Cool project. I would certainly be interested in getting one if the price does not cost me an arm or a leg.
Anyway my personal preference would be:

i) ETA movement rather than Miyota.
ii) Cushion case rather than round.
iii) Lug to lug should not be more than 50mm to better Asian wrists.

The military hands look cool. Any helium release valve?
Any price estimate at the moment?

i also prefer eta 2824-2. so to get eta 2824-2, watch got to send to swiss to assemble, so it is swiss made then otherwise we cant get the movement.

i think cushion will look good.... thats why enzo, shaumberg, ocean7.... all who use the case selling well...
this enzo sold out in very short time... and still ppl looking for it in secondary market now... i was too lucky to have it from enzo free

but we must redesign the crown, dial and hand.... to make it a unique piece!

this cushion case has a short little curve lug... so the 42mm enzo around 48mm lug to lug
the 44mm around 50mm lug to lug....

yes.... you will have helium excapement valve...

if miyolta movement is use... then rm1.2k maybe
if using eta 2824-2 cmovement, price could be around rm2k plus

anyone know any local ppl can got good cnc machine? and can cut out the case? dlc?
pls recommend.... then we can keep the cost low!

yenfoolun, you have that for free?? Lucky you!!! Tell us your trick :D

Nice watch you got there!

I too prefer ETA movement, around 44mm case (i'm so into panerai now and 44mm is the smallest size to me  :P ), if possible, have the diver marking bezel :)

but honestly, how do you want to move this project a head? Do we have to buy all 100case from your friend? roughly what's the cost like?

How about a project for a custom-made panerai-like?? A PVD case, left handle crown, sandwich and 2 hands...kekekekek

cheers!

Sounds reasonable for a one off 100 piece LE watch.

Sorry. I don't know anyone with a cnc machine. Anybody else here who has the right contacts?

looks good..similar to a seiko mm...but the crown guard totally not right...can we do a 'Marathon' type of crown guard..
Title: Re: project 1000m dive watch
Post by: Scott C. on February 25, 2009, 01:55:34 PM
Cool! How about this:-

1) No crown guard...
2) the HV at 2 oclock?
3) No wording on the dial?
4) No date and max the marker?

also, the lug is a bit weird..

Just my opinion :)
Title: Re: project 1000m dive watch
Post by: chrisyen on February 25, 2009, 02:21:17 PM
yes... decided to take out the crown guard unless have better looking 1...
escapement will not look good at 2... even move crown at 3 to 4.... it proven... most watch with that design
not selling well.... look at shaumburg new 2000m gmt....

i also prefer no wording on dial.... put the professional automatic 1000m all at the case back
date... still considering
yeah man.... max the marker to have more lume!

lug is come with this case.... to have the vintage look.... also to make it more wearable.... (shorter in overall)
50mm from lug to lug.... otherwise alot of our friend cant wear!
but believe me... it will look better in real...

bezel? any commend?
what about less index? maybe only diamond, 15, 30 and 45!

Yes to less Index ...with small wording of 15,30 & 45
Title: Re: project 1000m dive watch
Post by: chrisyen on February 25, 2009, 09:11:25 PM
yes... the bezel side should look like seiko samurai instead of ennebi
Title: Re: project 1000m dive watch
Post by: Scott C. on February 26, 2009, 06:25:56 AM
How about :-

1) One thing i'm not sure, even if the existing Helium release at the 10 oclock, will it functionally work or just design? if it's purely for design, possible to use HV like Rolex SD?

2) How about just put "1000m" on the dial and then max all marker? otherwise i think a clean dial will be unique on its own..

The bezel looks OK in my opinion, diver may need the count down from 15 to end...

cheers!

this is the Serket Watch ..48mm..
Title: Re: project 1000m dive watch
Post by: Scott C. on February 26, 2009, 09:02:00 AM
Cool watch!!! But not sure 48mm will be too big :D Is this yours :)?

I can see a marker (dot) under each number on the bezel..if all market has lumi, it will be nice too :)

Yeah..me too a desk diver LOL!! Dive 8 hours a days...sometime more :D And the counter is important for the end of day count down (check if enough time to say good bye to colleagues, last email, shutting down PC, etc) LOL!!
Title: Re: project 1000m dive watch
Post by: chrisyen on February 26, 2009, 09:15:29 AM
bezel... i suggest only keep 15, 30, 45

lume? yes.... for 12 now, 15, 30 and 45 can be filled own... so the letter must bold to make it easier to fill the lume!

dial will be as clean.... case back design i'm working on it... military table type...

the hv is workable.... manually.... not like rolex... part also because of design...

btw, scott... where is your new office? got swimminig pool? u gonna get a diver soon.. :D

Yenfoolun,
Wow! Fantastic design. I don't think there's much more to improve on the proposed design, but since you asked for feedback on the crown guards, below are 2 possibilities which I find appealing.

Baume & Mercier.

Orient Professional Diver with the crown at four o'clock position.

By the way I saw the Baume & Mercier diver going for half price at Emotus KLCC, just in case anyone is interested. As for me I'm saving up for the Yenfoolun Automatic Professional Diver watch. Malaysia Boleh!

Hi Scott,
I did not buy the B&M. The picture is borrowed from the internet.
I believe the watch is still available at Emotus.

Anyway here's a link to an interesting review comparing the B&M diver to the Orient diver (http://www.gmtplusnine.com/2007/03/31/musings-on-yellow/), both with yellow dials.

overall better now... i changed
1. bezel side... from change to 4 screws...
2. bezel marker reduce to on 15, 30, 45
3. earliest ugly crown guard
4. second hands...
5. helium valve crown finishing

but i may still need to improve
1. bigger bezel???
2. max max max the dial marker.... luminous at 6 just too small
3. luminous on tip of second hand
4. broader hour and min hands.... minute hand must point up to min marker
5. shorter bit on crown guard...

and if the crown too bit... i may make a destro instead...
otherwise i need to make a thicker caseback... so that the crown wound touch our hand easily!

now yet to decide is
1. any logo we want to put at dial / both crowns, caseback buckle!
2. what type of buckle? rolex/seiko type of double lock? or normal thick big pin bukle?
3. what wording to put at case back.... i suggest to put in table
    1. automatic ETA 2824-2
    2. Professional DIVERS
    3. 1000m water resistant
    4. Swiss Made
    5. 316L Stainless Steel
    6. ????? mwf  ????

added some minor changes..

But would like to see the breitling crown..

or the Marathon's crown guard..

But i've always love the Bathy's..

Just some foods for thought...

Hi Yenfoolun,
Wonderful job. The design is looking great. Would like to share my thoughts below (in blue italic text).

overall better now... i changed
1. bezel side... from change to 4 screws... Are the screws on the sides of the bezel functional or decorative?
2. bezel marker reduce to on 15, 30, 45
3. earliest ugly crown guard
4. second hands...
5. helium valve crown finishing

but i may still need to improve
1. bigger bezel??? Not at the expense of dial size. May affect legibility.
2. max max max the dial marker.... luminous at 6 just too small Agreed.
3. luminous on tip of second hand Agreed. Perhaps small circle similar to Sub.
4. broader hour and min hands.... minute hand must point up to min marker Agreed.
5. shorter bit on crown guard... Maybe just a tiny bit shorter.

and if the crown too bit... i may make a destro instead...
otherwise i need to make a thicker caseback... so that the crown wound touch our hand easily! What is the expected case thickness?

now yet to decide is
1. any logo we want to put at dial / both crowns, caseback buckle! I would prefer a clean logoless dial.
2. what type of buckle? rolex/seiko type of double lock? or normal thick big pin bukle? Pin buckle gets my vote.
3. what wording to put at case back.... i suggest to put in table
    1. automatic ETA 2824-2
    2. Professional DIVERS
    3. 1000m water resistant
    4. Swiss Made
    5. 316L Stainless Steel
    6. ????? mwf  ????
How about the stating the total production run on the case back? Ltd Edition 50 pcs or 100 pcs?

Title: Re: project 1000m dive watch
Post by: chrisyen on March 01, 2009, 01:12:37 PM
danny,

1. screws on bezel side........ so that bezel wont came of and also use for easier turning bezel
2. bigger bezel... maybe not, its already max... i agreed with u.... dial size cant be any smaller!
3. luminous at tip of second hand..... not sure round a rectangle will look gd.... but full red is no gd now...
4. yeah... just little shorter from crown will do...
5. thickness.... at i'm 1st talking bout a very thick case.... since 1000m... it cant be thin... and it wont look good... never expect something like rolex sub kind of thickness... so probably around 15mm at first.... but case back must be thicker to push the watch crown away from hand.... otherwise it will scratch on hand when we wear it.... will work out the side graphic
6. logoless.... yeah... i always like no logo...
7. pin buckle? type????
8. no of production.... gd idea.... but not sure how many of us wants it... let see...

one more thing.... crystal - 5.5mm? dome or flat? i prefer little dome actually...
ar coating got to makesure they use a gd 1.... not like those fake pam see blue at most angle!

Post by: danny on March 02, 2009, 07:39:44 AM
Yenfoolun,
By pin buckle type I was referring to the large Panerai tang type buckle.
A domed crystal would be nice but how damaging will it be to our wallet?  :D
I agree with you on the bluish ARs found on the fake PAMs. You can spot them from a mile away.

Looking good.
Just one minor feedback.
I would prefer to leave the engraved numerals without lume but maybe painted black for improved legibility.
What do you guys think?

i've compared between
1. engrave
2. no engrave
3. engrave with black paint
4. lume

1. give u a feel of solid piece of divers.... (some who want to lume it, can be done later )
2. look smaller and a big chunk of steel
3. better legibility but bit weird with overall design..... because 12 is lume... and then future u cant lume it....
4. it disturb time reading in dark... i prefer not to..... eventhough it may look nice....
