What watch would you buy if you only have RM500 to spend?
IMO, the Seiko 5 would be the best for this price. What do you think? ;D
-
Go for seiko 5
-
G-Shock
-
Orient Bambino.
Beautiful mechanical, about rm450.(my first mechanical watch...loved it so much..awhile later i bought another Orient)

G-Shock is always cheap and cheerful :D
-
Under RM500 and mechanical, Seiko or that nice Orient. Skip those with steel bracelets as cost cutting measures gets you a poor quality bracelet.
-
I was going to say buy G-Shock, but that Orient is too good looking for RM 500 budget

That's good advice, Mr dpkong!

Beautiful piece

That Bambino looks absolutely amazing for such an affordable budget! That, and coupled with the photography skills of course :Jumping: For other options, I think quite a number of Seiko 5 models could be had at RM500 and these would be very value-for-money watches. The military type especially could be a good, knockabout addition.

Seiko

Although I didn't buy another Orient...I can't agree more...This is such a classic and bang for buck. I was wearing this at a wedding dinner last week with a suit and a tie and someone wearing a SUB C LV asked me...hey, that is a nice watch, is it expensive? ;D

bro,
i have the same convo all the time...everytime someone tries to guess the value of the bambino when im wearing it, its normally in the 1k-3k range, no one believes its Rm450. Once you buy a nice strap for it, it looks even more expensive
I shall poison you with what i upgraded the bambino for.(luminous, sapphire crystal, power reserve gauge...and still under rm1k)

OK, it's not a watch, but it's probably the only 'Best Anything in the World' that RM500 is going to get you.
Plus, it's made in Australia

My only problem I had with the only Orient i ever owned which was the Hogrider was that the lume was exceptionally dim. Other than that, it is really one of the best watches that money can buy. Any how strong is the lume on the bambino?

Seiko 5 or Orient

Seiko 5 and Orient are two brands with sub RM500 models. Invicta is also a good source. Their mechanical watches that uses Miyota is priced along that line.

I think Seiko, Citizen, Casio are good choices!

Without second thought, Seiko 5..

I bought a black Seiko Sea Urchin (SNZF17K1) for around RM500 a few weeks ago. The Pepsi version (SNZF15K1) is probably a bit cheaper. I like the SNZF11K1 with white dial as well but it seems to be sold out everywhere

IMHO, personally if I had RM500 to spend, i would go for a Seiko 5 or Seiko 5 Sports which can be had for approx RM 460+ after discount.
The quality of the components and finishing in Seiko is way better than that I have seen on the Sistem51. With all due respect, the Sistem51 movement looks like a china made movement...just try looking through the see through caseback.

Go for Orient Bambino. Or wait till September. Get the new watch sistem51 in steel casing. Looking forward for that.
-
Orient is value for money. Go for Japan domestic model for value added.

Problem with the system is that it's a sealed system. Try are proud to mentioned that the whole movement has just 51 components and if ever there's a problem to just chuck it away and get a new movement. Although there are merits to the design philosophy, throwing away the whole movement just because a spring needs replacing is rather wasteful.

Sorry to quote an old post, but yea i own one.
ok lah so far so good. but since i have a few watches to rotate around, i had to re-adjust and do some flinging to get the watch started every time i when it comes to this one's turn.

Seiko 5 is a must have
-
Seiko 5 would be a natural and no-brainer choice. It literally ticks perpetually, needs no special servicing, could take any kind of punishment, and you could probably use it to throw at someone during an emergency situation. Try doing that with your Submariner (okay, so the Sub costs more than the pre-set budget) :Laughing_on_floor:
