Title: Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Pre-owned. Should I get it?
Post by: Sacrifies on February 05, 2014, 12:06:08 PM
I recently found an Omega Speedmaster moonwatch at a pre-owned watch store and I really like it. What do you guys think?

I would pass on this one. The only speedy I'd get is the classic version. current model is the 3570. http://www.omegawatches.com/collection/speedmaster/moonwatch/professional/35705000

I have actually reserved it but darn the normal speedmaster is around RM4K-5K looks good and auto some more.

I have done research on this watch and it seems to be rare one. I would appreciate it if you have any comments on this watch especially those who have depth knowledge and well verse with speedmaster.

The lastest version uses c.1861 movement. The classic is using c.321 which unfortunately difficult for me to access in an immaculate condition.

This version which quoted from the internet , Limited edition Speedmaster with exhibition caseback showing a decorated chronometer cal. 864. Its an upgraded version of c.861

i think i know which pre-owned store.
its been there for quite a few months, i also checked it out before but passed on it.
at its selling price, without even original bracelet, imo its abit exp.

notice also its incorrect caseback which bugs quite a few ppl as it should be without 'and only', and which is the same one as found on the 3573.

I am no expert on Speedmaster but to my limited knowledge, the one shown is I think an apollo mission 35th anniversary limited edition, a very very close example to the Very nice Panda Dail Japan LE Mitsukoshi speedmaster (which has no red date marking (the date uncle Neil landed on the moon) on the dail and quite hard to find in original condition). The hands on the 3 registers are silver on the original Apollo mission not sure if yours is white because of reflection. And if you seek out on the web the back case should have an eagle landing on the moon...anyway if it helps you sleep at night.. go for it...

I too, did consider buying one a few months ago..but in the end I get myself a Zenith multicolor rainbow instead for a few hundred less..... ;D but that is just my 2 cents...

Im pretty sure you do know. I do think its abit pricey without the original bracelet but I will use this at my advantage when negotiating.

if not mistaken it is "First Watch worn on the moon". Please ignore that back case that I have uploaded on the thread, its totally the wrong backcase.

Ask the seller add the original bracelet together

I think you're actually looking at the reduced speedmaster, post moonwatch model I think.

That's a nice and rare one... I would consider it if it's less than 8k for the condition. Otherwise, I would go for 3573.50 for the see through case back and sapphire crystals, I know, the original DNA should be a hexalite crystal, and sapphire is inferior to many Speedy pro fans, but again, you must follow your heart instead of what other people think, good luck!

if going pre-owned, better 3572 instead of 3573.

Looks like a modified Speedy. I don't think the original Speedmaster 3569.3100 35th Anniversary Apollo XI comes with this hand combination.

actually i had a 3572 a few months ago, got it for about rm7k complete with box and card.
they are out there for a good price, just need to find them.

in fact, another 3572 also sold here a couple months ago for almost rm8k IIRC.
so yea, that chrono24 may have individuals with their asking prices, but i seriously doubt they will sell.

a better reference will be watchrecon.com, as you can see listings from elsewhere...and i bet you that eventually most will start slashing prices as they dont sell at the exorbitant prices they asked for initially.

Yeah, price vary greatly depending on condition. I usually use prices of sold ebay items as a gauge. If the 3572.50 you purchased was in excellent condition, you got it for a steal.

A quick check on ebay shows that recent listings of 3572.50 sold for RM8k - RM10.3k.

Looks great but searching and acquiring one is not as easy as it looks. It took me almost a year to find my moonwatch
