Title: Watch for Wife
Post by: iamyourfazaaa on October 31, 2013, 01:12:14 PM
Guys,

With Christmas coming up I am thinking of getting my wife a nice watch. Since I have little knowledge about ladies watches (all my knowledge is on men's timepieces ;D), can you guys give me some suggestions? Criteria is as follows:

Budget: RM10,000 - 15,000
Dial: White
Case: Round, SS or WG (if possible)
Movement: Automatic

Secondhand is fine.

Currently I am looking at boy sized Rolexes.

Thank you in advance.

I suggest Cartier Ballon Bleu 33mm/36mm in leather
If this is her first luxury piece...GO FOR ROLEXXXX!!!

RM15k will likely get you a pre-owned but newer models of the mid-size Rolex with plain dials ie. no diamonds, fluted WG bezel and steel jubilee bracelet. If white dial, either the Romans dial (no lume) or stick markers (usually got lume).

I bought my wife a Rolex Air King 34mm white dial, oyster perpetual with oyster bracelet at RM16K. Model number 114200. I know that this may be 1K over your budget, and it was a little over mine too. But the size, fit and classic looks of a Rolex is unbeatable. She is plenty happy with it and I hope that this helps narrow down your search a little. BTW, I bought it brand new and not used.

sorry threadstarter, tumpang for a while

anyone knows how much a new one costs? 29mm or 35mm?
http://www.rolex.com/watches/yacht-master/m168622-0004.html
FYI, my wife has a Tag AR 27mm, looks quite ok on the wrist, will 35mm be too... big?

not very familiar with Rolex movements, what's the difference between 2235 (yachtmaster/datejust) and 3130 (airking)?
their website didn't mention anything on the power reserve ???

i think women don't really care much about the movement & complication in the watch like men do , as long as it is a good brand with bling bling will do the job right.

A pre owned ladies DJ with big diamonds would be around your budget.

Go for a dark coloured dial which would really make the diamonds "pop" and ease to read time. Looks great both formal and smart casual.

31mm or 35mm depending on ones wrist size.. white dial all stainless steel..

They are plenty of choices I believe most of the gals care less on the horology value but rather on the aesthetic of the watches . Cartiers, rollies are nice and you have Chopard happy diamond , GP's cat's eyes . Having said that jaeger has a good number of nice watches for missus too , like the reverso with little diamonds or the new rendenvous if u prefer something different !

Spiderboy is right...
Most ladies do not care about horology pedigree when it comes to watches.
They like blingy watches...
But with a WIS husband, we would most probably scrutinize her choice and try to steer them towards the correct direction.
By that I mean to steer them towards watches that are more worth the money paid...
It will always end up a Rolex most of the time.
Got this for my 10th Anniversary for my wife.

(http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss179/hanz079/Rolex%20Lady%20Datejust%20178234/DSC04415_zps80e2cf0c.jpg) (http://s573.photobucket.com/user/hanz079/media/Rolex%20Lady%20Datejust%20178234/DSC04415_zps80e2cf0c.jpg.html)
Rolex Datejust 31mm Boysize (that's what it's called in the catalog) ref 178234

Also, there is a chance that after the 1st real watch... the wife will suddenly be interested in watches.
Upside is we can talk watches together sometimes.
Argue about what is hot or not.
Downside is she might have a more in depth look and ended up asking for something like this...

(http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss179/hanz079/JLC%20Event%20Sept%202013/null_zps97e76e30.jpg) (http://s573.photobucket.com/user/hanz079/media/JLC%20Event%20Sept%202013/null_zps97e76e30.jpg.html)

One word... Kantoi... :P

true... as a WIS husband most probably you'll find a balance between bling bling and technology

Mind PM me how much and some details on the DJ?

when a wife flashes a JLC or something of the similar level... it indirectly reflects well on the husband too, no? ;D

The datejust retails for RM23k+
The discounts you can get varies.
And if you don't mind preowned I am sure you can get it at 15k or a little more.
This datejust model is one step higher than the cheapest datejust.
The cheapest one is a model without the fluted white gold bezel.
Difference in retail I believe is 4k.
And for a 10th anniversary gift, I would have to bring my wifey to the AD while she makes here choice within the specified budget of course...
Being a watch that she chooses, she will enjoy it even more since she picked it.
Rather than me buying a LNIB or pre owned piece at a cheaper price while she yearned for something else right?
So, imho... sakit sekali kao kao better than sakit sikit berkali kali... hahahaha

All stainless steel datejust without white gold bezel without diamonds RRP should be 18k+
Can still nego mah... DJ not like sports model.
Bring cash maybe can push down sikit.
But imho, girls will want a Rolex with AT LEAST a fluted bezel. They just like the bling.
If can afford diamonds, so much so the better.

Like I said bro, sakit sekali kao kao better than sakit sikit berkali kali... hahaha
You get her a pure stainless steel, later she bored liao, pester you at least fluted bezel, you lose when you sell and need to bleed more when you buy.

went to Hour Glass at the Gardens just now... looked at the watches around 15k...
PAM005/380, no stock, almost a year already :o
Airking quite ok discount... below RM15k... forgot to look at the Ladies Perpetual :HammerHead:
Omega AT ladies is less than RM15k...
Showed me a few Cartier ladies around RM10k...

well... the sales lady was a bit stuck up... gave me a feeling that i cannot afford buying... maybe because of my Tag :'(

but discount is definitely better than Sincere...

Yup.... She dislikes the jubilee bracelet.

Why an oyster over the jubilee? She prefers it that way?

Don't worry.. give her some time. I'm sure she's saving the idea of a jubilee bracelet for a two-tone combo and the president bracelet for a solid gold piece.

Good luck!!

Oyster bracelet gives a 'rugged' and sort of 'sporty' look (Yachtmaster comes to mind  ;) ) whilst jubilee looks more elegant & classic!
Very nice diamond dial indeed...but i bet it goes very well with jubilee bracelet
The downside of Oyster bracelet, you can easily get hairline scratches especially the brushed part... :Blue:

Good one Chris! I should get this printed on a big banner/flyers and distribute it to all Rolex AD's! That is one great marketing strategy  ;D :Dancing_banana:

Good choice with the Rolex

I was in a similar predicament in Nov last year, trying to find a watch for my missus as a birthday gift. We looked at Rolexes, and the only one she kind of liked was the white gold DJ, index markers, on jubilee. There were a number of pre-owned one within budget, but no box of papers. Ended up with a two-tone:

I still want to get her the Rolex, and will be saving up for that day to come

Hey, this is plainly unfair to me. I recommended changing girlfriends in a foreign land and my post got deleted and I earned a stern warning from our beloved mods, and here Eric is telling people to change their wives and his post gets to stay. So unfair. The mods are cyber-bullying me.....

There's a quote, 'Diamonds are women's best friend'...
Now we can modify it as 'If diamond can be women's best friend, so does ROLEX'!  :Laughing_on_floor:

If man can change wives, women can get boyfriends too rite??  :Dancing_banana:

Ha ha, just try to Rhyme with Chris.

Warning!!  Changing wife is not like changing your Rolex, it is worse than trading a Tag (at least 50% off your value) :Laughing_on_floor:

Totally agree with the Rolex and datejusts are the good smart/ classy/ casual, in short good for all occasions!
Got one for my wifey and the effect extended to her family!
The "Crown" works all the time. :)
