Anybody into good quality headphones?
I just bought the Sennheiser HD700 today to complement my Beyerdynamic DT880 premium....
Currently on 'burn-in' mode....looking forward to hear the 'sanitised' burnt in sound from the HD700 after at least a month ....and how it pares against my reliable partner for years, the DT880.... Anyway, Here are some pics.....

Congratulation on that.
I just bought AKG K167 Tiesto 2 weeks ago. I wouldn't consider it as a decent headphone but yeah it was better than a lot of so called branded headphones out there especially B***s by D** and the price also quite good. It was a big jump for me as I only use Audio Technica earphone last time which cost around RM200 and most important is this AKG suit my need after I tried a lot of other High Quality headphones at Jaben SS15. ;)
Now it still undergoing 'burn in' and I use DAC with it. Thanks to my audiophile friend made me started to spend a lot of money in audio stuff. And the downside of using great quality headphone/earphone is I couldn't withstand a normal headphone/earphone with poor sound quality and also all my music have to be lossless quality... A normal 320kbps audio file wouldn't be good enough for me because a good headphone can bring out all the flaws LOL. Anyway I'm still a newbie in the audio things. :)

I tried the HD800, HD700 and HD650 at the head office. It blew my ears off and the HD800 price blew my mind away hahaha

I'm actually looking for a pair of decent cans. I have sold off my entire sound system since I'm expecting baby number two in two months. I replaced my surround speakers, stereo speakers, two amps and cables and opted for the Yamaha YSP 4300 sound bar as a replacement ????. While it is sufficient for watching most movies, it is a far cry from a proper component system to listen to music.
What I'm left with is my headphone amp paired with my trusty old Shure SE530 in ears. To top it all off, I have to listen to my music off my phone ????. No more CD player as well...only a blu ray player left. The only consolation is, my headphone amp has a built in DAC which pairs with an app on my phone to up sample my music.
So the search begins for a proper pair of headphones to quench my thirst for better sounding music with what little that I have. Do let us know how your headphones sound after you have broken it in...
In the meantime, can any sifus out there recommend a decent pair of headphones? I have auditioned a few senheisers and they seem to be best so far.

Not sifu but a newbie here so I couldn't help in this. If you stay at KL or Selangor, you can pay a visit to Jaben at SS15. It is a good place for audiophile, similar like MWF is a heaven for watch enthusiast in Malaysia. :)

Yeah, i have been to Jaben a few times before.... Agree with you that's one of the best place to listen to varieties of good headphones.....
Good stuffs man.....it must have cost you a fortune buying all those DAC and i reckon you also have the tube amp to power the headphone, judging by the fact that you have audiophile circle of friends to continuously poison you.....
Yeah i am not an expert either in audiophile fora!

Exactly! The price of hd800 really scares me off! Torn between the legendary hd650 or hd700 but eventually fork out a few extra bucks to settle in the middle.....the only reasons i bought the hd700 instead of hd650 are because i thought the vocal is more pronounced in hd700 and i find it more comfortable compared to hd650.....but i dislike the design of hd700 and hd800.....

Yes, i fully agree....jaben is the place to go and molest good headphones in Malaysia....whether or not you buy the headphone there is another story....
If you are into jazz and classical music try out the usual suspect depending on the price range: for budget goldring dr150 is good (at least to my ear), for middle range: try the grado sr325, sennheiser hd600 and beyerdynamic dt880 250ohm or dt990 premium..... And if high end go for sennheiser hd800 or beyer T1..... If you dislike beyer or senn, AKG has some good cans too!
But whichever headphones you choose, make sure what you would like to use it with....if your source is the portable devices like handphone or mp3 player, you would need a good amp to drive headphones with above 100ohms impedance.... Hd650 or hd600 - 300 ohms, beyer dt880 premium has three choices - 32, 250 or 600 ohms, hd700 -150ohms..... And to sweeten the deal like bro geneve said buy DAC...... But i am sure you know this already.....

Hahaha yeah... Good place to molest headphones and gain knowledge in audio things.
Luckily my audiophile friend is my best friend, he passed his DAC to me for free otherwise it would cost me a bomb! ;D
I'm not sure about the tube amp thing, still way off a newbie. Later I will check whether it comes together with the stuff that my friend passed to me. Cheers ;)
