Title: Is this a fake Carrera?
Post by: netnoob77 on November 03, 2010, 09:51:07 PM
Hi... am new to this forum.. Would like to seek the assistance of the watch sifus here. I recently won an auction on ebay for a Tag Heuer Carrera.. However, I am suspecting that it may be a fake.. Does it look like a replica?

Appreciate your thoughts.. Thanks.

can't really tell, i've got the same watch.
all i can tell u is what is different from mine.
my chrono hand isnt red.
my seconds subdial doesnt have any marking on it, ie, a 30s, 60s mark on it.
the disk on yours looks like its gold, mine isnt.
all these could just be because its a different model.
i cant comment much on the bracelet, as i have a leather strap. but the clasps design is different from mine.
mine doenst have the word tag heuer on it, only the logo.

the bezel seems badly damaged. or is there a plastic cover?
and I've bought mine from an AD in the UK.
good luck

Pics are too dark.
I believe it's real. However, I never buy watches from website, it's too risky.

After scrutinizing the photos, I am quite convinced that it's the replica. The movement at the back looks different from an actual tag. Also, the screws are blue.

I did a search on ebay and found another listing with the exact same photos but from another seller in Malaysia
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TAG-Carrera-Heuer-Hot-Calibre-16-Automatic-Chronograph-/220688369938?pt=AU_PensWritingItems&hash=item33620d4912

Listing contents very similar, thus, those guys must be related.

I wrote to the seller to explain himself... and this morning, he sent a request to cancel the auction.

I will be reporting him to ebay. This sort of scum gives Malaysian a bad name.

Always buy the seller. Seller with such a low number of feedback albeit 100% is always a BIG NO-NO. By the way, have you made the payment?

Well done netnoob77. You did a good research.

From my perspective the watch might be replica. What makes me feel some fraud here is due to the same pictures & the description from the different seller. So... don't buy it!  :HammerHead:

Generally,if the pics are blurred and half heartedly taken, means they have something to hide.
Moreover,only 8 feedback?

Thanks for sharing. Nope, I hadn't paid this guy. Actually, one of the reasons why I bidded on his item despite his low feedback was because he is situated in Malaysia and I intended to have the watch checked by an AD before paying for it. However, he has been evading my mails and this morning, he put in a request to Ebay to cancel the transaction. I suppose he was hoping that the auction winner was someone from another country and he can try to pull a fast one.

I am also guessing he is now worried that he would be found out and all his "related" ebay accounts be revealed.

I have written to Ebay and hopefully his accounts get banned soon. Bloody conman.  :Scolding:

It's good that you managed to find him/her out.

I have never bought and would never buy if the listing comes with such pictures. The best example of a good listing is as shown below, where the pix has close-ups of all the angles. Jxxxxhi has got a very good reputation amongst Omega WIS.

If I really want to buy the watch, I would ask a lot of questions until I'm satisfied. The golden rule is, if you're in doubt, go away. It's better to err on the side of caution.

You should have done all the research before bidding on it.

Yah, I should have but I got to know about the auction when it was about to end. Since the photos were not very clear, I popped him a note to ask him whether there were any scratches on the dial and crystal and he replied none. However, it started smelling fishy when he ignored my request to meet up.. as well as my request for the serial no.  ::)
