No offense but when CK showed me the pics i thought it was an early Aprils fools joke.
But then i saw official press release and its true!
What are your thoughts on this?
Will it fly off the shelf like the PAM360?
When will yours arrive Hobbit? :P
Pics from Purist forum.

Actually the small hand does have the same lume colour, just looks different because the hand is white and not black like the hour and minute hands

Personally I like the watch, not the price. I think it is nice that Panerai has decided to 'reward' its fans by producing the watch and did it in such a way that it it not related to any fan base forum, least it is accused of favouritism or such. I think Panerai is learning. It is a nice follow up to the PAM000390 SE of 2,000 pieces and the PAM000372. It would be great if the numbers were higher, instead of 500 pieces, but at the asking price, close to RM45,000, I guess even Panerai realise it is not a watch for the masses. Who knows, maybe one day they will produce one at a lower price point.
As for me, I do not and never considered myself a Paneristi. I like their watches and that is just it. So I doubt I will ever buy the PAM000352, nice as it is.
Oh, as for will it fly off the shelves like the PAM000360? I don't think so. Price is a big factor.....
-
Well, judging from the "home" forum... it seems to be received rather negatively.
But... I think it's an interesting release.
At that price, Hobbit is right in saying this is not a watch for the masses...
Not related to the fan base forum yes... they used the term Paneristi and omitted the .com... so this clearly shows that this release is not affiliated with the forum and distribution will not be in the hands of the usual few...
Panerai is learning? Maybe...
But Panerai being Panerai... Boutiques will still release this watch to the selected few... which is like taking one step forward and two steps back...
With enough drumming up of artificial demand... this watch "could" be a success... who knows?
-
Ok, I am confused...
What is Paneristi ? When i google `Paneristi', the first hit is the forum with that name.
So is Paneristi a phrase that's associated with that forum?

At the end of the day, Panerai is a business. It will release what it thinks will bring in the money. Look at some of the past release... not really my cup of tea or even many who collect the watches, but there it is.
As for the forum and its negative responses, well..... I guess it was consulted at the planning stages, they were shown a couple of pictures, drawings or what ever it was. They indicated what they liked and Panerai made a watch. Was it the one they chose, who knows. Did Panerai chose the word Paneristi? Yes they did. Someone must be kicking themselves for not trademarking the word, but that is another story. Panerai chose to distribute the watch themselves, perhaps after the PAM000360 issue. Learning I guess.
Is the watch cheesy? Yes, to me anyway. But then I don't wear my watch the other way around. So, it does not matter to me. I still like the watch. I have to say one thing though, it is I believe the only brand thus far to have issued a watch to thank its 'loyal' base of customers. Maybe could have been done in a better way, but what do I know.
As for Panerai marketing practices? Well I don't agree with it, but I guess it knows more then I do.

What is Paneristi ? When i google `Paneristi', the first hit is the forum with that name.
So is Paneristi a phrase that's associated with that forum?
A name chosen to describe Panerai collectors? Origin of the word...
Why Paneristi?
A while ago on the TimeZone bulletin board the question was raised of "what should Panerai enthusiasts be called?". The initial suggestion was that "The Panerai Brotherhood" sounded fairly apt, but to a lot of people this name brought forth images of spooky guys in white cloaks.
Hans Zbinden then suggested that since Ferrari enthusiasts in Italy were called "Ferraristi", why not "Paneristi"? After this the name stuck in my head, and the result is now this web site.
-
No trademark violation?
-
I actually love the design of Panerais. However, it is releases like these that puts me off from acquiring one. Where is the subtlety?...surely a watch that would only appeal to fanboys.

So when Panerai release this watch, with an engraving that says Panerisiti forever, its highlighting the followers/bonding/friendship/ownership of this brand by the mass..the Paneristi...
So now comes to main question...why would some members of a forum with the same name, (furthermore often referred to as THE forum for all thing Panerai) get upset?
-
No trademark violation?
I don't think the word "Paneristi" is trademarked...
But you know lah in the legal world... Paneristi.com is welcomed to sue, since most of it's higher regarded members are lawyers... they could even do it "pro-bono"?
-
So if and if Rolex release a GMT model that says `MWF forever'..should we saman or we suka? ;D
or saman dulu tapi belakang suka suka..hehehe
-

Why let one watch prevent you from enjoying the other watches in the collection? It is a watch designed for the fan boys, don't get that.

Good question, but one that sadly lacks an answer. Who knows. Perhaps they really don't like the watch, perhaps like the Malay saying goes, Ada udang di sebalik mee......

so a watch that's potentially designed and released for fanboys is now in danger of being rejected by the fanboys? Intriguing...

Looks like it. Perhaps for the better. Who knows. Perhaps what Panerai is doing is to address the larger base of customers or potential customers and not just the forum? Perhaps Panerai is doing to the forum what it did to its network of AD when it introduced its boutiques? Perhaps its the other way around, the forum expressing its displeasure that it was taken out of the planning, and distribution process?

Yeah... That might be it.
Some FB posts are surfacing about mods at the forum were not consulted on the design, or was consulted but OP did not listen.
Most of all would be a having watch named "Paneristi" but the home forum have no say in the distribution....
Why is it important to be involved in the distribution? Well...
-
To me it is very simple, if you like the watch and can afford it, buy it. If not, don't. You only have to satisfy yourself and no one else. If you are buying to be part of a group, to be with the in crowd (but don't really like the watch), then you are going about it wrong.
If you don't like the watch because it is ugly, cheesy, etc, then so be it. But don't hate the watch because it was design for its fans or fanboys or followers or whatever you want to call them. Don't hate the watch because you were not involved in the design of the watch, or what ever the supply chain process that you were not involve with.
At the end of the day, I give it to Panerai for having the balls to do this.

I thought the Ferrari dudes were called Tifosi?
Well thats what i hear always from F1 broadcast.

Tifosi is for the Ferrari F1 team supporters...
Ferrari road car enthusiasts are called Ferraristi.
Alfa Romeo enthusiasts are called Alfisti.
Must be an Italian thing.

I could be wrong but Ferraristi lives for the car, the history, the drama, the romance... and on Sunday, the Tifosi in them screams for the Scuderia Ferrari Formula One cars to win.....

If I had €9,2000 to burn and (more importantly) the opportunity to handle and get it, why not?
 :Dancing_banana: :Jumping:
-
I think there are a lot of nicer watches out there to throw €9,200 at. This watch and the price tag is obviously aimed at a very small segment of ______ (see back engraving).

Not just one watch, the Brooklyn bridge edition with the unfinished movement takes the cake for one of the worst horological "crime".

It is indeed a steep slope for Panerai when it comes to making mistakes. The funny thing is, after all the brouhaha, not many actually took up the offer by Panerai (half hearted at that) to have the movement changed. And I will not be surprised that one day in the future, it may end up being a sought after model....

Maybe Patek should learn from Panerai and leave some movements unfinished to one day become highly sought after at an auction. Heck, maybe all watch manufacturers should start doing it too. ::) What is the world coming to?

Yeah, what is the world coming to? Imagine paying extra for watches with defective dials..... ::)

With such a price tag one can buy a Daytona instead. There is no such thing as forever, so cheesy.
