Title: Watch collector
Post by: Christopher Julian on October 24, 2013, 03:04:35 PM
Hi just want to clarify with all MWF members. Am I consider a watch collector?. I look at my drawer and I have dozen of watches namely Casio, seiko, Titus, omega, ted baker, police etc.

Should start to go for quality (sophistication) instead of quantity.

'fashionist'  = 'lookist'  i guess this is the category we fall under  C.Julian.. at least for now..

'sophisticationist' = 'movementnist'  perhaps in time.....

I doubt I'll ever have dozens of watches. Wouldn't know when to wear which one. Given my small collection, I've been thinking to downsize to just 2. One for the day and one for night time.

Very unlikely as I was thinking the same thing... but with 2... the biggest question is always "which 2"

As a beginner to watches, just wanted to know more. What I learned now is not quantity but quality. Then will be easier. I will get myself a Patek this weekend and share with the forum soon. Thanks for the informative and helpful comments

Friend, i really admire ur enthusiasm. If u have just started with this watch fever and yet know how to ask such question to urself, then good for u.

As for me, a much simple minded guy, i just get the watch that i like without thinking too much (exclude budget issue of course!). Yes I have some watches but i don't know, or think that i am a collector, coz i sometime bought some and choose to wear them to match my outfit, also i don't really concern about their movements and functions which made me sophisticated as some pointed out... so i guess for me it's still a long way to learn and improvise.

Fantastic, we r all awaiting for the pictures then.

Well , collectors or not is entirely judged by people in this forum, you should be the one who know most .There is nothing wrong with casios, citizens and ect. As long as you wear them happily and you keep them happily , I believe that's a collector in my definition .:)  Collector or not , be proud on what you like and not what to impress forum member !

For me... I have always thought that I will need 3 watches. Tops.

1. Tough daily work watch
2. Nice dress watch
3. Sporty weekend watch

Which Patek?

And if from the KLCC boutique, please ask if they have the Calatrava 5119 model in stock? Would love to look at it.

Well, you may be a watch hoarder instead of a collector. There is a difference; some may argue it's a subtle difference, others not so much.

Nothing to laugh on my Casio and nothing to impress with PP. As a beginner, really appreciate logical and positive comments from member. MWF is about sharing our love for watches to others

Did research and I think my first Patek will be a Nautilus since I don't have a sport watch.

You might want to consider the AP Royal Oak as well since the Nautilus appeals to you.

Good recommendation for AP royal oak. I started to pay attention to Fine watches like AP and now Breguet

For sport watch, consider the AP ROO models. Nautilus might not be that "tough" to fall in the sport watch category. For Patek, I still think the Calatrava is the best.

That is true. AP ROO is goddam sporty and is HUGE!  Nautilus is a more subtle "Sporty" dress watch.  if for my not-so-big wrist i would go for the Nautilus.

Get them both. In fact, get all 3, Nautilus, RO, and ROO. They are all very different and each provides distinctive feel.

There are doubts that Genta was actually involved in the design of the VC222 that morphed into the VC Overseas of today. Some sources believe that it was Hysek who designed the VC and not Genta.
