Dear all:
I've decided to stretch my Budget 2013 further to get a non-black dial non-bracelet watch, I've shortlisted to the 2:-
- JLC Amvox 1 Titanium
- IWC Portuguese 7 Days
I need some advises from all the sifus in MWF, in terms of maintenance cost and any other problems regarding these 2 watches before I pull the trigger.
Thank you
Regards
Leon

I'll choose the JLC. Better value in my opinion, aesthetically more composed and the alarm complication is simply splendid, as it actually rings, not buzz like many others.

Thanks for the opinion.
I love the 'stealth' look on the Amvox but I can't resist the classic look of the Port as well.
Any ideas on how's the maintenance cost for JLC in typical?

According to this thread,

It cost about the same as to tow an Audi from Ipoh to KL. ;D ;D
Joking aside, check this post by the same author.

Good luck.

hah, looks like a good indication of what to expect for service the watch, but sure it depends on the watch and complication as well.
Thanks for the link by the way

FYI I know of 2 MWF members who paid > RM 10K to service their APs..
so take this into perspective..

Are these 2 watches fall under the same category (in terms of services cost) of their APs? :o :o
then i will consider twice

We can't compare pricing of watches and likewise servicing costs between watches from the trinity and 'other' watches altho watches from AHCIs, ALS or other high horology manufactures may sometimes be as high or even higher than those from the trinity. It also depends on the type of complication involved.
My advise is if you are worried, call up the AD of these 2 brands to enquire for a general routine service fee and compare, otherwise there is no concrete answer in sight.

good suggestion, thanks a lot, will give them a call later.

From my own experience, rule of thumb is 10% of the retail price is usually the service cost.
-
Thanks Hanz for the rule of thumb
Received feedbacks from some of the owners of the Amvox 1 in this forum, sounds all positive so far
Enrolling myself into the JLC club soon? lets pray hard...... :Praying: :Praying:

I like this version of the british racing green too (with brown leather strap), though I wouldn't mind the Amvox 1 Ti if a nice one comes along.

oh oh..our tastes are far too similar and now we r both looking for the same Amvox 1 Ti... ;D

I find this a very peculiar comparison between the 2. One is a very sporty and desirable sport watch(JLC) and the other, a rather elegant and versatile watch (IWC).
I hope your decision is driven by how it feels when they sit on your wrist and not by the maintenance costs. Both are manufacturer's calibre and are comparable when there's a need for full service.
In any case, can't go wrong with either one of them. However, I'd personally settle for a master control Memovox instead, if JLC is my path, as something that can stand the test of time. The Amvox 1 is easily, how should I say,... forgettable... sorry, just my 2 cents...

Is might sounds perculiar, but my reasons of shortlisted these 2 watches are actually very simple.
The criteria are: A slightly dressy, non-black dial, non-bracelet, with date function, other complications are bonus watch only.
For me, both watches are good for formal and casual conditions but definitely not for sports, despite AMVOX is intended to be a sports watch (but only 50m water resistance). Due to the titanium case and dial colour of the AMVOX, the whole watch looks cleaner and 'stealth' enough to be dressy IMO. Other AMVOX variants are very sporty.
