Went to wingwah ss14 today n was told by the salesgirl Rolex increased their prices again 4 days ago. This is on top of the price increase in October. Can anyone verify this?
-
Wow really? I would be curious about this too. I hope its not true since im on rolex's waiting list. If its true then this would be the 2nd time the price increase while im on the waiting list! :shocked1:
-
Can see their price is super high...am checking with other retailer on the price increase
-
omg.. again? I remememred it was increased twice this year
-
That shop always tell you price increase to make you buy. Last time they told me pam 000 was a collectors item and discontinued. All BS. I already blacklisted that shop personally.
-
this watch shop all the pre-owned watches far higher than other pre-owned shop in malaysia. But then price increase is nothing surprise, since ringgit keep weak.
-
Wah...Rolex increase price again ahh?....i heard that Louis Vuitton also increases their price twice this year from sales personnel last week when i was there to buy a present for my wife birthday... :Startled:
-
Seems like now pre-owned in malaysia not cheap compared to sg.

wow!!! no kidding with the new prices. sub price has risen from rm18k in a period of 7 years partly because of new material used in the watch and hasten inflation and RM depreciation.

Better not wait any longer , at least can sleep well :Laughing_on_floor:

Waiting to buy a rolex is always pointless, unless you have some other reason than waiting price drop/discount. Now or never!

Just park your FD to Rolex instead of the bank.
-
with the massive depreciation of RM, I am not surprised.
-
When the RM goes up again, will Rolex prices come down? I think not. In fact can any formers here with decades of experience with Rolex tell us through the decades, whatever the state of the Malaysian economy, has Rolex prices ever dropped? Or only up and up?

Preown watch shop owner will be very happy to see this comment :Laughing_on_floor:

How much of this will spill over into the pre-owned market? Maybe watches are a good investment ;D

IMHO that's only limited to Rolex n PP

Sometimes this RM currency depreciation is an excuse for pre-own shop vendors to increase their price wantonly. Recently a 2nd Hand Shop wanted to sell a 12 year old Submariner at RM18k. He said "if you come 1 month earlier it was RM16k, but now because of the Ringgit depreciation the price is RM18k." Let's do the math..... RM2k / RM16k = 12.5% increase in price. Did our Ringgit drop by 12.5% in one month?
Back to Rolex being an investment. I am quite a newbie so no real experience flipping watches. But from researching on the price the last few months, I see that the 2nd hand sale price is only close to what the owner paid for it MRSP 10 years ago (maybe 80% of MRSP price?). Only VERY RARELY that the Owner can recoup the original MRSP price or make a small profit (I am only generalising. Of course there will be exceptions. And I am not talkig about vintage pieces here).
So how can that be a GOOD Investment? At best, you can say that you have worn and enjoyed a rolex for 10 years for free or for a very small sum of money (some call it a rental for 10 years). If you put RM18k into FD 10 years ago, now you have close to RM24k? (for easy calculation I did not compound the interest). So your loss is actually the 2nd hand sales depreciation amount + loss of FD interest.
But of course that is better than other items depreciating to next to nothing for eg handphones, cars, etc.
But if you decide to buy another new Rolex, the sales proceeds of the earlier watch will only help a little towards payment of your new rolex cause the new prices have skyrocketed. So it begins all over again. LOL!!
So don't wait to buy. Buy it now! and forget about it being an investment. I wonder if one day the Rolex Bubble would burst? Just like ArchieLuxury claims in one of his youtube videos.

I agree with kopy2
I think you buy a watch because you appreciate them...price increase or not, gain or loss is secondary.
If you want to invest and make money, there's always the stock market..or let the professional trade and buy into a mutual fund ;D
-
Watches is not an investment to me. I treat it as a hobby and hobby usually cost money. However if you choose wisely you can enjoy the thing you like with just minimal loss and resale it to fund for another upgrade. Hardcore collector will not sell those.
-
RM18k over 7 years.... hmmm
-
What if the price incline due to decline of ringgit itself? If u want to make watch as investment mybe need other parameter. Based on short term and falling of our economy i dont think so. But different people appretiate things differently, mybe a collector would pay more. That depends

Investment grade watches
Only limited to vintage piece of Rolex Patek and few other brands
And their specific rare models only
So all modern watches are
Not rare
Meaning with money you can always find
And it's produced in mass
But to buy an Rolex to wear
After 10 yrs u wear u still get to sell it higher than ur purchase price
Especially u like watches
What else u want?
