Just exploring really....lets say i want to spend rm1k max. What can i get with the criteria i set?
40mm-44mm
Manual wind if possible.
Simple 3 hand is enough. No need for date.
Strap to keep the cost down.
Thinking of a full or partial skeleton dial since i havent had one before.
As long as its not Russion or Chinese its fine.
-
Invicta? seems like a good buy... :)
Citizen and Orient too have some good ones within your range n specs...
-
Sorry if i offend anyone but Invicta is a brand i would never get. I have seen them started out copying Rolex almost entirely in their design and well...dunno la...just not interested in them.
I once had a Orient "open heart" and because i cant find the correct sizing for the bracelet i just gave it as a present to my uncle.

Slightly out of your budget. Check out Steinhart pilot range.

Takashi : Everyone has their own preferences... :)

Peter, you're a hard man to please.
By the way Ingersoll uses Chinese movements as reported here: http://www.europastar.com/europastar/magazine/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1004030938 (http://www.europastar.com/europastar/magazine/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1004030938), so may not match your criteria also.
I'm running out of ideas here. Let me know if you do find a watch that meets all your requirement.

Haha just abit itchy only la Danny.
Previously it was the Orient but then again i should have gotten the Orient Star version of the same watch, looks to have a oyster type bracelet.
Hush, that Citizen looks quite good. Never seen it before in Msia.
-
Have you got what you been looking for ?
-
Yes. I like the Ingersoll design. But only let down by the China movement in it.
-
Dear Takashi..
This is just my opinion :)
Like you , i always hunt for the below 1K as that make much more sense to me (financially)
You can always choose the norm Seiko, Orient, Alba, Casio, Timex - which functionality wise would be great and accurate. However, at that price, design wise may not be so handsome. A few like Seiko Milemarker and Monster may be good looking, but in the same time hundred others might own the same piece like you.
Next would be the brand that i categorized myself as pure fashion. They are not a true watchmaker, they capitalize on trend and fashion...brand like Fossil, Nautica, Guess, Cerutti, DKNY, Emporio Armani, ..You can get a decent design below 1k, but doubt you can get automatic engine. I used to own one great Cerutti watch which cost me slightly more than 1k.I used to own two Guess that cost around 700 a piece.... Great looking for sure, great quality and customer service as well, but mostly are quartz and nothing much to talk about other than the beaut.Nowadays, well i stop buying this kind...heheheh
Next the homage - but to some it is still a form of replication. So this up to you but check this link if you ever feel like at the very least checking it out http://www.homageforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=36
Next - unknown origin brand or ebay mushroom brand. Brand like rougois, eric edelhausen and others, Most of them wish to be known as european brand, but I am quite sure they are Chinese origin. But hey, at least they are original in design. Check out my blog if you like to know more about these brand. I have some posting on it.
Next - I classified this two and a few others on their own category. They have their own design, they also make homage of other watches. So partly original. They are Invicta and Struhling. Pretty good i say. I own two INvicta with no complaint. My friend bought one as well. I read you earlier note on invicta which is absolutely true, but they have like thousand of model in their sleeves and some are pretty decent. I love mine through and through
Pre owned watches - In which i should advice you to visit DuniaJam blog, and check out his link of his blogger friend. They sell lots of this kind at very interesting price. Some are Pre Owned,NEW OLD STOCK, some even new. So far from what i heard they are honest, reliable watch lovers who love to share their interest. I also have some link in my blog , almost identical to DuniaJam blog but his is much better.anyhow If you look into this, with 1k you might get away with 2 or 3 pieces at a time.
All above you can get below 1k. But another important thing would be your skill of negotiation, and lost of effort. Hunt from one shop to another till you satisfied....heheh
my 2 cent...
-
Just like Nazri said. RM1k option is quite big also. Many choice to consider. ;D
-
Thanks for the good feedback.
I think thats the fun of it...hunting for the specs you like and browsing around.
So far i am enjoying my latest Seiko 5 i got from another member here.
Hmmm wonder if i can just take out the dial....dunno how the look will be like..

Get laco miyota but no skeleton la.
-
Yes. I like the Ingersoll design. But only let down by the China movement in it.
I think China is actually up and coming in terms of movement manufacturing, although quality and QC wise they are still behind the Swiss/Japanese and even the russians. A lot of the so-called fashion brands pun sudah pakai chinese movements actually...cost factor la..These are not petaling street quality but higher grade/reliable movements.
I have a few with chinese engines(internet brand) and for the price u pay, I m happy enough...

Agreed. There are in progress making a good watch & movement. Maybe take 5-10 years or more to develop a good quality movement. Maybe Japanese & Swiss will have rival to be consider soon. But a few Chinese brand is up to Swiss standard nowadays & they develop a tourbillon also. Outstanding.
But for the moment, I'm not fancy other brand using other movement. I mean I like if Ingersoll using Poljot movement or any Russian movement. The German design kinda have a strong influence to me.... but the China movement has made it lost it's soul.... its for me la. ;) I also have Chinese watch. Almost 3 years using it. Thats why I like if they are using their own movement... give more 'feeling' when wearing it. Hehe...
