mmm my dad wants to buy a watch for my younger bro,
i feel rolex and omega kinda obnoxious for a 18 year old,
what brand would you guys suggest
-
I guess is kinda premature for this age, montblanc, maurice or ball are fine though
-
Ball or Hamilton is a good choice for a 18yrs old though....
-
An extremely broad question.... perhaps some details on price range, his preference:dress/sport watch, etc. would help members to recommend...

teenager seiko can already la. what for buy luxury watch.
these kind of things have to earn own money buy only got meaning and syok..
-
well..it depends on why your dad wants to buy a watch for him? If for some reason he thinks your brother deserves it..i don't c why a rolex/omega should be left out of the picture.
A rolex OP or explorer 1..or moonwatch won't be too 'high profile' n certainly is suitable

I concur on the point raised by Rolexer. Nothing wrong in getting a Rolex or Omega even at 18 years old. Of course at 18, people tend to be more careless. If your dad wants to reward him with one and he feels your brother is responsible enough to own one, then by all means he should go ahead and buy one.

IWC pilot......... Its new....

How about an Apple Watch?
-
If no Rolex or Omega - For me I'd go Tudor.
Black Bay Black.
But lets be realistic - and being realistic means getting a Rolex submariner. That IMO is the standard, nothing beats that in its price range.

My dad bought me a rolex explorer II when I was 18.

Agree with you +1
Children these days too pampered la. They do a little bit and their parents reward them like they deserve it.
Seiko SKX007 as a good starting beater watch is more than enough (and that's over 1k already).
My first watch when I was 16 was a rm150 Casio. That was a while back tho.. My first watch purchase when I was 23 was an invicta sub homage at rm290. Lol.

Patek would be a good choice so your bro merely look after it for the next generation

Got to agree with this guy!

I really don't mind to look after it for the next generation if I was given one by my dad....;D ;D
-
i think Rolex is fine. it's sport watch, as long as not those two tone. :Laughing_on_floor:
-
how i wish i had a brother like you ;D
i feel for a 18 yr old, best to start with a mid range watch. Ball, Tissot, Tag etc
that my 2 cents

Hahahaha
"You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it so your next generation can sell it on MWF"
=D

Great start would be with Panerai or tag if if you want a step backwards
-
Me at 18 not wearing any watch. ;D
My graduation gift at 21 was a Seiko from my mum!
Now I bought a Batman to keep in the safe, 15 years later for my son's 18th birthday.

Hahaha... if he tell me he don't like, that gonna be mine!
-
The next generation will probably sell off the Patek and buy a used VW Golf GTI with some change left to buy an Apple watch
-
i can keep my golf for him

Tag +3
-
the crowd seems to be in favor of a tag, is longines really perceived to be for the more matured audience?
-
My opinion is whatever watch your budget can get and your son / bro likes is the best one. I was very happy when I got my Seiko during my graduation. Nothing can beat it.
-
A smart watch would just be fine, that what his generation is into
-
from my humble opinion it depends on the intention of the father (who is buying) and the character of the one receiving. I think anything above RM2k is a little too much (my personal opinion).
However, i take note that watches are character building tool as well. It can build up one maturity and tendency to value this time telling tool and the art of it being produced. Being a father, i started to sense my son's started to develop interest in watches and both my son and daughter now started to develop good habit of arranging their watches at a dedicated place when its not in use. In short, they started to value their watches although the watches are inexpensive.
So, to decide whether should it be a Rolex, or a Tag or a AP RO or an Apple watch or anything under the sky, probably the two mentioned characteristic is to be considered should money is not the issue. In my cases, i don't mind receiving anything from my ada and would try my best to just treasure it even it is just a fake Rolex.
