Title: Demagnetize quartz watches
Post by: spacewalker on August 06, 2014, 07:47:11 PM
Hi. I have one swiss chronograph quartz watches. It use ETA  G10.711 movement. Lately, it is not keeping a good time, it starts loosing time around 1-2 minutes within a week. My friend told me my watch had been magnetized. i had test put that watch around a compass, yes the compass hand start moving when my watch is  around it. Reading at a forum , demagnetized the mechanical movement is quite common but the quartz movement has a magnet component and demagnetized it could damage the movement itself. Maybe I have to demagnetized only the case and bracelet maybe while taking the movement off. Anyone here ever use demagnetized procedure? maybe for the Quartz watches.

i'm guessing its dirty battery contacts / some batt leak into the movement.
best way of cos is to bring it back to service center...they can always demagnetize it for free anyway.
