That Mr. Li points out a very crucial point: "Practical"!

Its more of a passion and interest in Luxury watches. Not based on your wealth that makes you could afford high end expensive watches IMO. Spotted No. 1 Billionaire in the world Mr. Bill Gates wearing a Digital Casio. I have few friends who is not a billionaire and also not a wealthy person but keen enough to spend 100k on watches just because he love watches :)
Just my 0.02 ;)

Good point though from Mr. Li

Is about all about interest and the willingness to spend. His younger son wears Patek .

From a WIS standpoint, I admire those billionaires with rare / high end collection.
If you wear Casio / citizen, I see no difference (from WIS perspective) between this Li and any random Lee I meet on the street.

For practical purposes, Mr Li wears a practical daily beater. Who knows, he may has stocked up a few extra ordinary rare time pieces as his heirloom collection.
-
when they reached that level, wearing a Patek or a Casio makes no different to them, their sense of satisfaction no longer on buying or getting watches but instead, which company / land / island / aeroplane / rocket / spaceship / country to buy.

I heard from someone said a local millionaire why you so rich you ride a bicycle and
eat at local hawkers,/makmak store when you sons driving big cars n eat at 5 star hotel.
He said they have very rich father but I dont..

Mr. Li the multi billionaire wears a USD400 Seiko but the lady that works with Bloomberg wears a AP to interview him..haha...

IMHO that was a very practical assessment. I know a fellow Datuk whom told me point-blank that his watch was a high-end replica, when I complimented him about the watch. To him, watches ain't something that speak to him so he just wear whatever that his aides got for him. His interests were on cars and bikes, so that's where his spare monies go towards. But he knows that there were many others whom love watches, and I have seen him purchase Swiss pieces (including Rollies) at boutiques to be given as gifts to friends and associates.

You never know maybe Mr Li also owned some luxurious goods companies including watch maker

The man makes the watch... and not the other way round. On his wrist, that watch is better than a Patek.

Goes to show that each individual have something they will splurge on..
