Pam000 for rm17k is cheap. Normally i would come across shops that sells them at rm18k. Time to time you'll be able to spot a used one for rm15k in the forum.

If you want a classic Pam model. Look at Pam 111 instead of 000.

Pam000 is too plain for me and the PAM111 features a see through back and sub seconds. Also the price difference is very minimal between 000 and 111. I sold my 111 earlier last year and I am regretting it now. It's a beautiful watch and has very strong Panerai DNA.

Edit : if you like the minimalist look of the PAM000, go for PAM112 which is very similar but with a see though back. The see through back makes it easier to check the authenticity of the watch. The price difference between the 000 and 112 is also very minimal.

If you want a PAM with DNA, go 0. Zero is hero among collectors of PAM. If you like the register at 9, then go 111. Either way, you will get a great watch with great history.

Additionally, most purist pam collectors actually prefer solid case back as compared to display back.

And as usual, buy the seller.

There is another shop in Weld.

Can bring the watch to Panerai Service Center to check if you are worried.  If you buy from a reliable seller you should be fine not from ebay or someone you dont know or some shop which have only a few watch or a new setup.

For a quick model guide but not the latest you can check this out !

Tumpang a bit.

Does it matter for Panerai lovers to go for in-house movement? Is OP XI caliber ETA-based and got modified by Panerai?

Personally,  while it seems abit outrageous to pay huge $ on an ETA movement; but come to think about it, their in house movement is too new and subject to alot of future improvements. ETA is a proven movement especially when servicing and maintenance is of concern.

One wild prediction is that the ETA especially on the base models might be a saught after collectors model in the future as they've discontinued 3rd party movements.

Disclaimer. I end up buying the PAM388 when i was deliberating over PAM000 and PAM388 for my first panerai as the PAM388 is just too damn beautiful.

Most of the Panerai watches were ETA movement for a long long time until this last couple of year where they slowly change to their new inhouse movement with a newer higher pricing. Did it slow the sales of the other models ? Not that I am aware off.

By the way when you buy the watch you see the watch or you see the movement ? So for me it's the design of the watch first and movement secondary or I dont really care. Cause when you sell later the price if not affected by the movement type. Its the model and watch design.

If you feel strongly about movement then you stick with watches with strong inhouse movement heritage like JLC & GP just to name a few. Dont even look at Panerai.

Panerai 000 is a good start. From there you will start to get poisoned by all the straps and fall deeper into the Panerai's deep pit ! hahahaha.. maybe then you know what you love most. Pam 000 is very sought after in second hand market so flipping is not difficult ! welcome to the pam club !

I would recommend buying the PAM000 new if it is your first watch. There is nothing more exciting than buying a brand new watch. Also, the PAM000 has excellent value retention so you are not getting much savings buying it used.

Hour Glass at the Gardens might have some PAM zeroes.

I may be wrong as I am just assuming. I am not actively shopping around for a Panerai at the moment. I didn't know that the waiting list is 1.5 years. :o

I bought my PAM111 a few years ago. I was contemplating on either 111 or 000 and went with a 111 due to the display caseback (I am a sucker for display backs as you can see from my collection) and the register at 9.

I never knew 000 were so popular. I am not a Panerist so my views are more of a layman' view on Panerai.

Hi, I'm a proud owner of PAM005. As I understand, PAM000 & PAM005 are kinda popular for entry level with basic design + the OP logo. That is my personal preference for Marina. For Radiomir, I will go for PAM292 which in full ceramic, and if you want to look more muscular, go for Submersible PAM024/025 for basic model (actually any of Submersible models will make me drooling.. especially with the price)

As for xxxx in Sunway Giza. Dealt few times there, it is a recommended as well as reputable shop. Hope my 2 cents help

When I first set my mind upon a PAM, I wanted to get a the 0 but with pure luck, landed with a 390 at retail price with no mark up.

I will recommend the 0 or 005

Tumpang a bit.

Does it matter for Panerai lovers to go for in-house movement? Is OP XI caliber ETA-based and got modified by Panerai?

yes.
heavily modified

18,000 bph to 21,600 bph
new bridges
bridges decorated with geneva stripe
bridges beveled
base plate perlaged
blued screw
rodhium plated
etc

to admire the movement and sandwich dial
you may go for pam112

pam112 / 111 movement also added
swan neck regulator

pam111 or pam 005 also come with cosc cert

you wont go wrong with either of those qouted, just follow your taste, not others
you wear it....

personally i prefer PAM 372 if you look for luminor
its fitted in 1950 47mm case, cushion case always appeals to me

and

some basic radiormir

Wow.. interesting details.

So if a Rolex guy wants to buy just ONE Panerai (max case size not more than 44mm), which one would it be? The 112?

Thanks!

I struggle a bit when I bought my Panerai watch because I feel their design between models are very similar.
Except when you decide Luminor vs Radiomir then it's quite different because of the shape. When you go into the individual categories say Luminor you need to determine which of this feature is important to you:

- With Seconds or Without Seconds
- Date or without date
- Sandwich Dial or Non Sandwich Dial
- Exposed Caseback or Unexposed
- Power Reserve 56h, 3day, 8 day or 10 day
- Steel, Ceramic, Composite case material
- In house or ETA Based Movement

This helped me narrow my options easier. Otherwise on facial look they look very similar to me.

- With Seconds or Without Seconds
first pam can go for seconds
- Date or without date
Wear for daily or weekend?
- Sandwich Dial or Non Sandwich Dial
Modern or vintage
- Exposed Caseback or Unexposed
Modern for exhibition case back or vintage for solid case back
- Power Reserve 56h, 3day, 8 day or 10 day
Daily go for semi-auto or weekend go for handwound
- Steel, Ceramic, Composite case material
ss is always evergreen, ceramic/composite must wear with care
- In house or ETA Based Movement
Modern or vintage

Just my 2 cents, hope it makes sense

After reading the thread, I think the members have given very good advice.

The only think I would like to add is that try out the Panerai you are going to buy to see how it fits and feels and if you are comfortable with the weight.

I personally have had 3 Panerais - Pam 90, 512 & 392. The Pam 90 i sold as I found it uncomfortable to wear for long hours. The Pam 392 I feel the same (though it has a transparent case back and is 42mm), as it wears real high on the wrist. Might sell this and buy the Pam 564 as its manual winding and titanium (which makes it really light).

The Pam 512 I absolutely love it. It's 42mm and fits really well on the wrist and is also very light. The only think is that its a 1940's style Pam and looks more like a formal watch which I like.

I hope this post is of some use to the other members.

I'm a Rolex guy and did bought a 112. Sold it as I find it uncomfortable to wear.. Too top heavy but that may be mostly due to my small wrist (6.5"). On the positive side, I do like the sandwich dial and the minimalist design plus all the different straps you can put on.

Differenty people buy for different reasons. Eventually it all boils down to your objective: buying the look, mechanism, resale value, feel (comfort).

Only Panerai I had before was PAM512. Extremely comfortable with the wear, as it sits very well on my wrist. Look is classic, simple but elegant. With an inhouse mechanism - you can't go wrong with its resale value.

Only thing that I can't get used to is the manual winding mechanism...having to wind it every two days or so can be quite a pain, though some may find this to be extremely satisfying.
