk about...the one u wearing 03-92 steel model is still using high grade ETA 2892..

I wonder how many of those whom whined needlessly about the ETA and Selitta movements, have actually seen the movements in person? These are workhorses, very robust and dependable. Ditto Seiko and Miyota. My Dad used to service these movements, and they were easy to service and last for long. If the design speaks to you, just get it, mate.

Some pictures of the watches that I have had along this horological journey sporting the typical ETA/Selitta/Ronda Swiss movements in the order of brands as per your mention i.e. Oris, Ball, Tag, and B&R. All were very dependable watches and worth the purchases. Choose yours based on what you like, and do treat us with the pictures thereafter

Wow @D'Andy very nice collection u got there.. I think I actually prefers and prioritized those watches that have their own unique design that give themself an identify to their brand... eg: Bell & Ross Square design, Panerai with their thin squarish case, ball EHC and graham with their patented crown etc etc..
Ofcourse, it is a bonus if they comes with a good movement..

These are my Ball EHC. Their robust and distinctive casing is easily spotted from afar.
-
Ive got one of each
Ball hydrocarbon Spacemaster Orbital II
Oris Carlos Coste Cenote
Tag Grand Carrera RS titanium
although these are different to the ones you are looking at they all have thier ups and downs
Ball- built like a tank and very underrated in the industry, fantastic illumination, big wrist presence... horrific resale!
Oris- very well built but ive had quality issues(cosmetic) with 2 that ive bought over the years, unique design that is usually noticeable as an oris, will loose money if you buy retail
Tag-more mainstream, well built and excellent quality control, unfortunately the market is flooded with them and makes resale poor,so many designs that look like other brands that they are not as unique, in saying that can be bought for excellent prices and available in almost every country
It all comes down to what YOU like and what gets your attention when you put it on.......
-
Personally, all wouldn't have much resale value but keeping a Ball as collection would be nice :)
-
Im not able to share or advise further for both model as im still new in the lane.. still in learning progress :)
I can say oris is good, i love oris aquis date.. and the same thing happened to me last time when choosing tag or oris..
Sorry if im not answering your question

Buy none of those. Only buy brands with in-house movements.....not those overpriced watches with USD100 ETA or Sellita movements. Then again its just me.

Any suggestion as to decent watches with in-house movement that's on the same budget with TS?

ORIS! Great affordable luxury timepiece.

For design I will vote for tag heuer.
My ranking as below:
1. Tag
2. Oris
3. Ball
-
Bud. Get a Rolex 6694 or 1601 instead. You are around that price range plus or minus a bit.

got your b&r already bro? just pick whatever that appeals u the most. i would say the movement is not the priority as the design/ appearance is more important as u gonna see it everyday, just my point of view tho
-
For me Oris is an honest, still independent watch company (ok Ball is also independent) which does not pretend to be something it is not (I'm looking at you TAG).
They make great, everyday watches with a very good value to us their customers (still waiting to try the new ChronOris they showed at Baselworld this year).
They have my vote at this price range.
-
Ball gets my vote.
-
Tag Heuer caliber 16 chronograph is what I've. Design wise it appeals the most. But again it's personal.
