Title: Watches with no papers
Post by: contender on June 21, 2015, 09:53:53 PM
When I look at the classified here at MWF here notice there are watches with box only no papers .... I wonder are they "stolen" watches ? ;D

How could you still have the rolex box but no cert ? aren't they in the box ??

Not to offend anyone, but do you expect everyone will keep it? Or maybe they lost it when they move to a new house? Many factors can lead to this... I have few watches which I don't even remember where I put the certificates. And also we can purchase box but not the certificate.

I have come across dudes who have 10-20 watches and this happens to them. Some of them separate the box and the certs cause your safety deposit box is not huge yeah so you only put in the real important and thin stuff like the warranty card and documents while box is kept at home. So overtime they forgot where it went maybe they have many safety deposit box.

If you don't feel comfortable best don't buy preown without box and document. But if you want a better deal then this incompleteness can get you some discount but be sure you know your stuff and do more due diligence.

Some people with too many watches just throw the box away. Does not affect the price that much as boxes can always be bought. Personally, warranty papers are only useful if they're still valid because I fail to see the use of expired warranty papers.

Just to add on another factor which gamblers may pawn their watch to ah long, hence no box & paper as well

or simply for the fact that you can't wear the box and papers. some ppl are so particular with completenesss or perfection, etc and even a simple scratch also make big fuss...others just want to wear and enjoy the watch for what they are. no right or wrong though...just idiosyncrasies and perhaps even foibles.

I prefer complete set for modern pieces.

also there are dealers who bring in alot of pieces, and to save on shipping costs usually ship them with just the watch only...and wherever possible necessary papers tho not always the case.
and as mentioned already, boxes can always be bought seperately...hence u just get watch + box :P

I was told if you want to 'paper-ed' the watch, go get it serviced in the Authorised Service Center.  Is it true?

Recently i happened to hv a fren whom brother in law passed away n now helping his sis in law to dispose his few watches with no papers.the late owned AP RO bought in yr 2003 for rm30k..even without papers n bit scratchy..managed to let go at 20k...

Some people dont care to keep complete papers since they hv no intention to sale in future...wear till drop!!

Paper is not useful after warranty lapsed

Some collector prefer complete set for collection
But some don't really care

Many just worry without paper can be fake or stolen watch but paper also can be fake, thief can also steal paper together.

Important is the watch is genuine n u buy from who?

If can't differentiate fake, bring some one can, otherwise go to service center.
If u want to buy a watch from ppl u don't trust then record his ID or keep those messages on negotiation
If police catch u one day then u can show that u bought from some 1... A bonafide buyer

If I been offered AP RO at rm20k, I don't care it hv paper or not
If I been offered a pam below rm10k I also don't care
Save the money for straps
Keep box n papers no use, keep strap can change

Nice, many good info and things we can learn from this thread.
This is how the forum should work instead of Hi and sell watch.

This is very subjective. If u been offer a RM 005 without box and cert but RM 25k cheaper compare to full set, would u go for it or you rather spend more to get a complete set?  :D

As mentioned by other the majority, i would buy without box and cert if i know the seller personally and know for sure he is trustworthy.....if my brother is selling authentic rm005 rm25k cheaper without box and cert,i would buy it without any hesitation....

So if buy watches with full box & papers oso can possibly be err not-authentic.. Apart from buying the seller, can do at the distributor or service centre for verification? Or is it malaysiabolehland, that oso can be adjusted and possibly leave room for errr not-authentic?
