Has anyone here been to Gunung Lang, near Ipoh?
Can anyone suggest nice/good hotel for 100.00 in Ipoh?
-
Hi 7thfort,
Are you visiting the park or asking for directions?
There are plenty of hotels (budget) for that price range.
The better question is where is your preferred location?
Take care, Ciao!

Thanks Bryan, actually visiting the park. What is there and is it worth the time?
Found a hotel call "Station 18". Internet pics and comments looks good.

Thanks Enkidu. Wife has phobia on caves and the likes.

OK, next on the line is where to get good and delicious food. Please give your suggestions.

Yes, saw it on the web. Nice! Thanks.

Hi 7thfort,
Firstly, Kek Look Tong is on the other side of town.
Enkidu may need to get his gps re-calibrated. ;)
However, Ipoh is famous for its Sam Poh Tong, Perak Tong and sampah tongs ;D
I've had friends who stayed at Hotel Station 18 & they're satisfied with it.
Generally, there's quite a bit of good comments about the hotel.
Only thing is that it's not exactly in the center of town, so unless you have a car, getting to other places might be troublesome.
Having said that, the hotel does have a couple of cars (with drivers, I was told) to ferry guests to places of interest - you pay for it of course!
Now for the park.
It's a simple recreational area across a small lake with some playground stuffs, a couple of caged birds & animals and some structures like a tower and walking bridges, with the hill as background.
You have to take a boat ride to get across - piece of advice: get the office tel number before you cross becos there's no way to call the boatman in case you need to leave earlier than the appointed time for the return trip.
I've been there a couple of times & it's a nice place to take the kids to run around a bit but that's about it.
If you are a nature lover or a shutterbug, you might like the place.
Unfortunately, maintenance is a bad word with our council workers so don't expect too much.
Anyway, hope you & your lady have fun.
Take care, Ciao!

May I suggest you check out Motormouth and/or Ipoh Echo for suggestions.
Have fun & enjoy!

Thanks Bryan, for all the information and pointers. Most useful, to say the least. You seem to have an intimate "ins and outs" of Ipoh. I take it you are a Ipoh nang.

Yup! 100% Ipoh-mali! :Jumping:
Just give a shout if you need any assist when you're in town.
Take care, Ciao!

No wonder you know the whereabouts of all the caves :D :D :D. Free to show me the best Ipoh hor-fun shop next time I am there?? ;D

Still in Ipoh bro? Maybe can meet up the next time I am back

Guys,
I'll be happy to yum-cha with y'all whenever any of you are in Ipoh.
Do let me know in advance becos I travel quite a bit for my bizz.
Terrence2 is also Ipoh-mali, if I remember correctly.
Enkidu,
Ipoh hor fun is reputed to be the smoothest & the best - Penang lang will flame me now! - in the country.
There's Kai-si hor fun, Ngau-lam hor fun, Curry-liew hor fun, etc.
What your poison, my friend? :D
Take care, Ciao!

Hi Bryan,
Personally I prefer Ipoh's Hor Fun to Penang's.
But it comes to Bak Kut Teh, the best is in Klang.

Was at Ipoh last weekend - Sat/Sun. Traffic going up North was heavy and the rain made it worse. Left Klang at 2 pm and only arrived at Ipoh at 5.15 pm.
Tried the Lou Wong Tauge Ayam Kuetiaw. The chicken n rice, well, nothing great. The tauge, fish ball, meat ball & kuetiaw were great. Parking was difficult due to crowd and there are some jaga kereta guys collecting money.
For dessert, went to Tong Sui Kai Night Stall. Plenty of places to park and no pesky jaga kereta guys. Reasonable prices and many choices.
Gunung Lang, nice quiet place. Arrived there on a Sunday at 10 am, so not many people. Took the boat ride across the lake to the park. RM1.50 for senior citizen. Walk among the shady trees, cool weather (still early), but the park was "run down". Feed some fishes near the jetty, some were huge.
Lunch at the hawker stalls at the football stadium. Good and reasonable price. Parking can be difficult due to limited parking lots.
Can't leave Ipoh sampling the white coffee. Had a few cups.
Ipoh's food still reasonably priced, as compared to say Malacca or JB or Penang. Will be back.
Left at 2 pm and back to Klang at 4 pm.

Went there last year with the wife for a quick visit and checked out some of the new houses nearby. Thought of retiring graciously and quietly in a serene and natural environment. I must say the scenery is breathtaking and it's a great place to go to escape the city. However, it's pitifully ill-managed and when you view the huge tourist potential it has and it's not realizing it due to the management there it's heartbreaking :-[
