Post by: shijiko_7 on June 23, 2010, 11:17:18 AM
Hi guys.. anyone here collects G Shock? i am a big fan and manage to get some deals here in Qatar..
i bought like 4 in a row in a week...
My current one that I have here are :
Mudman MS-1 ( Men in Black Military coll)
Mudman Normal ver
2 DW series - one white and one black - with stick on strap.. velcro or something like that...
ANyone here who owns GA100 1A1 ? the stealth ver? here.. out of stock and i would like to get that also...

Basically the price here is about RM200-RM250 for the model i stated above.. good buy?

Aiming for Gulfman (About RM250) and Riseman (about RM500)

:) hope that this will trigger some discussion on Gs...

I don't collect G Shocks but I did get a Riseman recently. Lovin' the watch for its ruggedness and features.

I've only got 3 versions of the GA-100. It's pretty much sold out in KL as well, but I'm sure there's one or two lying around in a watch shop somewhere.

I like the black (right) one... Look like a stealth jet. I want to have at least one G-Shock for my collection... but cannot find which model suit me..  :'(. G-shock is a tough watch & very affordable to buy. I saw one vintage DW5600 sell on the ebay about RM9k. Whoa!!  :o To expensive....

I'm not really a collector but I recently got myself an all black stealth so-called 'military' style Mudman for Gym and sports. Everything is great about this watch EXCEPT for one thing. Reading the time in low light. Need to press the light in order to read the time or use the AUTOEL function.

Yes I am. Mental Watch collector? Been called crazy but never mental watch collector. Guess it is the same? Sjors? Yeah he is really big into g-shocks. Seen the pictures where all the watches covers his bed? I am not even close to WahWahWah (Hong Kong). He has an awesome collection more so Froggies.

Another favourite, the Team Tough watch.

A mental watch collector is one who has gone way pass a crazy collector.  ;D

Yeah WahWahWah's G collection is awesome but one of his watches that makes me drool everytime is his 1999 limited edition scubapro tuna.

Got a c2pid question. How do u preserve the resin band from cracking after a few years?
Title: Re: G Shock - anyone here is into it?

I've had my Frogman for well over 7years and its still holding strong.
Granted i dont wear it much and never swim with it before. But the white color of the watch has turned abit yellow.

No special care really. However I would recommend washing or at least running it under tap water after a swim in the sea or pool.

I does not usually break so soon. I have 12 year old Gs that are holding strong. I did read about not wearing it together with sun block though as the chemicals is bad for resin. Also to wash it often if you wear them - in contrary to some belief - with mild liquid soap and dry it with a soft cloth. Sweat and dirt/gunk accumulated on resin would likely deteriorate it faster.

If you don't wear your G-shock for a very long time, the plastic parts turn sticky....That's what happened to my casio....dispose it since

I own a riseman and the new gravity defier series really nice especially the one with the orange wording which make it super legible. Damn that they did not made that one with bracelet. The blue dial doesn't appeal to me.

Generally it will not if you keep it clean and dry. The exception would be the belt stopper as the material composition is different (if I dare say of lesser general quality).

im looking for a place that can offer variety of choices..

G-Factory in Sunway Pyramid is quite good in choices
Casio Booth at Mines Shopping Center also good
but both a bit hard on giving discount...

Someone mention about one shop at Pertama giving good discount. All this depend on which model you want to get.  If you are looking at commonly available model like GW9000 or DW6900 , well you can find that almost everywhere...

Happy hunting and send us report on the result...

Sunway, Mines and places without good discounts are official G-shock models, warranty given by Marco group. Places that give good discounts are often grey market and the warranty is not covered under Marco.

The best place for me personally is Sg Wang. Some of those secluded, hidden from view shops already carried the G-1200 a month before it was officially made available in Malaysia. I got my GA-100 a month before it showed up at G-Factory. Last weekend I was told that the King of G-shock, the GX56, is coming end of the month/early October.

Saw and tried on a GX56 from my regular G-shock buyer last week. Nice but a big too big to be a classic. More like a fad although I can still pull it off somewhat on a 6.75" wrist. The case is a bit too tall although I can live with the diameter. Hence, not in my books at this time and unsure for the near future. Note: It does fit the wrist - in feel - better than my 1000B & G frogs...

the brotherhood of G's...heheheh

i bought a bezel / body for my GShock G7210RB, however since i couldnt find the exact one for it, i tried the common body for GW6900
make a fool of myself and that bezel doesnt fit....hehehehhehe...luckily it is not that expensive...but i dont know what to do with it now...

For that, if any of you looking for new body for your Gw6900 i am willing to let it go...if not then i guess, it will stay safely in my drawer....heheheh
anyhow, by any chance - anyone know where can i find body/bezel for my G7210RB ?

This is the picture of my G7210RB with tough solar ...fairly beaten watch....heheheh

anyhow...for the record the G7210RB is a great watch. I bought a used one from a friend as i have plan for it, one to change the body and two to reverse polarity of the screen...hence i bought a used unit....

Nonetheless now that i couldnt find the exact body, it still work really well with me. My other hobby would be gardening and often when in my small garden, i lost sense of time hence a watch on my wrist would be a great reminder...Dealing with gardening with all physical work and the dirt i played with, always reluctant to put on my other watches with me but with this on...the game is on...happily unearthing the garden with this tough watch on my wrist...yes, i should snap some picture someday while we both were in action....later perhaps

Here is what I found a few months back.... a NOS Riseman from the 90s.

I love the design, the huge size....

I almost bought it actually.... the colour make me think twice.... But this model is still Made In Japan, where else the new Riseman is Made In Thailand.

Bro, u want an atomic sync GW3000? Msia don't carry atomic sync models. Or do u mean our local version, the G-1200 below?

Try jalan-jalan at Sg Wg. Spotted a blue one there last month selling below current inflated prices, was just slightly below RM8XX. The Orange version is harder to find as it's more popular.

Yes, that is correct.
Casio is the manufacturer while G-Shock, G-Cool, Protrek, Baby G etc are the models made by Casio.

I was at Isetan KLCC the other day saw quite a fair bit of GShocks there until I was Shock-ed. Pun intended. No, they have some nice models there. But they look damn big for the wrist. Are they nice to wear? The classics ones nicer I think. Smaller in size. The only Quartz I have left is the tiny Tag Formula 1, now 14 yrs old and still ticking. Of course change battery many times. It measures only 31mm if not mistaken.

Guys, if I narrow down my first GShock to Mudman, Gulfman, Riseman and Frogman. Which is a better choice you think and where can I read about the different specifications these models can do. Besides different designs, what should I be looking for? And are all these 4 models Made in Japan? I kinda like the Mudman and Gulfman for their design as compared to Riseman and Frogman. Thank you in advance.

Of the list, only the frogman is mad in japan. Dont hold your breath for the others though. I would rank the Frogman, mudman (9300 range), then followed by riseman or gulfman in terms of desireability. Only the froggie is with screwback case though. You may want to just go to the website and read up the differences - justt too long to explain here and cut n paste looks too tacky. Cheers.

Frogman is definitely the ultimate G, it is suitable for deep sea diving. Riseman have sensors similar to protrek range, only lacks the compass (and also my favorite) ;D  Mudman with the twin sensor is kinda cool too, no comment on Gulfman though cos no really into the design. Happy hunting !

My mudman is also made in japan. For function. i'm choosing mudman (compas + thermometer) rather than frogman (diving function). I start with frogman & now downgrade to mudman. Used to have 7 frogman. Now its only 4. still thinking which one to let go.

The advantage of collecting frogman is it hold the value well ;D .

Realised Froggie highly in demand. I am getting Mudman for it's practicality and more wearable IMO. For me that is. But called Sunway and Paradigm, out of stock and have to wait 2 weeks and see. Will check out Isetan and Robinsons. Thought I saw somethig there.

I am going with Mudman. I like the design out of the 4 Master Gs. I need yo get 4 units actually cos 3 are for my friends. Converted them into G Shocks.

Frogman is a lot higher in terms of price, if you are planning as a daily used watch then it is not suitable. Besides that it is heavy and the diving log is pretty useless
The new mudman with the compass is a good choice, casio has done a good job "hiding" the sensors so it wont so ugly

this particular model "DW" is not available in Malaysia because it has atomic sync build in it, unless you wanted to buy online. But u can get a similar model G-1200BD-1A, totally same design without the atomic sync and tough movement. Sg wang is a good place to start, and also G factory  :) price is somewhere near 1k or less

i think the only certified gshock diver is the frogman, not easy to find here.
if used by military, the 2 most common ones are 5600 - as shown above - and 6900...mostly cos they're cheap and of cos durable.
if military inspired, then just search for MS - military, NV - navy blue and KG - olive green extensions.

for me, i personally prefer the mudmans since they're one of the toughest gshocks out there.

Mudman G9000 I recommend. It got military SEAL all black, also green camo and grey camo (more rare thou), which I think you will like. Best of all, it is very cheap.

Btw, the case back engraving racing mole is kinna cute too.

It is also the one that is used in the infamous hammer test.  ;D

My eyes almost dropped out when i saw one Frogman going for two k at Paradigm Mall G Factory last Sunday.  I wished the lens / glass of G Shocks made of sapphire.  My wife's Tiffany bracelet scratched my Mudman glass last evening.  I guess its ok cos its a GShock.

maybe its a limited edition frogman?

but sapphire shatters, guess thats why gshocks dont use them.

Would have go for GWA-1000 if wasn't for the lume. So it save me Rm 800 i guess... Actually this model comes with Auto illumination that when you tilt your hand 45 degree or so like looking at the watch, the lume will auto lights up for 1.5 or 3 seconds adjustable. :)

The way I hear it, Casio G-Shocks and Pathfinders (Pro-Trek here) are very popular with the regular troops in the Middle East and Afghanistan.

However, elite units like SAS, SEALs and Rangers do not use them in the field. It seems that the electronic beeps, alarms and flashing lights (dial illumination) are things that will get you killed in high threat situations. Soldiers have enough things to do as it is than to remember to switch off their watch alarm. Elite units prefer to use Luminox (H3) or similar type watches, basic three hand dials to time themselves. Anything more sophisticated, they literally do not have time to use.

Just something I remembered reading on the net on some watch forum.

I like the latest G-Shocks. I especially like the huge new GX-56.

My Casio GS-1050:

(http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z389/jason_recliner1/Casio%20GS-1050%20G-Shock%20Giez/DSC_3741.jpg) (http://s1187.photobucket.com/user/jason_recliner1/media/Casio%20GS-1050%20G-Shock%20Giez/DSC_3741.jpg.html)

I like it because it is incredibly functional and makes a great travel watch (the digital interfaces allow easier access to all the features than if it was all analog), and it has a solid steel case with screw-down caseback.  Just a great all-round watch.

thinking to get one of this....

i checked one of this out today at g-factory.
walked away completely dissapointed.
the UV light is ok, typical modern casio either 1s or 3s duration...no more 5s like older  g-shocks.
what bugged me was the lume on the hour hand didnt light up, perhaps uneven lume application...so needless to say in the dark its pretty damn hard to tell the time.
the pic shown above makes it look better than what i saw...

Look for the GA110 collection, a great place to start for you. Lots of variation, mostly very colorful, even the black and white variant is cheerful. (Btw, that is called the maharishi LE, recommend you to get that too). I also take note that you like big watches, so they will suite your taste too.
