Tag Heuer recently announced a new movement called CH80.
And this tri compax "in-house" chrono movement will be fitted in a new line of Carrera watches aptly named Carrera CH80...
I know after the caliber 1887 fiasco, most would double, triple or quadruple check if this is indeed a true in-house movement.
I must admit the watches look pretty cool.
Those panda themed dials with red accents got me... ;D

Word has it that the design is not 100% confirmed hence the different crowns.
Power reserve is at 80 hours.
Check out the outer flange... it has 4 markers for every second, which is correct as the watch runs at 28.8k vph... by right they can only tell time accurate to 1/8th of a second.
Some manufacturers put 5 markers for 1 second which is incorrect... Rolex Daytona included... hehehe
Zenith El Primero Chronographs mark 1 second with 5 markers as well but is correct as it runs at 36k vph... able to accurately measure 1/10th of a second.
Best part? Prices start at USD5500. Which is a steal if it really is a true in house developed caliber.

Panda. :Dancing_banana:

Came across this in Hodinkee few days ago.
The first TAG that has some appeal to me in terms of movement and dial design in a long2 time.
All the design elements are spot on.
One of the things I look for in a tri-compax chrono is that the running seconds is at 6 o'clock.
Will check it out in the metal once its arrives, although I swore off TAGs since I sold off all 3 TAGS I had, in 1990s.

Sometimes a newly developed in house movement may not be a better thing as it is not time tested.

was introduced as cal 1969 then now named as CH80
a column wheel with vertical clutch
by the way, new ambassador say hi :Laughing_on_floor:

TJ is correct on the calibre
this info is available online..
endorsements by any celeb shouldn't mean a thing to a WIS.. in fact it detracts from the actual value of the watch to me
If you need a celeb to convince u to buy a certain watch.. u obviously have no opinion of your own

Good design and good movement. Price wise is very competitive for an in-house movement. To me the case looks a little thick albeit the 6.5mm thin movement. Hope TAG can come out with a thinner case very soon. Will definitely check them out once available.

Really nice. Looking forward to the bi-compax version installed in a Monaco.

I generally like Panda dials but not a fan of how this one looks. I especially dislike the CH80 text on the dial. The font type looks out of place, and IMHO, cheapens the whole look.

Ya, abit weird when the second hand is on the left subdial

I want it bad!!! Just wish that the lugs are a bit less long and sharp.

This is not available yet. I was at the Tag boutique Wisma Atria just last week.
I will take the white face one with leather strap thanks.
