planning to buy a watch for dad..he's not that into watches but his birthday is coming up and thinking of purchasing him a new beater!so here's some of the criteria:
- budget will be around rm2k-rm4k
- preferably swiss automatic
- good legibility (bcuz dad's having a hard time reading small stuffs nowadays)
- simple,elegant and classic look
- 3 handed watch should suffice..he doesnt need all the fancy chrono functions..but GMT would be nice since he travels a lot
any suggestions?the only one that came up into my mind was a few watches from Ball like the fireman II :/

Hi, my 2 cents...
In that price range, I think some of the Hamiltons Jazzmaster have big and clear dials, and very gentlemanly for someone your dad's age. The other Swiss that comes to mind is one of the Oris Arteliers/Classic Date or more sporty the TT3 or Divers TT1 GMT
My choice would be a Sinn 556..but its German ;D
If you want legibility, nothing beats a flieger / pilot style dial in my opinion....
Hope this helps a bit

thanks for the reply!
my dad has the oris classic date ,so atelier is a no no i guess.my dad is a doctor, and i dont think he's into divers or too sporty watches..so the TT3 is a no no..by the sinn 556 is sexy! and i think its cool~ thanks :Dancing_banana:

My vote is to this, should be able to get for 4k.
If not then get the leather strap version.

hows the lume on the sinn btw??
-
Hi MS
I find the lume on my Sinn to be excellent, holds up all night after being charged.
I think they are really easy to read at glance, even the chrono versions. And they look not as harsh or ""hardcore" than the other "instrument" watches out there. I guess this would be important for ppl with not so good eyesight...

u can also chck out epos gent day-date series, its around 2.5k and can hv eta2834-2 engine, it got big day display n clean clear dial, quite worth of money.

Sinn 656 and 657 are very robust and handsome watches. Highly legible but the lume is nothing compared to a Seiko or a Panerai. But the white on black makes it fairly clear even with the not so bright lume in the dark.

Built like a tank, bombproof and can be used as a knuckleduster if needed. on the downside it could be quite heavy if your father is not used to the weight.
my 857s saying hello :D

saw the Ball aviator GMT..such a beaut! but i think i have to cross that out of the list..looks really rugged..i dont want my dad to suddenly strap on a young guy's watch..hahah but the sinn is definitely a looker ;) but one gripe though..since my dad is not really into watchmaking..,the name 'sinn' might be a bit..well...'strong' haha dunno what to describe the feeling when a lay man gets a sinn watch for a gift..he must be like huh sinn??wth??..oo german brand ah..like BMW arh?haha

maybe this will fit your requirement, but not easily found, less than 2k.
Tissot Visodate (few variants: Silver/Black dial with SS case / Black Dial with gilt pvd coating case)

IIRC Visiodate didnt come with rose gold case but S/S case with gold alike coating
-
sorry.. my bad... it is gilt PVD, not rosegold.

I would suggest Longines for your dad. I bought a classic two tone for my dad too. It's definitely with in your budget. :)
-
Another suggestion if u want 2 look at Ball- I was looking at an old (2-3 yrs) Ball brochure and saw the pulsemeter models. Might be good since ur dad is a doctor. I hv not seen it in person n hv no idea of the price. Perhaps u can check the Ball website.
