A wrist shot.

Another shot together with the Seiko.

A brief review & comparison after 1 day of wearing.

It wears rather light compared to the Astron due to the composite use of black DLC steel and resin materials. Built quality is definitely more premium. Details are finer and much better executed than the run of the mill G-Shocks. Size wise is much bigger than the Astron - 56mm vs 48mm, though you can't really notice it in the photo above.

Functions wise, definitely better than the Astron as it has stopwatch, timer and alarm. Though the stopwatch is kinda funny due to the limit of maximum 24 minutes as it uses the 24hr sub dial for minute tracking when in stopwatch mode. Also it can sync with radio wave which I cannot test as it is not available here. On the other hand the Astron is purely GPS sync only. Its first time and position sync took around 9 minutes as it downloaded leap second data which is available on every 1 June and 1 Dec. Subsequent sync took less than a minute.

It also has auto DST (daylight saving time) function where it sets the daylight saving time based on location and DST rules of that location/country whereas the Astron it is done manually.

Both has auto sync function. The Astron will perform it once a day, when the first time it senses strong adequate light for the day, it will sync. Whereas the G-Shock will perform sync at set time. A radio wave sync between 12-5am and from 6-10m it will try a GPS sync. Whichever is successful will be taken as the correct time for the day.

So far, the G-Shock seems more advanced in most respect. However, I like that on the Astron, information are presented much more clearer. It has indicator for power reserve while the G-shock needs to perform button press and power reserve is shown by the second hand position which tell you either full or low and nothing in between.  BTW, both are solar powered. Also the last successful sync info on the Astron can be read off and understood as whether a time sync is done or both time and position sync is done whereas the G-Shock will only indicate whether "Yes" or "No" only. Both will tell you your time zone/location via a button press but the G-Shock has a little dial/indicator which also show you briefly you lattitude.

Both are great watches. The G-Shock is more rugged, casual and definitely give a sense of presence due to its size - hence its nickname the "Beast". Astron is unique due to its dome shaped crystal and special dial with print of the world map on its solar panel.
