Title: To read a rolex gmt master II
Post by: roystock on July 18, 2014, 03:28:20 PM
Hi guys,

Let's play a trivia quiz.
Below is my rolex gmt master II that I was wearing this evening at 5:15pm.
While there are many ways to set and read the watch, I set it according to some guides and it is now showing time on three time zones.

So my question is, based on the pic below, my local time is 5:15pm. What is my home time and where is my "home"?
:)

GMT time 5.15am, -12 hours, that could be New York, USA.

Bingo!
Both bro grifterfmj and bro Verte got the right timezone.
Furthermore, Bro Verte was spot on, I was using New York as my "home".

Understand that both bro grifterfmj and bro Verte also own a Rolex GMT. So I guess this is a rather conventional way to set up a GMT watch? (Nothing was mentioned in Rolex instruction booklet)

Just to share,
- Under this method, the hour hand (mercedes hand) is set to the local time (KL time, 5:15pm)
- The GMT hand is set to show Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) - which is 10:15am in this case (assuming the bezel is align).
- My "home" is New York (GMT -5) and hence, I turn the bezel by 5 clicks clockwise. You can read the "home time" using the GMT hand in concurrent with the marking on the bezel - in this case, it is 5:15am in New York.

By a quick glance - you can tell time in 3 different timezone
- 5:15pm local time (KL), 10:15am GMT time (London) and 5:15am home time (NY).
