Title: Peculiar ???
Post by: mnazri.tan on September 04, 2016, 08:55:54 AM
Anyone had experience with such peculiar problem before?

This is my Seiko Superior SSA005K1 with slider ruler,it come with newer breed of Seiko movement the 4R37... The movement and its predecessor are well known for being reliable and robust... A good everyday beater for sure that need no introduction to fellow WIS here... But i would say it is quite accurate, and the second handa move smoothly.

I had the watch for 1 yrs plus before it suddenly went dead in early 2015... I did not send it for repair until recently... Previously i did ask the shop but they require the warranty card which i lost it somewhere... For that they said i have to pay for whatever repair done and they wanted to send it to Thong Shia... Not convinced, i keep it and only recently I send it to my old friend, a good watch repairer at Amcorp Mall (The pasar karat part)...so nothing peculiar up to this point

But what my friend found out make me wonder...He told me that my second hand bend downward and the hair spring (at the balance wheel) alse bend on one side.... As far as i remember it never actually fall or had any hard landing, but even so how could the second hand which is securely protected in the case behind the glass..bend such way???. If the hand experience any impact it would have hit the glass or case first (and with it some major scar surely visible)

Anyone had similar experience ? Wonder whether this is rare case or common to this model???

There's this urban legend that mentioned about one advantage that Hardlex crystal has over sapphire, the ability to flex ever so slightly without shattering. Since your watch has a bracelet and you did not see any impact mark on the case back, possible to speculate the watch fell dead centre of the Hardlex. This not also spread the impact evenly away from the impact point but effectively transfers the energy straight into the watch. Pure speculation but a possibility.
