My wifey has been bugging me with these few questions for the past month or so. Why spend so much time reading up on watches, why spend so much on watches and why so many watches?
Have not thought about it and was not able to give her a satisfactory answer until tonight. We were preparing for a night out and as usual, took me five minutes to get ready. While my other half was still at it.
Waited five mins, ten mins and still she wasn't down. Finally I went up and lord behold, she was still selecting which ladies bag to use.
Being cheeky, I took this opportunity to ask her back why spend so much time thinking on which bag to use. Why spend so much on bags and why so many bags.

With some women the same question can be asked of shoes.
Like for example, Imelda Marcos and her 3000 pair collection, some just as expensive as watches.

Women, they like to criticize men lah... But they also have their own quirks and hobbies that they have blind spot to.

Haha.. you said it! :thumbsup: When a woman is not happy, the same would be the man in the night.. I guess, in that case we still have our watches to play with.

Every man has a vice. Watches are the safest. I haven't heard of anyone dying because of this hobby.

You are lucky that you married a philosopher wife. Just tell her:
- Most watch and clock collectors are men. And there is a good explanation....
- You see, men shoulder heavy responsibilities in this uncertain and ugly world and we are not permitted to complain about it or nag day and night to release the pressure. It is considered unmanly to even draw a long face after a tough day at work. We are required to look cool and composed at all times.
- Hence, from time to time we need to find the opportunity to escape to an alternate universe where all things are orderly, certain and of course beautiful, pleasing to our eyes. In this alternate universe, we like mingling with people (but not the rude and obnoxious ones of course ;) ;)) who share the same desire.
- And guess what?? Watches and clocks serve those purposes. :thumbsup: :thumbsup: The hands almost always move in one fixed direction at a definite rate. Watches and clocks reassures us that there is an alternate universe where all things are certain, orderly, and predictable.
- That's why we get upset if any of our watches is not working properly. We are upset (partly) because the expected orderliness and certainty are compromised. We are upset because we feel our certain and orderly alternate universe can break down and/or has broken down.
- Of course, there are exceptions to the above all around. Some collect watches to be fashionable. Some buy watches to show off to their peers. Some buy and buy to keep up with the rest.

We have the same problem... so the trick is to get really large watches that she cannot wear.. ::)

That is quite lovely and I hope my wife doesn't see this. I've managed to avoid Omega boutiques several times in KL. Everytime she says "oh look at that Omega shop.." I usually reply.. "Hey.. let's check out that food place"..
