1. status;
2. function of the watch - chrono, diver watch; pilot watch etc
3. admire of the beauty of watch;
4. how many u keep at least
-
you want it, not need it
-
we don't need one... we want one, the more expensive the watch, the more self kimochi he/she has ;D

I personally feel it's a personal interest mixture with sentimental value. Of course, Status as well :)
-
I think for what ever reason people can think of, be it functions, design, precious materials, history etc, it boils down to 2 fundamental reasons
"Status" and "Siok Sendiri".
-
I want nice watches primarily for 3.
If I want something which has a lot of functions, I'd probably go with a digital watch. Even my iphone has more functions.
Also, not really bothered about status and how many I have.

to stand out of the crowd and be different !
-
Coz they look good and fascinates me with the movements....a combinations of parts able to tell time as accurately as possible.
-
Siok Sendiri definitely rings the bell. Feels good to watch the watch as the mechanical movement ticks, no pun intended
-
Watches are men's wearable high-tech luxury toy.
-
Mostly self satisfaction, or siok-sendiri, to wear expensive watches. Then again, "expensive" is a relative term!
-
We do not need an expensive watch nor we want one , is just unfortunate that the watches we like are expensive.. ... :Laughing_on_floor:
-
the word expensive refer to people like me ... a watch over a thousand is expensive.. to some wearing a watch costing hundred
of thousand to millions still cheap....
-
For "SHIOKK" Sendiri lo...

Because they are preciooussss.....
-
If we really want to stand out from the crowd, a Ferrari is the way to go.
Those who called themselves watch collectors or horologist will chase after a watch not because of its face value but because of its intrinsic value.
Unfortunately, the level of technology/precision is directly proportional to face value. Hence the notion that we are always going after expensive watches.
I love my Seiko5 but I also love my IWC. Vastly different face values but intrinsic values are much closer.
-
Well said meoramri...

We usually want one to satisfy our "craving" to have at least an item of luxury to wear at least once in our lifetime. For ladies, it's probably handbags, for others it could be a family heirloom bracelet, etc.... and that luxury item comes with some status and aesthetics that gives us gratification (aka syiok sendiri)
-
Watch is one of those few luxury things a man can splurge on himself. Some says car is one such items but how often we can get good nice car below 100k? But with watches, there's hundreds of good choices.
For our lady friends, there are million of luxury items that can fit into their life. Handbags, necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, fashionable clothes and of course, more handbags! The way i sees it, a man can simply put on an elegant watch and he's prepare to walk out of the house.
-
True true, agreed.

You must let others know it is expensive at the same time. Some just don't appreciate! :Laughing_on_floor:

I buy to "shoik sendiri" appreciating tiny mechanical part. I know some buy just to give face to others. I dont buy onto that. Some ppl was like dafuq when i showed them one particular watch which powered by one of old school chronograph

i usually don't let others know that it's exp. I keep a low profile and I'll just let them find it out it themselves. ;D

Those who know don't need to ask. Those who ask are told it's from Petaling Street.

I don't need expensive watches, I just need great watches that are unfortunately expensive.

Should be cheaper with senior citizen discounts. They know you won't pedal it to the metal and no messy interior to clean up later...
:Laughing_on_floor:
-
Apparently the chic mistaken Armani exchange to be expensive watch, which 'impressed' her.
-
Armani would become hot cakes out there.... :Startled: some more no discount later
-
i think it depend on personal interest as well....
-
It's the only thing a man can admire as we do not wear jewelry
-
for me its a matter of personal preferences, i love mechanical watches for the tech
-
For mechanical purposes a chronometer grade Tissot with sapphire crystal is good enough for most people.
But yes, it's basically the only jewelry a man can wear. I talked to some "atas" girls and they quickly judge guys by their watch. What to do real world is like this. I think you walk into a property showroom with a Rolex, you will definitely get better service from SA hahaha.
For guys, manbag is a no-no in my opinion. I saw some young chaps using coach, lv or gucci sling bags... Too girly lar. Even worst lately I've been seeing men wearing Pandora bracelets!!!
For me, other than the status Part, the heritage and specs are the most important.
-

Agree. Men got 3 toys, watch, camera, car.
-
For FUN!! :D

If the SA judge by looking at the watch, he or she must be loosing lots of potential customers. Those ordinary guy with big money, always looks like poor guy. If a non potential customer, or a person who can't afford to buy your property, he or she won't step in your show room. If I ever meet such SA, I never let them earn my single cents.

For haolian...........show off......

Hahaha..most the reasons of people here is to 'syiok sendiri'. :Laughing_on_floor:
Can't deny it but it makes me feel confident. ;D And another reason is about quality. Expensive watch have better quality!

Edit:
Hahaha..most the reasons of people here is to 'syiok sendiri'. :Laughing_on_floor:
Can't deny it. ;D And another reason is about quality. Expensive watch have better quality!  That's what I always said when people around me asked, "Why you buy expensive watch instead of buying the 'pasar malam' one. The function is all the same right; to tell time? "
I already 'serik' to buy 'pasar malam' watches become I will change it every 3 months because it easy to get dirty and damaged without a reason. I don't even wear the watch frequently and then suddenly the hours/minutes needles come off from the watch. WTH?! ??? Besides, not all people wear an expensive watch so it makes me really confident because not everyone have a watch like mine. I always like to be the 'uncommon' person. ;D I like when people said "That girl is unique!" ;D ;D
-
It all based on AFFORDABILITY.
If you can afford it, buy it.
Even the "commoner" brand of watches have good and nice designs too. :Jumping:
So expensive watches can be family heirloom for next generations.
-
just to show how good we are in earning $$.. :P

I usually buy subsale only. But I've visited alot of showrooms lar, some of the sales agent for hot properties damn lansi one. Hahaha!
Haha mainly for shiok sendiri lar. "I'm successful and want to wear a symbol of success". At some point in life everyone will want an expensive watch to celebrate success.

just to show how good we are in earning $$.. :P

the watch is just a conversation starter, the rest is up to us, bro...

Agree, most men are like machines, such as cars, cameras and watches; i do only love watches :Scolding:

luxury timepiece on your wrist build your inner confident! :Dancing_banana:

luxury timepiece on your wrist build your inner confident! :Dancing_banana:
Agree! The physical appearance & mechanical movements are an added advantages too
-
luxury timepiece on your wrist build your inner confident! :Dancing_banana:
I don't agree with you, confident is within yourself, built by experiences and self improvement, not by timepiece.
-
luxury timepiece on your wrist build your inner confident! :Dancing_banana:
 You really should not need a material piece on your wrist to build your inner confidence. That is pretty shallow.
-
Of course inner confidence does not rely on luxury timepiece itself,
But somehow it gives you the 'feel good' mood and boost up ur confidence level.
Different people have different opinion.
-
Yes... Different people have different opinions and I am under the opinion that one should seriously look into his/her life if he/she needs material items to boost inner confidence. Feel good factor? Definitely!
It is just my personal opinion. We could always agree to disagree.
-
I just love watches
-
Your watch tells about your personality but it doesn't mean that you'll need expensive watch to stand out of the crowd.
Wear what you love and believe, careless about what other think.
If either they give you a compliment or dis-glorify your watch, thanks to them.
At the end of the day, how do you feel that it sit on your wrist that's matter.
-
For achievement purpose
-
For haolian...........show off......
but most of the time, the more expensive the watch is, the more unassuming it look and most ppl in general doesn't recognise one. how to show off woh...
unless you wear something like Invicta
-
my views of 'why we need expensive watch'
1. the watch value may determined where you are
2. show of wealth
3. some ppl feels intimidated wearing a cheap watch for business
4. as for men,we don't wear jewellery or expensive jewellery or handbags like the ladies
5. appreciating the horological engineering
* sorry if i had made bad comments
-
watch is a fashion accessory.
