Dear folks, i am torn between 2 lovers : -
PATEK PHILIPPE - Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph Réf. 5990/1A-001 or
Ulysse Nardin - El Toro
Please help

No doubt the PP
-
Quite obvious.. The PP without a doubt!
-
PP Nautilus miles ahead .....
-
Don't even need to think twice...the UN of course!...err...just kidding...the most obvious choice ever in the history of 'torn between' threads...it has got to be the PP Nautilus...of course!!!
-
Serving nearly the same functions, the UN if you like it sporty or the PP if you like it old man style..
-
Doesn't matter either one.
Between the 2 lovers, just marry one of them and have an affair with the other. :Dancing_banana: :Dancing_banana:
By the time they found out about each other, they would have de-valuated too much to care. ;D ;D
-
A very big thank you for all you comments. I am kinda leaning towards the UN as I am pretty well sold on the “looks”, and hey, it’s a perpetual date, so it’s kinda cool to see the date jump from 28/29 to March 1… :Laughing_on_floor: . Yeah, I am a gadget guy.
The only thing that is stopping me from pulling the trigger is, I would like a dress watch as well. The PP would fit the bill.
Both are awesome watches, at this level, it’s a matter of preference. Pity I can’t get both as it is such an indulgence.
keep the comments coming folks
-
PP, full stop.
If u like perpetual calendar, there are other choices within the budget.
-
both watches too cluttered I'm afraid...I'm sure there're other PC or GMT watches around
-
PP.
-
5960/1a is pretty nice as well, busy dial watch are my liking ;D

In this case, it has to be PP.
Else, get a G-Shock.
-
I was so curious what UN is when i saw the title of this topic, i wanted to see what it was since i thought "UN" didn't sound familar to Patek's normal contender and i never thought it would be the UN you meant to be .. i nearly puke and spill the coffee i was having this morning .. haha ! (just kidding) . However to your question, i think no contest here, PP all the way .
-
Ulysee Nardin ? Then you must get the limited edition 1 Malaysia watch :Laughing_on_floor:
The special edition is limited to just 25 pieces in rose gold ceramic bezel and 75 in stainless steel each bearing the 1Malaysia emblem in the dial
:Dancing_banana:
-
I love the humour here….”nearly puke”, “getting the 1 Malaysia edition” . I am not a fan of getting special editions and whatever famous name edition. I am a simple man with simple needs :)
2014 batches of PP are not released yet…just announced. So my itch will have to wait till xmas. :Blue:
Malaysia PP AD can’t even say if they will get those pieces
Keep those humorous post coming. I would love to fall of my chair reading them :Laughing_on_floor:
-
So far...there are zero votes for the UN. Not even a single sympathy vote? ;D. Btw, "simple men with simple needs" would normally get a Seiko or a Citizen and be set for life. :Laughing_on_floor:
-
As much as I like to give a sympathy vote for UN, I simply can't.
This must be one of the most lopsided "this or this" thread... hahaha
PP would be a better choice in this case.
But what does it matter right?
You're the guy spending the moolah.
Go ahead and grab that UN if it really floats your boat.
Surely a conversation piece I reckon.

.....Torn between two lovers, feelin' like a fool
Lovin' both of you is breakin' all the rules

I actually saw someone selling the UN Merdeka 50 years Malaysia version on Lowyat forum. Going quite reasonable too. Here's a link to it for those interested.

Bad choice advertising.
-
Sorrry, my apologies, how can I take out the ad? Its not even mine to begin with.
-
UN for me... non sympathy vote... actual interest
-
... Else, get a G-Shock.
:Laughing_on_floor:
-
Seriously, not knowing what the asking price for the UN, I still think it's more "interesting" than that PP
You want octagonal, go AP ROO. PP has to be round, Calatrava. Anything else is a catch up to AP.
And don't even get me started on that bleached, jubilee bracelet wannabe of a 5960....

Back to the OP, I would choose the PP between the two. However, I would not consider the Nautilus as a dress watch.

Agree on the Nautilus not being a dress watch. It's a sad case of neither here nor there. Maybe a sporty, dress watch? Still unsure how the 324 holds up to daily wear and occasional bangs from that.
-
In my opinion, the Nautilus would be regarded as a sporty dress watch. There are many watches which fall within this category...the Royal Oak being one and the Longines Legend Diver. As to the 324SC caliber taking the tolls of daily wear, it holds pretty well with a respectable accuracy to boot. If we are intending to put a watch up for rough use i.e sports or rough work, then I would have to add that Patek is the wrong brand indeed for that purpose. After all we are talking about a daily wearer and not a beater.
-
5711/1A with 324SC calibre has been on my wrist almost daily for the last 5 yrs. Although the Gerald Genta hallmark's edges behave like a scratch & ding magnet, its heart was extremely robust, & is keeping time to <-2s a day a in accurasy! Having said that, I always let it has a good rest every evening, & never wear it on threadmill, doing any vigorous sport or in the shower
Agree, can do, but not very presentable as formal dress watch. Much prefer calatrava shaped dresss watch matches with leather strap for evening do.
-
PP definitely - been watching this for ages
Also, I rather like the UN merdeka watch - looks rather cool to me
-
You are not serious, are you, bro Sid Vicious?
No doubt, Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Chronometer Mens looks cool, but, the "Merdeka" LE has really defaced it, beside devalued this extra ordinary watch! Just like the ROO "Bukit Bintang" LE, no one actually wanted it!
-
To his his own bro
I have been looking at some other watches which people like and i just cannot understand why they bought them. But I'm pretty sure some like certain watches for whatever reason. The one Malaysia Im not so sure but the Merdeka is ok, to me at least. However, I don't have that amount of money to blow and like a friend told, why do a one night stand and get A, B, C when you actually want X, Close eye and pull the trigger, the only problem is the CC also cannot pay the price tag :Laughing_on_floor:

Nothing wrong with the ROO BB LE actually. Quite like it but not the asking price for pre-owned.
-
Nothing compares to the Nautilus when you have the budget bro
-
The UN perpetual if your wrist can support it.
I prefer the white metal version but that more to personal taste.
The PP is nice but it can't compare to El Toro. Both in house movement but the UN have far more interesting and advance features.

If you ask me, the ROO is giving the Nautilus a good fight if not upsetting it already. More dial/bezel/strap choices and not to mention case material. Fantastic wrist presence.
Nautilus is just so you can "nah!" others and show that you have the "budget".

I kinda agree, can't justify paying the amount for a nautilus when a APROO offers so much more in terms of aesthetics and sportiness.

I have to disagree on this , not the ROO, but the RO especially 15202 ,roo is too bulky and rough , no way near 5711 nor the thickest nautilus . ROO does makes me feels like a terminator or a basketball superstar bling and the nautilus made me feel like a posh gentleman ... Lol ... That's absolute only my opinion
-
:( That's like comparing an E class sedan to a X6. Not really apple to apple here. If you get what I mean.

Between those 2 I'd go PP for sure. But I prefer the 5980 rather then this new travel time chrono or I'd get another gold rolex instead. Don't know why you get the UN.

I'll have to agree with Godzy on this. They are different watches, belong to different segment. "Giving a good fight" and "wrist presence" may be expressions which suit the APROO rather well because I always imagine it being worn by night club bouncers, loan sharks and drug dealers. I don't know why AP chose the label "Offshore". I think "Mutant" would have been more appropriate. The nautilus in contrast just looks refined and civilised (I want one.... :Praying: :Praying:).

My list above is far from exhaustive. For a handsome guy (although having a pair of salacious eyes) like you, maybe a middle age porn star.

I need to rush to get a dic to check the meaning of "salacious", that shows i am not really qualify for the profession you suggested. btw i would strongly think someone with a "half-man half-animal" nick would make a perfect candidate :Dancing_banana:
