Title: New to watches - Where to buy actually?
Post by: faintchester on July 25, 2015, 11:11:51 AM
Hi guys, I'm a newb to watches.
Wanna get an automatic below 1.5K, have Citi and Maybank cards, not sure which retail shop to go to.
Let's say goes by instalment, any recommendation? TyTy!

*People saying Seiko and Orient are best for this tier, might be getting one of these.

Yes, agree...buy seiko prospex or diver series..... You could also consider tissot as an alternative

I think you're starting the watch collection hobby in the wrong footing. Best to have a target watch instead of a target amount to spent. Also, using instalment by credit card is not the way to go.

Hi, it's actually not for collection, it's for daily use. Can't afford to pay so much at one time, but don't worry, I am a good pay master. Just wanted to know which shop is the most genuine one so I can shop freely. Sometimes I think these products are like diamond, margin very high, sometimes discount can go up to 50% - 70%.

With your budget , Seiko and orient - thumbs up from me. But... Tissot also possible if u up your budget a bit. If u have no preference for mechanical watch, then go quartz as u wish, but generally I dont agree in spending more than 1k on quartz watch (ahem except GS). Buy what u will wear.. Save more money, then buy something better.

I guess the best is to do your rounds and look for bargains. Since you don't know any watch shops, the same is also true as the traders don't know you as well. Only with relationship would you be able to be offered special deals.

It's all about networking.

Saw the Orient Sun & Moon is quite nice. It's within your budget. Saw shops selling Orient in Pavillion, Sg Wang and 1U. Seiko has some nice ones too like the cocktail but these are more dressy. Depends on what you prefer for daily wear.

Good luck hunting!

Hello guys, need your opinions here. I found a tonneau-shaped Tissot Porto (if im not mistaken) and its retailed at 1.2K. My questions are:
1) is this a good tissot ? What year it was born? I couldn't find any specific infos abt it on the web but once i came across an article saying that it's a 2004 model. Is this true ?
2) is this a good bargain for this specific tissot model ? Price wise ?
3) i fell in love with tonneau-shaped watches but most are of it are overpriced. Any other recommendations?

Im new to this so thanks for reading and good day !
