Title: my first reveal in MWF...
Post by: shing on November 16, 2013, 10:14:50 PM
Very pleased I received this today on a cool, a early wintry and sunny Hong Kong morning.

I had given this brand much thought for one year...

, and finally booked the piece in June. Delivery took almost six months as it had a custom dial.

so presenting my first Laurent Ferrier -- the micro rotor galet micro rotor...

After a day of wearing this, I must say the asthetic presentation of my particular piece, and the wear, is giving me a horological-high that exceeds, say, the a Patek Calatrava (multi-fold I would add) or any of my three-hand watches. Principally because of the particular slate grey dial (which I cannot find in any/almost all slate grey dials in the market), the custom breguet numerals which the accentuate the classicism, the LF hands that makes it very distinctively LF, and finally the 40 mm case shape and 'bulb' crown -- this last facet of the watch is beautifully proportioned and I love the incredible elegance with which it sits on my wrist.

my 2 cents ! thanks for reading.

a truly beautiful piece..
I can imagine your hair could even stand on its ends, if you looked at the dial and movement long enough…..
I've seen excellent pics of a LF.

Although I do not own either a PP or a LF, I think I can understand ur feeling of the LF over the PP.
Perhaps the only niggling concern is servicing over a very long term period and to a much lesser extent, the subsequent price/value?

All those about to go into independent brands face this discussion, but there are ready solutions. this isn't my first independent, so that concern is more or less assuaged.

on value - all depends on the price u purchase at, and what exactly one is buying. great finished movements, if not purchased at an extravagant price, I think will stand the test of time.

... as it is a small independent brand that doesn't produce (for now at least) more than 100 pieces a year.

this is Mr Laurent Ferrier himself, formerly Technical Director of Patek...

which I had the pleasure of dining with in Singapore two months ago, along with the other independent grandmasters.

Laurent Ferrier as a brand is well known for the top-level finishing. I am looking very much forward to seeing the stuff they have in the immediate future.

To be precise, Au is symbol for gold in periodic table. 750 means 750/1000 or 75% or 18karat. That the colour is white makes it white gold.

Big congrats! Those gorgeous applied breguet numerals itself are worth the 6 months wait!

Reminds me of the PP 5196P too, which is one of my favourite calatrava. You should add one to accompany your LF!   :Laughing_on_floor:
